Tam n pups winter trip 2022

Only on surface contact like head to panel. A self strapper will be biting into raw aluminium & the hole will just corrode away.
Then the aluminium isn't anodised just like when you drill your own holes in anodised aluminium you remove the protection the strips on the side of the van would have been pre drilled then anodised.

Sides of vans are not anodised they pre coated with a paint finish.

If the aluminium is anodised which most is on motorhomes etc you will be okay using stainless steel fittings.
It was on a car I built Dave so nowt to do with Motorhomes

Yep he's literally just left.

They're off to Falkirk wheel for the night I think
Good news Tam, you must be pleased to say farewell to the Euromobil. Albeit with a tinge of sadness perhaps, after the adventures it's taken you and the dogs on. (y)

I am yeah , I liked the space in the van for living in but in truth I never took to it for travelling in..and whilst it had all the solar etc it still felt I had to keep an eye on useage in winter months.

I think I'd prefer a 3 way fridge. Lithium batteries and a more powerful b2b .

So I won't miss it .

Got the feeling that in spite of the space and comfort, you felt it was overdue to move it on. And now you've finally done it after a few false starts. :giggle:

Aye I'm just glad that's both of them gone. Like mum says that's nearly 3 months of advertising, viewings , folk saying their buying etc. Then taking deposits and waiting weeks for collection. It's been stressful. So now it's just a case of working away on the new one getting it ready and picking up a cheapish caravan.

Why tam..? I’m thinking of pulling my big 3 way out and putting a 12v compressor in… was yours a 12v or 230..?
Gosh, you're not keen on having a 3-way and prefer a 12v compressor.

I've never had a compressor fridge in a van, but always considered being able to run on gas really handy when off-grid. And I'd be a bit concerned a compressor would place too much load on the habitation battery(s). But what do I know...

Mine was a 240v but even with 1100w solar and 700ah batteries , it would only last 3 or 4 days off grid in winter time. The fridge used a lot of power.

Here’s one Tam, if your numbers come up.

Yep that's why I find a lot of the vans advertised as fully off grid etc a joke when they only have 3 or 400 watt solar etc.

Mine was Great for about 7 or 8 months of the year. But in Ireland last October November I struggled . Was fine in Spain from January onwards.

I'd rather cover all bases. So with the Mobilvetta I'd like to have 5/600w solar , lithium. 60amp b2b , diesel heater, 3 way fridge , and that should be sufficient all year round I hope.

🤔 I have 400w and 2 gels, I thought that would be well enough… considering I’ll be in Spain or Morocco.

I was going to get one of these…🤷🏼‍♂️

If you're somewhere sunny over the winter months then it might be OK.

But I'd research it well.

My fridge ran of the 400ah bank but used 40-50ah a day . Only 200ah useable on lead acid so would only do 4/5days if not driving. I never let it get that low as constantly worried about damaging the batteries if it did.

Wissel runs a 240v fridge in his van but you'd have to ask him what solar and batteries he has. But he also reports only 10 months or so fully offgrid.

You're not a fulltimer though so depending where you are it could be different

I need to unscrew that solar panel to have a look underneath to see if it says what wattage it is , I'm thinking at least 175w but possibly 200w . It's been on there a long time and the brackets still seem well stuck down at least. I reckon I can put one the same size on the other side of the roof hatch and then a 3rd panel behind them.

Not sure how I'm gonna fit a reverse camera though with the bathroom being on the rear wall. Ideally I'd like 2 camera's one for rear view and one facing down for reversing.

Rear camera, easy…..if you’re running cables on the roof anyway for solar surely just add a bit of trunking for the rear camera(s) and incorporate into the solar run into the van 👍😁

Aye I considered that. I'd still have to bolt cameras through rear wall in to bathroom though.

I would have thought more like 100watt.
Nah ,
If you look at the roof of the euramobil. The panel top left was 150w. The one middle is 350w the other 6 were 100w panels . The one on the mobilvetta is bigger than the 150w one by one row of squares length wise

Don't do it ... You'll regret it. We always struggled even in Spain with a lot of sun and driving plus they can be noisy as we found, it was one of the reasons we changed our last Globecar.

You are spot on even though you don't think you know much. 😄

At least with a 3-way if one power source plays up you've got the option to use another, with a compressor one it's all or nothing.

Tam, the rear view camera on my van can also be used for a downwards view by simply pressing a button, 1 camera is all you need surely.
