Tam n pups winter trip 2022

Aye , I hate waiting for things and I want parked up in Spain before it gets dark . Arrived at port at 09.45 , only just got on ferry and they still loading lorries. Whole day wasted for a 90 minute crossing

Passport checked 4 different times, tickets checked 3 times , police looked in van twice , I mean cmon , none of that changes while you're in the port surely , too much time on their hands
Quicker than Dover then....🤣

Safe travels

Cheers🍻

How many Custom checks & everything good with the dogs?
In Spain just one passport check and straight out . Nothing checked or asked for regarding dogs

I think you're right on both counts!

I'm gonna rant this morning about insurance companies and their automatic renewal nonsense .

So I obviously haven't received letters as I'm out the country , but in this digital age I've also received no emails from either safeguard nor Hastings direct who my last car was insured with.

So this morning I was booking my return ferry from dieppe ( who've also caused issues ) and as a result I went on my online banking this morning to discover safeguard have automatically taken nearly 600 quid from my account and Hastings have taken 250

So I'm now overdrawn and my ferry booking was rejected as a result

Both insurance companies closed on a Saturday.

I no longer have the car and didn't want insurance renewed and as this camper will be sold in the next month or so and I might not use safeguard for the merc I didn't want that renewed either.

Now there's a good chance they've sent letters but this automatically renewing bollocks is out of order and I never asked or gave permission for them to do that.

Had to transfer funds to sort out my ferry booking which I've now done but I couldn't get the 20th of April I needed so I'm going to be 12 hours over my shengen time ...can't be helped

Yes it’s a right con this automatic renewing malarkey, even when Caz told them she didn’t want to renew they took the money, she had to go through Nationwide to get it back into her account.

As soon as I've paid any annual insurance premium I contact (email, written record) them to state that they do not have permission to auto renew... even if I've ticked their box to opt out.
Apparently it's a government idea to stop drivers being uninsured.

Most do that now, you have to opt out rather than in nowadays, it'll be in the policy or covering letter etc that this is how they do it unless you specifically tell them otherwise. I had it with one of my insurers and played merry hell as I'd messaged them to tell them not to do it.

In fairness, it's usually pretty up front in the renewal invitation which usually comes out well in advance of the renewal date.

Could be the next PPI that was all about defaulting people in to things.
Not really, if not wanted and you have made separate provision you can usually get it all refunded.

Thats the point , the car insurance one there was no renewal invitation.

The safeguard one the invitation arrived on the 6th posted on the 1st and payment taken on the 6th....renewal due on the 12th

So if it's out on 12th what were you planning on doing?

I start trawling through insurance quotes around 23 days before renewal so have time to sort it and get the best price.

Here in spain it is a legal requirement. the only way to cancel is to show the paperwork that you have either sold the vehicle or the paperwork to show it has been scrapped. I would like to change my renewal date from july ,when I am always away to late in the year but it is impossible.
You also can't insure with another provider at a differnt time of the year with a view to cancelling the original because it shows as " vehicle already insured" so no one will do it..

the only guaranteed way i have found to stop the auto renewal is to inform the agent/broker then cancel the direct debit.& that is for any type of insurance.

Here in spain you cannot obtain the renewal amount until 4 weeks before the renewal date . There is no sending out of renewal quotes as they have a captured market:giggle: If you wish to cancel* & go elsewhere it is allowed as long as you inform your current insurer 1 month before renewal.🤷‍♂️
Spotted it? yes you have to cancel before the date they can tell you the renewal price.
* having done this in the past, & cancelled the dd, it is not uncommon for them to contact you regarding the fact that you haven't renewed & also to become quite abusive. especially when the broker/agent hasn't told them.

**I did mention some years back that once the UK introduced auto renewal you could expect the rest to follow.

Apologies for taking thread off track

You're not in Morocco with no phone except WhatsApp 😁 I planned to try saga etc once back in Spain. The 12th is a week away.

Alternatively I'd put the insurance on monthly payments till I sold it so I wasn't paying out 600 quid in one go
