Tam n pups winter trip 2022

Agree about the dogs.
We stopped for lunch yesterday in the mountains by a river.
4 dead dogs in the bed of the river.
All killed and throw in in the flood I assume.
This is the culture here, some peoples way of life.
All countries have their own beliefs.
You can’t by pork/ bacon here.
Yet in some countries you can eat a dog.
I am no judge, each to their own.
I am a great believer in Karma, so try to help the best I can, in the belief it will come back.

As for paying too much for items, I find we are too polite.
I for one just pay up.
Saying that I did once refuse, left the items that I had hoped to purchase, and walked away. ( Spanish market)
Still remember doing it!
Should remember that lesson as I still just pay, then bitch about it after.
Yes really I should have just walked out when he said the price ...but I was caught off guard and I just paid it. Its the last time I buy anything here though without asking the price first.

Tam found a dead dog on a beach in Ireland. I think it had been tied up so it would drown when the tide came in. I can still see that image.

and you can stick Benidorm up your jacksie:ROFLMAO:
Look the simple answer is you should NEVER let someone else's experience of a place stop you from going. I haven't written the country off yet. There's bits I've enjoyed so far and bits I've found different than I expected. But it won't put me off continuing to explore here and other places. Can't confirm either way yet whether it's a country I will come back to or not as I've not done enough of it and when shit things happen it does dampen your mood.

But that's the joys of travel and exploring new territory...

Trust me, it has happened to all of us. They catch you off guard.

Like I said it's just the dog situation. Morocco is a very beautiful country. My Niece was recently there and the photos she sent over were just so gorgeous. BUT she did stay on a 5 star resort :giggle: (y)

We once got stung by a Dutch woman selling cheese at the market in Sarlat, I nearly fainted at the price 😅

Never just ask for cheese on a French market, make sure you know how much your actual piece is first.

Thing with these french cheese stalls the price can be anything, by the kg, by the half kg, by the gram or by the piece or by whatever they can think of to get your money.
Last October at a French Market cheese €65/kg, our friends bought a small slice enough for two mouthfuls €15.

Nowt to do with your experience why I won't be travelling to Morocco. I said before you even went there that it is not for me. Unless I gets to stay in a 5 star resort where I am shielded:winky:

I got seriously conned on cheese at a French Market. Only once though I buy mine in the supermarket with marked prices.
That's the shitty thing , because at home I'm a supermarket buyer but I decided that I was going to try and support the smaller businesses etc , I've been making a point of buying my fruit , veg and bread etc from roadside sellers. ...I should have waited and done that with the spices. I never planned to buy spices there today , I was looking at other things in the shop and just noticed he had the ras el hanout labelled , I thought that was easier than me having to show the name on my phone like I did last time I bought it , guy spoke English so nice and easy I thought.

And then he took the piss with the price. It should really have cost between 26 and 50dh max for the 3 spices i bought going by what I paid for the last lot I bought..

As I said though it will only happen the once.

And yet you go to some of the street sellers and they are as honest as they come. Several times now I've just put my hand out with coins not having a clue how much they had said and they've taken only what it cost.

I bought 4 tomatoes , 4 carrots , 2 large peppers and a Jesus loaf earlier from a stall along the road. The whole lot cost 11dh 50

That's about 90p

So like benidorm then lol.

That's just not my type of travel. I like to see the bits away from the tourist spots too. It just means sometimes it isn't as pleasant. I've only been here 2 weeks though, in truth it's felt longer , not sure if that's a good sign or not , but I'm still looking forward to exploring inland , the desert areas etc . I'm also hoping to find places I can stay easier that isn't campsites or guardian parking as that's a big thing for me , if I can't then that will likely be the deciding factor for me whether I'll return or not. Greece is still by far my favourite country for travelling in and I've yet to explore Turkey.

We have only made one trip to Marocco flew to Marrekech. I really couldn't handle people constantly latching onto you to be be your guide and them demarding money. Got fed that you can't buy anything without haggling. I think India is easier but Maroccan drivers are much better.

The highlight of the trip was when we left most of our stuff at the hotel and hired a car for a couple of days, driving over the Atlas mountains to the Sub Shara. Got interesting started snowing in the mountains, getting dark and fuel tank almost empty. Found a smashing guest house in the desert run by a couple of brothers in the middle of nowhere. Generator went off at 9pm you had a candle for a bedside lamp.

Mi would love to go back in the Motorhome I'm not very keen.

I was joking I HATE 5 star resorts and hotels which is why we have a MH :ROFLMAO:

Yeah buying anything other than food haggling is normal. But foodstuff you should be able to buy without haggling.

Everything else is open to negotiation.

I've not had any bother with guides since assilah ...but I have had the dogs with me which I think puts them off thankfully. I have however been offered drugs on a daily basis lol

I’ve not been offered any drugs yet!
But it could be the wife keeping them away 😀

That's exactly how I felt in Jamaica and Thailand but the Indians have a certain amount of self respect I found them to be very friendly and helpful and very insulted if you offered them any money for their help or guidance. Except for the thieves whose hands are all over you at markets etc.

Thailand is not too bad but my youngest daughter lives there.

In Jamaica you get offered Ganja all the time!! "Hey lady, ya wan some of me Ganja, Just a few dollars and it yours" and the same old "hey English, come talk to me I have something to show you" always said in fun and gesture never aggressive though.

In Morocco it seems you have 2 types of people , those very honest who would do anything to help, and those who would scam, Rob and deceive. The problem is it is very difficult to tell which is which.

I've learned quickly that NO ONE just wants to make conversation here , it's only a matter of time before they try to sell you something or just ask for money. I've been caught out a few times.

It is their culture and tourists stick out here more than anywhere else.

I must admit your honest travel information is not endearing Morocco to me.
I'm sorry that's the case

Again as I said to someone else though it is only my experiences, others have different views of it so don't go on just mine. I've not travelled out of Europe before so it is very different for me , and I think from other people's blogs on Morocco or things I've heard and read I expected it to be different, I'd been led to believe it was vanlife heaven over here , parking was easy and everything was very cheap .

I've not found that , and I find it a hard country to relax in and finding peace and quiet is nigh on impossible

Yeah me too , it's not one thing or the other, I try to like wherever we go, but even if your experience wasn't what it is, the whole thing would get me down, is the permanent dogs, beggers, haggling, and being pestered all the time worth what's there much different than Spain or Portugal.
Just asking not knocking.

I am with you on the parking up and then being able to relax.
We never usually use a site for overnight , but this trip to Morocco we have been on paid sites for 21 nights out of 39 so far.
This does include 8 nights by the body repair garage (free) and 2 nights on the N12 (free) waiting for the river to subside.
But if you usually go onto campsites, it’s cheap here.
