Tam n pups winter trip 2022

My mate's sister had a Honda Buzz, think it had a spring loaded, ratcheting kick start ?
The local garage wouldn't let her fill up as sometimes the old mechanical pump wouldn't start to register the fuel before the tank was topped up !
I can well believe that! Yep, ratchet kick start.

Those are sought after these days by vanlifers. Lightweight and Easy to chuck in a van .

You'd be better off chucking it in a skip. Dreadful bloody thing, even by moped standards. It only had 1 gear - most other twist'n'go mopeds had 2 - presumably to make it cheaper. That meant the single gear was so high that setting off was a "leisurely" affair, but so low that 25mph was the top speed. Steep hills were a no-no as well, it would just get slower and slower then eventually grind to a halt.

Still, I'd progressed to a VFR750 within 3 years via other "proper" bikes, so it wasn't all bad. I've still got the VFR now!

Really? Buy this one for £2.5k and enjoy the extra gear .... :ROFLMAO:

Wow, £2450 for an extra gear!

That must be a later one. I can assure you my crap one had 1 gear only!

Ahh, someone has bothered to do a Wikipedia page! The luxury of 2 gears arrived on the NC50 in 1982

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_Express

I saw one identical to mine go through on the "Bangers'n'Cash" auction programme a while ago for £500, I did wonder who in their right mind would pay £500 for one, let alone £2500! A bus pass would give you more street cred.

I had a lovely blue Ford Sierra, I asked a stunning beautiful woman out loads fancied her and she said yes, first date went for a drive and I was showing off, too fast around a corner and over the other side of the road hit another car head on.

If I hadn’t we would have gone right into the water at Fairburn Ings.

No injuries but Sierra a write off.

I never saw her again😭

I used to talk to myself a lot afterwards for years” You total dickhead Paul, why did you do it, why did it have to be on the first date, you idiot, you fool”
Stop beating yourself up about it !! think about it. As soon as the car was gone so was she. The word shallow comes to mind:giggle:

I had a DT50 and an DT80LC
Fell over in the back of the van bringing it back from the shop and smashed the leavers off it before i'd even driven it

Ooo, flash. I "progressed" from the Express Deluxe to a CB125T SuperDream, with a mighty 12hp of twin cylinder power, the most you could have on L plates. The lad I bought it off had overtightened the spark plugs and stripped the threads, so I pushed it several miles home, stripped the engine down, got the heads helicoiled and got it all back together again just in time for my 17th birthday.

The bikes got better after that! :giggle:

Crap 1st vehicles?

Age 16, a Honda Express Deluxe moped. I should have sued Honda, it wasn't "Express" and it certainly wasn't "Deluxe". I couldn't afford a Fizzy or a DT50 :( 25mph flat out, 30 only achievable with gravitational assistance.

Still, it was £50 and I sold it a year later for - £50! If the tank was really empty I could get £1 worth of petrol in it! I took the basket off the front at least........

I had that bike when I lived in Dunfermline back in the early '80s. It was stolen and written off by some local youth.

John had a VFR750 when we met lovely bike but i felt like a praying mantis sat on the back, travelled to devon to see my son, took me ages to straighten my leg to get off when we stopped at the services. He bought a BMW and sold the VFR to his boss, when he was selling it john bought it back, he had the 2 bikes for a while, sold the VFR to his brother, then bought it back, then brother bought it again, he sold it to someone else for more than john would give him. Was a lovely bike.

I've got a R1200GS BMW now as well, and I thought my better half would love being on the back of that - loads of room. Nope - because it's more upright she keeps nutting the back of my helmet, even if I ride like a saint. She much prefers the old VFR 🤷‍♂️

I've still got the VFR for sentimental reasons really, it always was a little bit small for me, the big Beemer is much more comfortable and you can really chuck those GS's around, they are much more nimble than they look.

Anyhow, enough hijacking Tam's thread, sorry Tam! Beaches and Dogs, that's what everyone wants, not old motorbikes and mopeds!
