Tam, Jade and Franky's European Adventure

Mine have always gone on command for wee's n poo's, but I have one little madam who is very crafty, she sometimes sits and pretends she is going poo and watches me out of the corner of her eye and if I look away she comes running to me for her treat, so I say no you haven't done anything so she wanders off then goes, another trick of hers is she does half a poo runs to me for her treat then goes back and finishes the other half so she gets 2 treats lol...

My mum brought me up very well but I still can’t pee and poo on command....:D2

Well I can tell you that first attempt failed miserably. ..thats the longest she's ever took to do her last night pee

Doesn't help there's a cat wailing like its being murdered and has been for about 30 minutes. And then there's a bloody frog outside the van ...of all the things.
So she's hyper wondering what the cats screaming at and what the blooming frog is ...and then dogs start barking.

I'm out there saying pee ya numpty repeatedly to no avail.
Eventually in her own sweet time she did one that took at least 20 mins.

My (old enough to know better)young collie having been out for her late night tiddle some ten minutes earlier, asked to be let out again after midnight.
Fortunately I hadn't gone to bed, so I groaned, put down my phone on which I was reading the latest threads on Motorhomefun, crossed to the door and let her out. Moments later she was at the door again scratching to be let in.
She hadn't wanted a tiddle-she had left her favourite ball outside!

She's probably already sussed that as soon as she does her wee you'll hoick her back indoors, so she's deliberately dragging it out.

We've been doing the wee command since Roly was 9 weeks old, she's 17 weeks now. She knows what it means but still sniffs and snuffles around for ages. The other day I got fed up, brought her in and she went and did a stinky in her bed :( Now that was annoying.

I must say again that Jade has settled in very well. I think it helps that she's living and sleeping in the same 'room' with you and you've formed a bond very quickly. She's clearly loving all her new adventures - lucky pup.

:)Perseverance is needed, she has got used to mooching around, this staying in the same spot stuff is new to her. She has had the first couple of months of her life to mooch at will, you can't expect her to learn the new behaviour in a couple of outings!

Yes it could be that ....which is a pain as she always gets a good walk after breakfast and before we move.

That's my worry with just bringing her back in I know full well that she will then wee in the van and so far we have avoided that thankfully.
I'll just have to persevere

I have one that does that. Doesn't matter how many balls / toys are inside. The one she wants is always the one she left outside.

Hope you've learnt all of the rules....

@Janine absolutely brilliant! made me laugh out loud - we need to be able to see the world through our dog'so eyes.

Looks a bit Staffie which would account for the sniffing/terrier thing, very loving & loyal dogs.

It's funny because one of the photos Silvia at the shelter sent me i thought she looked like a staffie so did my mum

Taken yesterday, even at 15 he still likes to chew (or gum really) a newspaper!

Hi Tam,
I was a little concerned at you taking on a dog on your grand tour, in case it became restricting for you. I speak as the owner of a wonderful 15 year old geriatric pooch, dreading the time when he will not be with me, but also scared to leave him for too long in case he falls and hurts himself. One of my friends said he’s in a doggy care home! Home made food, carpet offcuts on the laminate flooring to stop him doing a Bambi impression, and not being able to get up... and generally coddled!
But, I see how much you have come alive in your pictures since you have had Jade. The picture of you with her on your lap, you look so much more relaxed than you did at the beginning of your trip and that is great to see.
I am sure that travelling alone is better with a companion, and with a cute dog you tend to find people stop and chat more.
May you have many happy years with Jade.
And it sounds to me like the training is coming on very well!

I won't lie I still worry she may be restricting sometimes ...but on the other hand the love and laughs she gives me more than makes uo for it. I believe there are ways around everything it's just a case of finding them.
Like the bike for instance. .she's adapting to going in the basket when I want to go for a ride ...if I can't get in to places with her then worse case scenario she stays in the van for an hour or so till I go myself.
I do have at the back of my mind the worry of what happens when i stop travelling and need to work again but then I think that's only because I compare to my last job whivh I've no interest in doing again so I'll cross that bridge when I get to it.
She's a great companion I couldn't honestly ask for a better suited dog ....there are a few times she drives me nuts but we will get there and overall she has been so easy up to now she just had a great personality.
I know that with animals there comes heartache it's inevitable but I love having her around and I'm glad I took the plunge:)

As i type this she has once again covered my van in chewed up carrot ...wjy she can't stay inn the one place with it I don't know but she loves nawing on one so I can't deny her it.

Doesn't eat much of it mind you but it's good for her teeth :)

And still despite all the blankets I got for her she prefers to snuggle up on my fleece :)

There's a British couple I've seen on a few wild spots I've been parked on and they ate here again tonight at cabo de gata ...they have a hymer b584 which is how I spotted them in the first place as that models on my shortlist for vans to replace franky.
They have the biggest cat I've seen with them it's huge and wears a big medallion ....it just goes out itself and wanders about but always returns to their van .....so clever and makes me wish my cats could have done that as I still miss them a lot. They live with a friend of mine now as they hated the attempts I made taking them in the car.
But this fella seems to enjoy motorhome life.hard to tell from the pics but he's nearly twice the size of jade.

Is it dumping its waste in the dunes...... tut tut.....:ROFLMAO:

Jade will always prefer your clothing to her blankets for a while as they smell of you and she still needs the assurance and to build up confidence in you & herself!
Well I don't mind that :)

We've just been for a nice run on the beach she met a cute wee jack Russel cross and had a game of chase and then we met a cat so she said hello had a sniff etc no barking or growling which is great.
I don't believe dogs instinctively chase cats I think they are taught it by owners and I want her to be good with all animals.
Cat was a little nervous but it let me pet it while jade and it checked each other out.

I'm thinking jade may be coming in to season as @gus-lopez dog Alfie and this wee jack Russel were getting a little frisky after a good sniff.
Going to have to keep a close watch on her just now

Bitches are usually about 10 onths old before they come in season for the first time, although of course not having an actual birthday date for her as you say you will have to keep an eye on her. But don't always believe what the horny males are telling you!
