Tam, Jade and Franky's European Adventure

I was reading a piece by a top Canadian dog trainer on how she house trains young pups, if she is woken by them wanting to go out at night they are put on a lead and walked briskly to a predetermined spot, ( possibly where they had their late night pee before going to bed),the chosen command ie "pee time " or whateveris given , then the trainer stands with them in that one spot til they "perform".
They are then praised and made much of before being taken straight back in doors. General mooching, playing etc is not permitted on these nocturnal trips.
I did not bring my current young collie up with these rules and she thinks the middle of the night is an ideal time for a game of football lol.
Sounds very strict.

But I guess it saves the meandering about before peeing.

But then she does make up for it by showering me with cuddles and licks :p

As was said earlier "wait 'til there is rain lashing down " or for some reason you are in a hurry. Peeing on command really can be very useful.

I'll give it a go ...but I'm not sure she understands the word pee

Blue was taught at a very early age the word "Peepee "and he knows the word especially at night when it changes to "Go do last peepee" He never really got the "Do Shit shit" though.

when i had my beardies and puppies i would wait until they squatted to pee and pooh, then quietly said 'hey, be quick' and they very soon came to associate those particular words with doing what they needed to do, and much less embarassing than to ask them to piss..:)

Yes I've had smaller awnings end up over the roof so I'll not bother with this one.
Especially the winds I've had in this trip that often come out of nowhere

I can understand your nervousness.

However come Summer Solstice there will not be much shade from the MH so I think you need a soluton.

Pulling the awning out just a metre or so does not give a lot of risk.

I have thought of straps - but anchored to what ? These pegs, even the spiral ones, would not be any good in soft ground/sand and no good on hard-standing.

Our solution is to get out the heavy tool box(10-12kg) and ratchet strap down to that. Ours is 4.5m long. In your case one weight at each end might be more secure. Water canisters would be good - 20kg each end. Would you feel secure then?

Keep at the training and don't let her 'charm' you - it will pay dividends.

I shall attempt the taking to one location and repeating pee pee tonight.
And in morning and will let you know the results.

The sod of course being there's a van parked 2 foot from me ( British aswell ) with no idea of personal space.

So they are going to hear a mad Scotsman repeating "jade gonnae piss noo" at midnight and again between 6.30 and 7.30 am :D

A few more pics of las negras from up the wee hill at the tower

In the last Pic the restaurant on the left at the bottom of the street was very good when we visited it last year! :)
I'll bare that in mind tomorrow when I scout around for a "menu del dia" lunch stop.
Gotta get jade used to accompanying me for lunch but not necessarily eating any lol.
This should be fun

To be totally correct I think one is supposed to wait for the required action before putting a name to it and of course you can use whatever words or language you want as Jade won't understand any of it until you teach her. ( probably your current next door neighbour won't either), I was married to a highlander for 18 years and frequently couldn't understand him!

I am sooo looking forward to autumn when we head out and catch up with you somewhere no doubt. SMACK ON THE WRIST for me I shouldn't be wishing my life away. I need to enjoy summer first...or at least whats called summer here.

Well I've been calling it pee pee so I'm pretty sure she knows what it is.
See I know they like stimulus to pre and poo which is why I let her sniff.
Problem is you don't know what sniffs are for finding a scent to pee to and finding something to scavenge.

And so far we haven't had any accidents indoors so it is working.
I'd just like her to be quicker on those two occasions last pee at night and early morning one.
I long for the day I can just open the door and say go pee then let her in when she's finished.

If that day ever comes lol

You might get a good summer in the UK this year as it was a bad winter and I'm not there.

Our terrier knows exactly what's expected of her when she goes into the garden before bed, over to the grass, bob down and straight back in; the schnoodle... its more of a wander round the garden while things start moving, deliberating which blade of grass needs "watering", I've tried everything to speed up the progress but the only thing to be done is to stand out there with him because if I leave him out and disappear then he'll be at the back door and wanting to come in with nothing having been produced!

Must be a male thing as our Welsh Terrier (male) used to be the same, although the older he got the slower it all became... record was just under an hour for the bedtime wee.

I guess this part of this thread is a variation on the emptying of cassettes and black water to be found on other threads!
It's a good job we have your lovely pictures as well.

You could, of course, pretend you are speaking French as pipi ( pee pee) equates to wee-wee. The other business is called a caca (double syllable of the Ford Ka)

Tam, you look after that lovely little dog. I say this as I was driving to Southampton to pick up our motorhome after some warranty work.
On the gantry signs there were warnings "animals in road". Speed limit lowered to 50. After a couple of miles there was a dog in the middle lane, clearly dead, it looked like a border collie. It really upset me. I hate to think of the turmoil some family must be going through.
My Charlie (springer) is 10 today and I try not to imagine what it would do to me if it was him.

Incidentally where in Spain are you...cause you could always stand out in the rain with jade and demonstrate how the pee now is done p

That is very sad :( ....ive only had her a week and can honestly say I'd be devastated if anything happened to her.

She's stole my heart that wee bugger ....cant imagine her not being with me now

Sorry Tam, but no chance! !
I wouldn't want to deprive you of such a wonderful opportunity to further your bonding with Jade.
I'm living outside Alhama de Granada but sadly in a couple of weeks I have to head back to the UK for some months. By then it will probably be getting lovely and warm here. Hmph!

Yes this pee thing can get frustrating, but persevere with it.
Most times now I can get G to pee, I take her to a likely looking spot better if she’s peed there before tell her to “piss, quick quick” and “be a good girl” and I whistle as high pitched as poss (whistle always works with horses) all that usually works, sometimes quicker than others!

I long for the day I can just open the door and say go pee then let her in when she's finished.

A long piece of elastic attached to the door handle so she can get as far away as possible, do her pee pee then bounce back to you as you finish your pee pee? Simples :-)

We did similar but just said quickly when we wanted them to pee. Doesn't take them long to associate a word with the action - you can use any word you like as long as it's always the same.

Mine have always gone on command for wee's n poo's, but I have one little madam who is very crafty, she sometimes sits and pretends she is going poo and watches me out of the corner of her eye and if I look away she comes running to me for her treat, so I say no you haven't done anything so she wanders off then goes, another trick of hers is she does half a poo runs to me for her treat then goes back and finishes the other half so she gets 2 treats lol...
