Tam, Jade and Franky's European Adventure

Yes Tam I don't like Christmas for very similar reasons. Best wishes for your Mum.

Hope mum improves and you’ll have her home for Xmas even if it’s only for the day, father-in-law was in Hospital one Xmas and we fetched him home in the morning & he went back later in the day.
Love the pic of Jade.

Don’t worry too much about the do not resuscitate order - it’s a formality in most cases - the form has to be completed, and there’s never a good time to ask. Chin up. Sending good wishes.

It seems at the minute we are having a good day followed by a bad day , the good days we can get her to eat a bit but on the bad days she's back to being tired , sick and not in the best of moods. We are waiting to hear about a transfer to a rehabilitation ward at the minute. We were originally told the queen Margaret in dunfermline which would have been good as less travelling but now told it might be in glenrothes:( which is further away again.

Even if she gets in a rehab ward it's then up to her to make a serious effort as they only allow a certain amount of time and then they would be looking at residential care

Not great...and still touch and go but looking highly unlikely that she will be home.

In other news windscreen finally got done today by psv glass.
Guys had a fair bit of trouble doing it , fitted a new windscreen rubber too which probably caused them most of the trouble ....still doesn't look quite right to me as a bit bumpy looking compared to before ..but will see.

If I can bare the cold I might try a weekend away this weekend mostly for a break.

Oh and in even other news I'm thinking of adopting jade a wee brother which I'd pick up in Spain in a couple of months.

Silvia has many lovely pups just now but there's two I really like But can't decide which is best.

Colorin ( I'd change name )

When Autoglass did ours they had to come out again as the rubber wasn’t sitting right and it does look a bit different on the corners, as if the screens slightly the wrong curve but it’s been no problem.

My worry is they pumped a sealant in around the seal then he shoved it in and cleaned off the excess but it looks bumpy and once that sealant sets it will stay bumpy. I'll see how it is in a few days but I may get them to come back out and check it.

They did it inside the bus station and was pretty dimly lit in there. But outside you notice it more ...Don't think I'm being fussy

I can see the temptation of adding to your canine family and giving yourself something to look forward to in these unhappy days.... but ..... might it be better to wait a bit and then choose a pup when you and Jade can meet them? Chemistry between dogs can vary and you need to be sure its one she's happy with. I'm certainly not trying to put you off a second dog.... I usually have two and think it's brilliant for you and them.

And good luck with your Mum .x

Thing is jade likes every dog she loves meeting all her friends in the park she's very sociable so I can't see her objecting to any.

I wish that all puppies were very ugly and then grew more beautiful as they got older. I'm sure that many people would be tempted to adopt any of the gorgeous puppies shown in the photos but that's not necessarily good for either dog or owner. If only more people would look into the pros and cons before making a decision that could make a huge change to their lives for possibly the next 12-15 years.

Tam, I'm not referring to you in the above paragraph - you have already proved that you are a caring and sensible dog owner.

Well I've just reserved little milo and he will be joining jade and I. Everydog jade meets she wants to bring home with her.
At the point when I do have to return to some form of work they will be company for each other. I believe in nurture not nature and jade is the cuddliest friendliest little dog I've met and from the videos I've seen of milo he seems a friendly loving little lad too so I think they will get on fine together.
Milo should end up around the same size but perhaps shorter as he looks quite stocky and short legged.
Jade gives me tonnes of unconditional love and a reason to get up in the mornings, she also keeps me active even when the weather is naff and I don't want to go out.

The final choice of milo or colorin was made by mum ad she thinks he's a wee cutey although she was trying to get me to take both lol.
The pics and videos of all the dogs at silvias that Sharon had been sending me had been cheering mum up for the last week or so.
She's still desperate to meet jade but we are hopefully getting her in to a rehab ward after weekend so can take jade in their to visit.

You're making me feel guilty Tam. Our last dog died 13 years ago, and at the time we had a small baby so it wasn't the right time to get another dog. Well, since then there have been 2 more kids appear, but the youngest is now 8 - and there will be no more - so the young kids excuse is wearing out.

Then there's the work excuse - not fair to leave a dog all day. Well, I work from home about half the time anyway - can't guarantee that will last forever - but Mrs F works school hours, so the longest a dog would ever be left is 9am - 3:30pm, which is manageable I think.

Then there's the holiday excuse. Not saying we're soft, but our last dog we used to take to my in-laws near Manchester in the car, before we went across the channel on our motorbike to mainland Europe. Fair enough. Only detail was, we lived in Southampton - so it was an 8 hour round trip at the beginning and end of our holiday, despite living 30 minutes from the ferry - all because the dog would have been miserable in kennels. Like I said, we're soft. Now, we've either got dog coming away with us in the MH (although 5 people + dog would be a little crowded.....) or dog going to stay with my parents, who are only 30 minutes away, providing it got on with their dog. So the holiday excuse is a little thin.

The kids would love a dog - especially my daughter. She's 14, determined to go to university, so only at home for another 4 years or so full time.

Now can you see why I'm feeling guilty. Last dog was a border collie from a rescue centre, 9 years old, we were his retirement home. He was as soft as butter. Another older dog may be on the cards after Christmas...….

I wanted a dog for years but living alone and working 12 hour shifts plus an hour commute time made it impossible so I.had cats. Then when I decided to go travelling I contemplated taking them with me but 1 had already adopted another family nearby and had been staying with them more than me for about 2 years so they kept him and the other I tried to get used to going trips in the car etc and he just hated it so my friend hazel adopted him and he now lives a pampered life with her.

It was only once I started my trip last year that I thought about a wee dog as a companion and then I got jade. I've already decided though that buying a house and staying one place again isn't for me ( at the minute ) so I've no intention of doing the type of work again that I did before either and would probably look more in to like event marshalling work or even working on a concentration camp ( oops sorry campsite) or something so wouldn't be far from dogs hopefully

Especially how things are with mum....if she goes I really have nothing keeping me here so I'll be looking to try and move somewhere else.

Indeed! We're not really cat people - I like cats well enough, I just can't see myself having one as a pet, plus we've got lots of birds in the garden. Can't abide having anything in a cage, which rules a lot of other pets out. So a dog it is I think.....

No *practical* reason to have a dog at all. But who wants to be practical?

Exactly....thing is I think I like animals more than people .
If happily throttle people who hurt animals and if money was no object and I owned large bit of land I'd have lots of them.

12hr shifts done that 4 on 4 off 2 days 2 nights hell also done few other patterns best one old continental one 8hr shifts days /afternoons / nights got lieu time with that - theres a global company in irvine does shift work.

My dog goes everywhere with me she's no trouble unless in her domain.

Wife has caused big problems needing a new hip she is not 60 yet travelling has been problem - operation today hopefully will be better and touring can resume.

Careful with 2nd dog jade could get jealous

Have lost both my parents younger than you at the time but all done in 6 wks hard but neither suffered hard approach but what life have they got stuck in hospital neither of my parents would of wanted to stay in hospital long term.

Sorry for being callous on explanation but would you be happy spending long time term in hospital your mum has pride and she wont want you to put life on hold

I would give it a try, our old dog Sam (see Avatar) had real aggression issues with other dogs, but when we introduced a young bitch into the house they soon got along. Holly used to hang off his neck and bite his ears, but if she got to rough he would just bark at her and she would stop.
Both dogs were rescues and sadly Sam has passed on, but he was as good as Gold with her.
