Tam, Jade and Franky's European Adventure

We met the guy with the wooden bike in Candas Carreno on Friday, and again today at the top of the Covadonga - I am one of the aforementioned lycra clad numpties :D.

He transports the bike in his motorhome to the start and/finish of each stage of the bike race he's following, then rides or stands around asking (very politely) for a donation from people who wish to take a photograph. The bike weighs 28kgs so I don't think he rides very far! If you managed to get a free photo you did well.

He practically insisted lol ...it was him that accosted a passing tourist to take the photos of us. ..think he maybe loves the camera :p

So today I bumped in to a guy cycling up on a wooden bike with a wee dog in the back ....well we had to grab a photographic opportunity there lol.

Great work of art that wooden bike - don't see any brakes on it though - maybe a "back pedal" brake on the rear wheel?

Yeah I think it's a back pedal

I also think there's a lot of aluminium bike frame underneath the wood. And he's built the wood around it

There's some people motorhomes seem oblivious to just how inconsiderate they are.
I'm sat waiting to get in to the service bay on an aire ...theres now 4 vans behind me also waiting and the dithering idiot that's been using it for the last 20 mins is standing wiping down his water hose before rolling it up , he's already been rinsing his breakfast dishes under the tap and washing his windscreen.

Go practice your spanish Tam, or scottish for that matter. He might just bugger off.

Well I got to torrelavega picked up some shopping then went in search of a car parts place. Not so easy to find in Spain. .first place Google recommended was like a tyre fitters which was no good ...he then sent me to an auto accessories shop which was no good ...i asked In a Mercedes dealers for parts places and no one knew.
I then spotted a place that sold and serviced motorhomes ( caravaning cantabria ) so i thought id go try there.
Very helpful guys ...2 brothers one of which spoke a little English so he phoned the supplier they get there parts from and managed to order me 2 sets of brembo brake pads
Bit of a carry on trying to find out which ones because apparently 3 types but he quoted a few numbers of the van technical plate and they seem confident it's the correct ones.
So they will be here at his garage tomorrow at 1pm then I just need to fit them ha ha
I'm hoping that will be hassle free.
€113 including vat for the 2 sets so not too bad.

So I'm now parked up in a wee carpark next to a park and river just 500 yards from the garage.

Nice quiet wee spot that will do me for the night and the park is handy for jade.

Will you be able to replace the pads in your parking spot..? Just in case theres a problem you won’t be far from the garage that’s supplying the parts.

I'm certainly going to try ..
Although I might see if I can do it near the garage incase I need to blag a loan of a better jack ....ive a trolley jack with me but it struggled last time and the scissor jack that comes with the van is slow going

If you lot want me to keep up this thread yiur gonna have to do a better job of keeping it on page 1 ...i can't be doing with having to go hunt for it you know I'm a busy man

And as Jim's banned me from the other forums it's the only thing I'm here for :p

Well I turned up at the motorhome place to collect my brakes at 1pm and surprise surprise they've not arrived yet ....why I here you ask ?

Well it's those stupid lycra clad numpties again ain't it because half the roads around torrelavega are closed bevause of that daft race so the parts delivery guy is having a mare of a time doing his round.

So whilst the guy here says they will definately arrive today he says as they didn't show up before 1 it could be 4.30 now as it's Spain and they have stupid long lunches.
So I'm sat here waiting. ...but on the positive side the guys letting me fit them here in his yard ....so I have one side of the van jacked up and the wheels and old brakes removed ready to fit new ones.
Strange as the rear most pads are the most worn down the front has around 4mm left on them but I will replace them all and they should be good then for another 30000 miles lol.

The front of the disc is a little scored unfortunately but isn't too bad only about
0 .5 mm So that should clean up over the next thousand miles as there's still plenty wear left in the discs.
So it's sat like this at the minute.

And is this a silly dog or just very trusting in her daddie's mechanical skills lol .

It still has the jack and two axle stands under it before anyone panics.

My dogs love going under the van, they seem to think the shade underneath the van is better than the shade they are already in! It's not so bad when the van is on leveling blocks but it's a bit of a struggle for a 50 Kilo dog to get under when it's not!

Probably because that’s the side the piston is on and maybe the calliper not sliding as freely as it should.

She spends half her life under there ....whenever we are parked up she's out on her long lead mooching around or sleeping under the van.

Still waiting on these pads being delivered ....i could have had them all fitted and on my way by now it's an hours job at best

Aye probably

One thing with Spain they are rarely in a hurry unless they want past me on a narrow or steep road then it's like their life depends on it.

Give the guy in the motorhome place his due he's being very helpful considering there's nothing in it for him
He's offered me electric hookup , coffee water for the dog etc

Very nice guy he didn't have to help at all but has went out of his way to be helpful.

I just hope when the next ones get here they are the right ones .....i just want the job done so I can get on my way

What did you get banned for this time? Is it not just the Belly locker? Anyone an excuse to bump the thread:LOL:

Keep Calm And Carry On. Chill I think is the word used nowadays.
Easy for me to say.....I’m sitting round a nice pool with a large g and t in 26 degrees. Haha!
Hope you get your bits sorted and on your way soon.

I've not been allowed to access the u shaped lounge since I took my break the other week.
It seems easier just to block me from accessing the forums than it is to stop the racist threads from being posted.
I was never banned from the belly locker I chose to block it months back because that was full of racist and homophobic threads.
I expected the u shape lounge not to be so I spent time between there and motorhome chat. Then when I took a break last month of my own choice I've not been able to access the u shape lounge since.

I wouldn't mind so much but I pay the same subscription as anyone else and because I complain about the content of some threads in what should be a relaxed forum I've had the forum removed from my options.

I can't be bothered arguing about it so I just left it ....but there was a thread in motorhome chat yesterday that i had commented on that has since been moved to either the u shaped lounge or the belly locker and I can no longer access it yet I'm getting lots of alert notifications on it which is annoying.

Apart from the odd thread in motorhome chat this is the only one I'm commenting on these days.

I now have about 25 folk on ignore lol ....it seems the only way not to see their dribble...unfortunately they can still follow and comment on my posts so I get this annoying see ignored content on the bottom of the page.
Personally I think a block function would be much easier then you can simply block the folk you will never agree with and be blissfully unaware of their exsistance.
It would cut out most of the arguments on here lol.

But hey ho

Brakes all done now I finally got them all finished off at 7pm

Miquel the guy from the motorhome place was a real diamond .....i gave them €20 as a thank you for all their help because they really went the extra mile.

So that's new brake pads all round now ...hopefully that's the last roadside repairs I have to do on this trip.
All just maintenance stuff of course but it's inconvenient and not as easy at side of the road.

Rear pads don't have a single wear warning sensor on them which is a bit naff. But theyve done 55000 miles.
And last time I checked them was December when the new tyres were fitted.

So I'm on an aire just round the corner from where I was last night so I can refill water etc in the morning and then head to Santander
Between the trains every 30 minutes and the church bells it's not the quietest compared to some car parks but it seems popular as 9 of the 10 spaces are occupied

Yes it would seem the block is only one way which is pretty naff. I kinda had a similar situation when I didn't want someone following/stalking me ..IMO.
Me blocking them doesn't stop them following or searching my posts. I think its something that @Jim has tried to address but current software doesn't allow. For this reason my posts have dwindled to almost zilch but my wealth of friends i've made on here remain, I just keep up with on WhatsApp...Like you for instance time to time.

Well done on the brakes, beyond me these days though when younger I thought nothing of any mechanical repairs.
Our dogs love being under the motorhome, it's usually cool but I think it's mainly because it's a protected space where they feel able to relax completely.
