Tam, Jade and Franky's European Adventure

@BreweryDave is right about that Tam, dogs don't need to be taught about fox shit, the desire to roll in it is part of their genetic make up.I doubt very much you will ever teach her otherwise :D
I was walking our first pair of dogs - Standard Schnauzer and Welsh Terrier - at Virginia Water with a friend and her dogs, they all ran off and there was a mighty rustling in the bushes. Seems that somebody had caught a couple of fish, put them in a carrier bag and then thrown them into the bushes - all 4 dogs found these fish and went off for a lovely roll! The fish were rotten... the dogs had silvery scales and bits of rotting fish on them, the stench was indescribable even after a bit of a scrub down with an old cloth from the car - had to drive home with my head out the window and it took most of the day to wash them off in the garden using cold water and every kind of shampoo I could find!

They do have a very bad taste in perfume

That is said through the eyes (or nose) of a human, dogs obviously feel differently lol.

You are not judging this scent using a dog's olfactory system. I expect they feel the same about your aftershave and deodorant :D2

I don't care it's my van she's no wearing that.

Filthy animal

Oh dear Tam, that attitude is not very generous spirited, she'll be ringing "Puppy Line"about her domineering Dad soon.
Glad to hear she's feeling a bit better. :D

I've found jade eats anything ...but with tablets I just open her mouth drop the tablet in the throat clamp mouth shut and strike her throat till she swallows ....seemed to work with her antibiotics etc when she got spayed.

If her urge to catch is strong, it's worth trying just flicking tablets in the air, if the mouth clamp bit upsets her at all. My old mutt wouldn't take tablets - the mouth clamp shut trick didn't work with him - but flick it in the air and he just couldn't stop himself trying to catch it and hence accidentally swallowing it - then standing there with a very confused look on his face, wondering where his new toy had gone.....

She didn't seem phased by the clamped mouth thing ...and she had to endure that twice a day for 4 days. ..i had tried putting it in food etc and she sniffed it out and avoided it lol..

The worming thing as you are coming back into the UK - you can get tasty wormers that dogs are happy to eat these days, it can save a lot of stress.

And where do I get them

Hmm, don't know as I always bring them with me out of the UK.
It might be worth asking in a chemist. I know you can buy them online, but as you don't have an address that doesn't help.
The ones I use are called "Drontal" or "Endogard"

i had a dog like that, it was when i threw him a cooked mussel and he almost had it in his mouth and then realised he didnt want it that i realised how good there sense of smell must be

Cheese works for our dog every time, vets in France seem amazed!

This bloody weather is depressing:(
Raining again this morning ...thats 3 days in a row I've had rain now ...its dull dreary and quite cold.
Frankies looking like a Itinerant wagon she's that dirty outside.

Haha you're in "green" Spain, wonder why it's called that???

Use the Tunnel Tam and if you can be at Mailleraye sur Seine there is a nice Aire there 5€50 and the Vet is just up into the Ville, speaks English, send an email for appt-
clinvetcedre@hotmail.fr
-reasonably priced (and if you had your own worming tab it would only be 15€)
Lovely spot to stay for a night too.
We use it when travelling back as it’s only a day or two (we take 3 days) up to the tunnel.
If you want a 'beach stop' in between look at Le Hourdel near St Valery sur Somme, no facilities there at all, free, and lots of sand and basking Seals!

Well that was the quickest walk to and round a town ever. But had a 50 minute gap in the rain according to my weather app so after lunch jade and I walked briskly in to ovieda for a look around the old town.....just got back to Franky and the heavens have opened once again.
Parked up here for easiness to the town ( see parking place below) although still a good 15 minute brisk walk to town. But will probably go park in the proper aire 3km away for the night and then head to gijon tomorrow.

Moved to gijon this morning , parked here and cycled in to the old town ...took about 15 minutes in on the bike.
And at least the rain has gone for now ....its not warm but not cold and it's brighter do that will do at least .
Won't stay here tonight , you could park here overnight but it's noisy and not very pretty so I'll find a spot along the coast later.

Hi Tam,
So good to meet you today as we have been following your adventures since Day 1. Nice to see Jade too, she really is very sweet and sooo friendly! Your tales have been a constant source of inspiration for us on our first MH journey into Europe. Keep up the good work!!

The bone shaped worm tablets are Drontal. Spice thinks they're a treat and gobbles them, Meg is not so daft and recognises that they are medicine. Best cheese to use if needed is a soft sticky one, mature camembert or brie goes down a treat. Meg really loves Cambozola, it's German I think but you can find it everywhere, a sort of blue brie.

Much as I love my dogs they can't have my cambazola, it's so creamy and delicious!
