Tam, Jade and Franky's European Adventure

Off out for a curry tonight with the two families in the ex army trucks.

The guy Alan with the merc boxvan behind the 6 wheeler truck bought this wagon for 1700 euros and the space he has inside is amazing ....its basic as vans go but it's also bombproof engine wise and solid bodywise.
And as he says if the layout doesn't suit you then you just change it. He's been living out here full time in his for 2 years now

Think when I sell franky I'm going to seriously consider buying a self conversion.
Been having a look on mobile..de

Is it necessary?
If I recall you have a Samsung phone?
If you open a photo in gallery, go to the menu top right choose details and it will show when & where your picture was taken... plus some technical bumf:

I think it's known as EXIF data, pretty much embedded in every digital photo.

Left ferraguda this morning popped in to Portimao to Lidl for some supplies and the went to the free motorhome service point at the intermarche ....pretty small carpark but 2 motorhome service points which is great but unfortunately the locals don't give a shit and park cars in them.
Didn't need the grey drop as I'd dropped that on the wasteland where I've been parked the last 3 days so really just needed to empty my cassettes and fill my fresh. Couldn't get in the bay for the parked cars so I just parked accross the back of them with the hazards going ...connected my hose up and proceeded to empty and rinse my cassettes.
Next thing there is a young police man round the back of my van and I thought he was going to tell me off for stopping where I had so I signalled 5 mins to him and he waved his hand and said it's ok.

Then I got a surprise as he was writing down the numbers of the 2 cars ...then I seen him on the phone ...i heard the tannoi announcement inside the store and nect thing 2 couples out at the cars ....he gave them both tickets after pointing several times at my camper the service sign and the traffic jam my van was causing in the parking lot.

Needless to say both couples were giving me dirty looks ...i felt a little bad but then again we get enough hassle for parking so in a way it serves them right.
The supermarket providing a good free service for us and plenty car park spaces but lazy sods want parked right at the door so they block the service area.

Anyway after that I took a look at the couple of parking spots In portimao but they were heaving so I headed along to alvor and I'm in a carpark there at the minute.

There's an alleged aire right behind me but it's basically a very dusty field with a water tap and charges 7€ for the privelidge if getting your van covered in dust. The carpark I'm on has a layer of very trimmed grass on it so it isn't dusty and I don't need the water tap so this will do me just now.

Had a wee walk with jade but she's complaining it's too hot lol so back to van for lunch then I think I'll leave her in for a bit and I'll go for a ride round the town on my bike

I liked Alvor town, splashed out on a lovely fish dinner at a restaurant there.... a lively little town and buzzing Main Street ...

Yeah it's lovely. .there's a sort of medieval market going on just now too ...lots of stalls selling all sorts of treasures and food and there's big bbq hogroasts going.
Beautiful beaches too and full of kite surfers.

What are you doing over winter and when are you looking at heading back..?
I'm going back for Christmas and as my mum's not been great ...van is due mot January too but I plan to sell this one then and possibly go tour eastern Europe next year.

That's unless I find somewhere I like between now and then and find work here in Portugal

Who knows

Just read your 'blog' from the start - although it took a week on and off! Great info and entertaining.

Looking forward to travel in the next year or so and this has made me very impatient to start.

Well as lovely as Alvor is its very busy ....from 8am this morning the wee access road was like the m1 with cars coming in to the beach so I decided to move.

I've found a lovely quiet wee spot over the lagoon from Alvor. .it's remote and there's nothing here bar sand sea and a million crabs. Nice and quiet and some lovely bits to walk jade. So I might get a few hours on the beach after lunch once I've worn her out so she'll sleep :)
You can play spot the franky in pics 3 and 4

That is a lovely spot, it is a few years since we have been though.

A few years ago we made the big mistake of 'permanently' siting our 5'er on a British owned 'rural and rustic' site (field) just inland from there, we didn't last long for various reasons.

At the time the bay in front was alive with cockles, the locals were coming down in droves, the little car park was rammed, taking huge bags.A similar thing happened near Tavira a couple of years ago, the next year there virtually none, they may have recovered where you are now.

Environmentalists have been fighting for years to prevent the building of a huge hotel and leisure complex just round the corner facing Alvor, don't know what the state of play is now but several injunctions were ignored in the past.

I am not a great fan of Alvor town, too much British and Irishness, but the beach and surroundings are nice.

Yes there were quite a few people here in cars when I arrived and I seen them out collecting things in the beach which I assumed would be crabs as there's literally millions of them crawling around but it could well have been cockles.

I agree about Alvor it was mostly British accents I heard going round there and last night it was bagpipes playing well in to the night at this medieval fare thing that was going on.

It's a lovely spot for nature though ....beaches are fantastic and loads of surfer types here.

The little carpark at the end has a few vans parked up in it so I'm about 100 yards down the road in a little laybye which is quieter and suits me for the day and night
Been teaching jade to swim so she's lying out drying herself in the sun now:)

Braw all my washing washed and tried ...got a bit of sun and been a lovely walk with jade ....shes soaking again as I may or may not have thrown her in the sea :p
She's ace at the doggy paddle though. ....cuts a fair wake through the water she does :D

@Northernraider need to brace yourself they reckon Portugal might be record breaking 48C by end of week !!
Yup, read that too, hence we are heading to Mikkis place tomorrow, with a pool:p

Due to the dog belonging to a fellow funster who shall remain unnamed jade is now stinking of whatever it was she rolled in
The filthy stinker now needs a bath so I'm in search of a part of the beach I can go throw her in the water.

I'm in Lagos now ....just arrived

ope it's short lived
So do I or you will know all about it come bonfire night. Jade will have enough to contend with when she gets to Scotland and has a culture shock. Wonder what she will do when she sees snow lol.
