Tam, Jade and Franky's European Adventure

A few pics of the Alhambra from the drive doon the hill this morning I'm afraid it's as close as I got to it but I tend to prefer the outside of most buildings than the inside so I'm not bothered. Don't know what it is though everytime I come inland to the hills and mountains the weather changes and it's got cold and dull again afyer such a lovely day yesterday. Had a drive through Granada and meh it didn't really impress me much , parking is a joke and even on a Sunday it's mobbed with tourists so I'm on the outskirts just now having a coffee and then I'm gonna pass a wee village called santa fe ...cause it's the name of a bon Jovi song I really like :p

So here's a few pics .....and maybe the song too ha ha ....enjoy

Not an aire or a recognised spot I just went exploring down a track I saw some lads go down on a dirt bike and found this spot
How do you decide?
Do you just see a 'track' off the main road & think I wonder what's up there?
20180428_144250-jpg.227836

or do you put a teensy bit of planning ie pull over, check a map or google earth to see if it looks promising?

A bit of both to be honest ...i tend to look and see where there's green bits or water and then go see what's there.

In Scotland there's few little tracks in the highlands that I haven't been down at somepoint and I've found some lovely spots.

Here with this size of van it can be a little daunting sometimes and I've had to reverse a good few miles before lol

I was awaiting your answer to Stephen's question with interest.

I do similar - just looking on the maps with topographical features for interesting areas.

As you said on another thread, Maps can tell you so much more than a satnav, especially maps like Michelin, which have so much topographical info. It perhaps helps that I studied Cartography at 'A' Level and University, but also used the skills in the TA and have used Ordnance Survey maps all my life.

Sometimes my 'Let's look down here' has resulted in a 'discussion' and 25% of the time I have been wrong(incl 9-point turns), but the other 75% has either resulted in something special for 2 nights, or at least something acceptable and peaceful.

That's the beauty of Ordinance Survey maps - absolutely brilliant for finding out of the way tracks & places m:) only in UK though!

I love to explore off the beaten track when I can ....one of the main reasons I'm going to downsize my van.

I would not argue with you downsizing, but would just comment that, since you and we seem to like the same sort of travelling/exploring, we are quite happy to do similar 'things' with 7m. Of course very occasionally that might be too big, but 0.5% versus the space for 100%?

I know you are a long time away from downsizing - after all, you are only a 'teenager' in the long-term MHoming.

I just mention it now so that when you do encounter a 'I should not be here' moment, you can assess what length/width would have been better - or maybe none, just not suitable for a MH, even PVC.

Gradually you might make a database in your mind which will lead you to the 'correct' size for you.

To be honest I've pretty much decided on a 6 metre van.
I like the look of the hymer 584 and the hobby 600 but if I see a hymer s640 or 650 at the right price when back in the uk thats what ill go for as i think that will suit me fine.

It would seem to be a week for reservoirs and lakes but here's another and my stop for the night ....you can play spot the franky in a few of the photos.

That looks really beautiful Tam and hopefully very peaceful. You certainly know how to find the most glorious spots. I am determined when I am on my way back from the UK I am going to take my time on route and look for such places myself. Just because I have now got a permanent place i don't want to stop exploring the rest.

Tam, sorry to be sending a message at this time of night, but Im only just catching up as I have friends visiting -but you are about quarter of a mile away from me!
If I wake early enough I might come along and see if you are still there, I would love to meet Jade (and you of course ).

So where are/were you parked Tam, or have you moved on? I've just been down to the area that your last plcs were tken from and no you. Or did you go back to the dam.?

Right so I'd planned to move yesterday afternoon but spent the day chatting with @Val 2 dogs And her friends dave and Polly who aren't on here I don't think and before I knew it we were at about half six in the evening so stayed here another night.
Up and showered just had breakfast and after a wee dander with jade we ate gonna hit the road ...heading back to the coast for a bit of a heat lol ....it was 2° here at 7.30 this morning which is too bloody cold for me.
Same spot but a few other pics of the lake under sunset and a fire plane doing practice

Loving this thread Tam, we've got 11 days before we, roughly, follow in your footsteps, although we only have 3 months for this trip.

Crossing at Irun and probably wander cross country toward Tarifa to kick off. We want to see much more of inland Spain on this trip, but considering putting a toe or 2 into Portugal, never been there in Harriet.

Like you we prefer to see most people in our rear view mirror, don't mind mixing occasionally and like exploring out of the way places. Been together for 43 years now and comfortable in our own company, and I've become accustomed to being under supervision.:rofl:

Harriet's an ancient B564, only 5.5mtrs x 1.98w X 2.75h but we've had a few ''pull in the mirrors and suck your breath in' moments' (she bears the scars from when it got too tight) but it's led us to some beautiful places.

Just had another clean MOT, some new rubber and off to Les Bateman tomorrow to investigate a noisy turbo/gearbox issue then Newhaven - Dieppe on the 12th, let the adventure begin.

Hymie.

Lovely drive down through the mountains
We drive round the lake on the gr4303 then joined the 3302 at fornes and then on to the a4050 which is narrow and windy but stunning views ...unfortunately most of the best bits I couldn't get photos so if your in that area I reccomend you drive it because it is truly beautiful.
Here's the few pics I could get....
We are now in Almunecar which looks a nice wee town and it's certainly a bit warmer down here phone says 15° but feels warmer than that.

There is a plaque to Laurie Lee ( As I walked out one Midsummer Morning) on the seafront who lived there prior to the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War and was evacuated along with others on a British Destroyer in August 1936.

Yes that's my next stop (y)

We've never managed to stop in the van, I look forward to seeing if you find anywhere. Last time we stayed there we arrived on a bike. Hotel on main square, Balcon, nothing better for people watching.

I can see a few places on park 4 night they don't look glamorous but I'll check them out when I'm there tomorrow or Thursday.

Tam you've done something to the Spanish weather. It's sooo cold :cold: for May and it's raining here in Totana :D.

Last year May had a heatwave and the locals were worried about a looong summer. Luckily temperatures moderated a bit.

Yeah yeah

I'm getting fed up every bugger telling me it's the worst winter they've had etc.

I specifically ordered a year of sunshine and so far it's no delivering ....im not impressed

It was an exceptional winter up to, and including part of January. Then when things should have started to improve, winter happened, and has still not caught up. The Spanish here are elated!!!
