Tam & co the great winter escape

Done that in the first place

Honestly i already try all these things people suggest .... the only way i could get her is with a net or i just have to leave her out all night and see if that gives her a wake up call ....i don't know what else to try .. obviously she has been in this situation before either with a previous owner or people on the beach or even perhaps the woman who neutered her ....i don't know . But she knows to keep a distance away and she can move way faster than i can .

Perhaps she doesn't even know her name is Ela??

I took the wheel off outside the parts place . The pads on this are the ones he doesn't have 🤷🏻‍♂️ .... but the pads themselves look ok and nothing obviously stuck in them . I couldn't do much else at that point due to where i was stopped. So i planned to drive to somewhere and stay overnight and take the wheel off again tomorrow and strip the brakes down. It has the same settup as the ducato so it has shoes inside for the handbrake but it could be them thats causing the grinding when i brake ...i couldn't see or hear anything when i had wheel off earlier but i need to remove the caliper etc and look inside the disc/drum ...but then i got distracted with this muppet wrapping herself round a tree and managing somehow to get out her harness. Now im preoccupied trying to catch her ....to no avail.

Im sat with the door open at the minute to see if she eventually comes in but as soon as its dark she's getting left as im rapidly losing patience with her.
She's a rescue and you've only just got her. You will have to learn to have the patience of a Saint and the training may take years. Dogs can be super sensitive to how you are feeling so if you are getting irritated it may push her further away. Beech was a nightmare as a puppy and i got very frustrated at times and she was at least 4 or 5 before she started to calm down a lot. I never did manage to train her not to pull on the lead but she's good off lead at least. I've fallen more in love with her the older she's got as the connection has grown but it takes time.

Sorry guys im going to just stop commenting on here tonight as it can be frustrating at times. ...if she hasn't come in by the time it gets dark the door is getting shut as my other 2 dogs are constantly suffering while i have to waste time trying to catch this one. ...she will then have another chance when they go out for a last pee tonight and another in the morning then thats her lot . She's out there at the minute having a right jolly to herself with a small stray while i just get more agitated.

Ill let you know in the morning if ive got hold of her or not ...but right now im just getting stressed. Ive no water , the van won't start. The brakes are buggerred and im fed up . So i need to switch off

If it's the same as the Ducato, there should not be, surely, any connection between the hydraulic footbrake pads and the mechanical handbrake, if, as you say, the noise is there ONLY when your using foot braking?

(The only connection I can think of, is if the pad or caliper, when sliding on the pins, is dragging part of the handbrake mechanism on to the disc?)

As you know, Ducato handbrakes have to be adjusted in a certain sequence, perhaps yours is the same

Are you sure its not coming from another wheel and the noise is travelling? It's surprising how it does that sometimes.

Greek drivers who were trapped in their cars as a result of heavy snow are to be offered €2,000 each in compensation as extreme weather caused chaos in Greece and Turkey.
Kyriakos Mitsotakis, the Greek prime minister, contacted the highways authority and ordered the money to be made available as a massive cold front swept across the region.

In Athens, rescue crews freed around 200-300 drivers who were trapped on a major road that links the capital with the international airport.
Some drivers abandoned their cars while others spent the night inside their vehicles.
Others trekked to a nearby train station and managed to board a train that made it through the snow on Tuesday.
"It was a very difficult night and we faced unprecedented conditions," said Christos Stylianides, the Civil Protection and Climate Change Minister. "I want to again express an apology from the state for all the difficulties that the (stranded) drivers faced."

In Istanbul, heavy snowfall blocked roads and flights had to be suspended at Istanbul Airport after the roof of a cargo facility collapsed from the weight of the snow.
In Italy, seven migrants, reported to be Bangladeshis, froze to death aboard a boat that landed on the island of Lampedusa after crossing the Mediterranean from Libya.
"Again a tragedy, again we cry for innocent victims," said Totò Martello, the mayor of the tiny island, which lies south of Sicily.

I'm going to risk your wrath and say "you better not abandon her". You've taken her from a place she knew where she had the company of other dogs she knew and seemingly quite a few visiting travellers who fed her from time to time. Not an ideal life by our standards but the life she knew. As has been said, adopting her in your circumstances was a huge undertaking and was always going to require tons of work and patience.
I won't be able to read your thread any more if you give up on her. Not that you'd notice of course 😀

Not legal anymore in the UK , but then you are not in the UK , and you can still get them abroad, I had the same problem as you with my 2 German pointers, tried everything, had to resort to electric collars, works absolutely great, you can adjust them to 8 different levels, remote control up to 500 yards reach , trained them with a whistle, , 1 blow on whistle is sit, don’t move, 2 short blows on whistle is return immediately , order not followed is getting buzzed, they learned to follow the commands in two days. Before the cruelty brigade jumps in, it’s not cruel if used withI care, I tried it on myself, it not worse as electric stock fencing, do you know what is cruel? If your dog dies in a road traffic accident because it doesn’t listen to his owner! As previous said, it was a miracle how quickly they learned , hardly had to use it after day 2, just use the whistle.

I seriously doubt he would leave her, he's just 'venting', give him a bit of time to settle down and he'll be back to adoring her once more! :giggle:

Get real you know Tam would never abandon her.

Sorry no matter what you say teaching a dog (or any animal) to do things by hurting/frightening it is cruel ... would you put it on a misbehaving child? No ... no different.

Just to add that we saw someone using one on our last EU holiday and I nearly went over to give her a taste of her own medicine, the dog wasn't 'hurt' from what I can tell but it certainly wasn't happy either. She'd tried to hide the collar by putting a bandana on the dog but I could tell what she was up to as she had the remote control in her hand ... when she notice I was watching her she soon stopped.

He’s understandably frustrated who wouldn’t be but l have no doubt he will see it through. Living in a small Van ,3 dogs, freezing weather etc etc l am sure a couple of days will pass and it will all look a bit brighter.
Stay sure Tam you are doing well under difficult circumstances.

We have to agree to disagree, I lost a dog in an accident, so give me the collar any day, and as said , I did experience it for myself and it is extremely unpleasant but not in anyway harmful, but then I did grow up with dogs being trained as police dogs so I am used to very different training methods to the average pet owners training.

my mate had a daft collie that he nearly had to get rid of.......fell out with the guy next door because all day it was barking at passing traffic in the garden even though it couldn't see the cars, couldn't walk it down the street without it going mad at every car that it saw, tried all the luvvy dubby stuff and was about to give in.
gave it one more go with an ecollar and within a week the dog wouldn't even look at a car, that was two years ago and never had to use it again.......never needed one myself but as a last resort.....gets my vote

Not at all, I met up with Tam a few years ago in Spain (with Busman Dave) and took an instant liking to him and the little black and white pup he adopted. We shared a coffee and a chat at a beach bar before moving on. Greece weather was discussed in his recent posts and I was just keeping him up to date with UK news reports.

I dont agree with these collars but i can see how an e collar can deter a dog from certain activities, it associates pain with the way it acts to certain circumstances.

However, i dont honestly think that each time Ella is called by Tam and does not obey that any form of electric shock is going to encourage her to come to him. Quite the opposite,

she will simply associate the pain with Tams calls to her. that IMHO will only make things worse.

I have witnessed our dogs cries when he touched a stock fence and these things are not for me.
but hey what do i know.

This is my gut feeling but he's very convincing
He's a Scot ... full of bluster and wind at times ... how else do you think they have the energy to play bagpipes!

If you have to resort to using something that is 'extremely unpleasant' then there's something wrong with the training being given, there shouldn't be any need ever to cause pain in order to train.

That's the owners issue, a lot don't have a clue how to deal with dogs who have unacceptable behaviour so instead of consulting a qualified dog trainer they try to do it themselves with what is in effect an 'offensive weapon'.

If you don't believe me then watch some of the dog training programmes, the ones called "Dogs Behaving (Very) Badly" is very, very good.
