As for the poor starting, that is a real oddball as pumping the accelerator pedal on a diesel should not really do anything..

That’s what I thought John, it would be a fly by wire accelerator..?

I’d check all around the throttle body and spray with contact cleaner Tam as it seems when you keep pumping it it may be making a better connection, an easy cheep fix if it’s that…

Well ive arrived at Eurotunnel far too early ...i had planned to stop at the services but missed the junction so im here already. Guy at check in booth said to go to pet reception anyway and they might put me on an earlier train . So will go in there shortly.

This should keep you amused for 5 minutes...excuse the hair and the sniffing it was cold. Just had a look under van and apart from gas drop holes and the cables theres nothing under there so no access to burner etc . I think id have to pull the fridge forward to check all that.

If the fridge is Ok on gas and not on 12v but showing light then most likely 12v heater element burnt out .

take an hour to whip that out clean burner and check if theres 12v on the heavy cables when running it went in so must be enough slack on cables and pipes to get it out

I can assure you that wont be happening. If it plays up ill manage without ...but for now it seems to work ok on gas . Once in warmer drier climate i might see if i can pull it forward and have a look .


I did get it cheap and to be honest illbe happy if when i sell it i get what its cost me back which at present is around 4k ....if i make a profit even better as it has potential if someone wants a fixer upper but i have little interest in it other than a 4 month escape from the cold and wet lol.

Ill fix what i have to and leave the rest alone as if i started pulling apart everything wrong with this van i could easily spend a fortune that i know i wouldn't get back.

The vario is going to be my long-term van this one is just a stopgap.

Been through pet reception everything alright apart from im 6 hours early so she had to ask permission for me to stay as normally only 4 hours .. she asked if i wanted on an earlier train 1.30 for £154 to which i just laughed and said eh no ta luv ....but she did tell me to drive round around 2.30pm and see if they let me on the 3.20pm one as there's space.

Im happy just to wait if need be. Its lovely and sunny and i can have a walk around with dogs and have some lunch etc

light is run by a 12v supply to the fridge electrics there is a seperate supplyfor the 12 v element which is switched on when the engine is running via a relay
screws to release the fridge are under the round caps inside the fridge two either side there is a restance reading to check the element i will see if i can find it

I suppose if all else fails you could get one of these and then sell it on when you are back in the UK. These fridges really hold their value.

I like waiting at the tunnel in normal times, have a walk around the shops, come back to the van to a coffee and sandwich and people watch at all the different folks going off to who knows where.

Aye its giving me a chance to sort stuff in my cupboards too lol. I need to have another clear out and use some of this stuff. I have about 50 batteries , just as many candles etc ....5 million spare fuses and 10 miles of cable ...lots of just incase stuff i carry with me but rarely use


Its very quiet here .... nothing like it usually is . Less than 20 cars in the carpark and im the only campervan at the minute.

Really hoping im not one who gets custom searched as its like a shithole in here lol

Do you have a transponder around the ignition lock that has to receive a signal from the chip in the key? A fault with them not talking will show everything as ok & just have the starter cranking with the immobiliser still saying 'off'.

what you need is some clear pipe so you can eliminate diesel running back? You'd be able to see it.
Didn't you also say you don't know how the heater gets its diesel? Could be an air leak on that connection if it is diesel running back to the tank.
Have you rung the garage & bo**-/*ed them?

Well they have let me through passport control etc ...guy came in to check gas ... raved on about how lovely the van was lol ... spent more time petting the dogs ..checked gas bottle and that was that.

French passport control just asked was o vaccinated ...never looked at anything and waved me through ...he was too busy chatting up his pretty blonde co worker.

Its very very quiet only a dozen or so vans waiting in these lanes no other campers
