Tam & co the great winter escape

I had a starting problem that’s sounds similar to what you are getting and was sorted by turning ignition on and off a few times. I say similar as mine was only when the engine was warm/hot. After I changed my starter battery the problem went away for me. Good luck finding a solution and better luck for the rest of your journey 👍

Probably not much help tam but i had an intermittent prob with my fridge as well. I'm a gas engineer so thermocouple was a regular check along with injector and a clean flue. However problem persisted and i finally got a dometic technician who talked me into a new selector switch complete and hey presto all good. Have a safe trip

Re your starting problem Tam, I had similar on a Mk 1 VW LT 2.4 diesel many years ago. Awful job to start it in the morning or even if it had been stood for a couple of hours.
Turned out that there were two 50 amp fuses for the glow plugs. One of them had broken in the middle. Replaced it and the engine started perfectly. Has to be worth a look, you never know.
Thoroughly enjoyed reading about all your travels Tam so all the very best for this trip.
I used to go to Greece with the lorry back in the 90’s but my wife never got to come with me so we’re hoping to get there with the van next year.
Stay lucky Pal.
Peter

Lovely sunny morning here but a very cold start ....warming up a little bit now , peaceful night and ive sussed a way to make the bed thats pretty comfortable.

We had a walk in to town and around the historic centre ...last time i was here the whole cathedral was in scaffolding but theyve done a lovely job on the stonework.

About to move on now ... hoping this bucket starts as there is now 3 other motorhomes here and its embarrassing cranking it over many times 😁

As if I don't have enough probs with the van my phone is now playing silly buggers and isn't charging properly....

If your charger port is playing up Tam a solution is to buy a cheap wireless charger, like the attached. If your phone is modern enough.

Hi Tam, if you are heading for Germany crossing Belgium, have a look at the Bier Museum in Rodt, it’s the German speaking part of Belgium., free parking, loads of space, very quiet, hundreds of beers and good food for little money, it’s edging on a huge forest, lovely walks for the dogs, good access roads, even for big vans.
The other one not to miss is the little medieval town of Monschau , not far away from Rodt, just over the border into Germany, it’s a stunning little town, not to be missed!

No one to bother you at the beer museum their parking is huge, so you can tuck away in a corner along forest edge overnight!

Its worth using a tankful just to get the satisfaction of the cheap fuel:LOL:
I filled up at €1.55 this morning at Tournai ....i thought that was dear but ive seen it as high as €1.78 since then 😱 . Im getting around 310 miles to £70 in diesel ...that was at £1.51L ...better than the hymer at least.

What's up with the diff whine, have you checked the oil level ?
