Tam & co the great winter escape

Tam, I believe its not until January 2022 but you could start paying roaming charges on your phone, depending who your provider is.
I am with EE and it will be £2 per day if I use my phone whilst in the EU.

That would be really expensive on a decent length, ie 90 day trip £180 eek - we'll be needing a work around

I phoned them up (EE) and asked for a code to leave. Refused all instant offers and said just send me the code. An hour later a manager called and offered a better deal than my old one and then I pushed for free EU roaming, which I got.
Always worth a try.

It'll be interesting when you go to EU next year to see if you actually get free roaming ?
Yes, I have checked on my account details that it is there.
Sorry Tam, thread hijack alert, my fault.

If it’s an iPhone it will probably have a little bit of fluff in the charge point, get something small like a pin to remove it

Not so sure on your fridge not working on 12 volts!
Ours does not work on 12 volts.
We live in Lockerbie, and travel the route to Dover in the day.
If we have put the frozen food in the freezer it will be still solid at Dover with no working freezer.
So if your freezer had not kept the temperature whilst driving ( assuming it was switched to gas whilst stopped and our night)
I would say it’s not working on gas as well.

I am with ee but I was led to believe if you had an exsusting contract with them that they honoured the free roaming

It's a samsung but I've cleaned out the port etc ....but when I connect its saying nearly 3 hours to charge and it's at 50% already....normally about 40 minutes

3 different cables all saying the same. It should have been fully charged in the 90 minutes it took to drive here from calais

that is true Tam, and you can have a add on when you renew that allows all calls and txts and 50gb of data in the EU. its my belief that if you just allow your current contract to run on past its normal expiry date then your current allowance in the EU is maintained. however, how long that will last 🤷‍♂️

I had that with mine. It still needed more cleaning. I couldn't believe how much muck had got in thr in no time at all.
To stop it happening again I now use a magnetic adapter ,one half of which stays in the phone socket permanently. The other half on the fast charge lead.

I think your just not getting the amps where you have the charger plugged in to…

I had a similar starting problem with my Renault master van , thought it was glow plugs but turned out to be a split in the rubber ball primer , I noticed it when a friend was cranking it over , I seen an air bubble through the clear fuel lines , easily missed , although it was drawing air it wasn’t leaking fuel

But why would it only start playing up today? Tablet charges ok just the bloody phone
Maybe the charger or even the cable. Im was always renewing cables. I usually by a few at a time.

Depends on how long you have been with them.. Its quite complex but you have to read all the T's and C's
