Tam & co the great winter escape

3.5 hours later she emerged from the bushes and i managed to get a hold of her and put her in the van .....thank god as i wouldn't have slept a wink tonight worrying about her ....but shes in and safe . And its now pouring down so im glad of that . As i said its sometimes 2 steps forward 1 step back and so very frustrating. But tomorrow im going back to keeping her on the leash and/or the long rope as ive lost the confidence in letting her off again. We are not that far off the road here and i just couldn't get the thought of her going on to the road and some passing car hit her. I know she can obviously pick up on my energy etc and thats why she wouldn't come but i find it very difficult to not get stressed when i can't coax her in and i can't get a hold of her etc ... I thought by now she would know im not going to hurt her but obviously she doesn't. Its such a Shame because otherwise shes had a great day ...jade and milo have been great with her today ...milo is even chancing his luck now trying to hump her lol and she's encouraging him.

Ah well tomorrow is another day as they say .

Few pics from today with the drone before she caused a riot. Flipping heck Tam, have you applied for French citizenship, all that beach & 3 vans practically touching each other. :xrofl:

Could the arrival of Dave n Marsha have caused the problem with ella? Perhaps her bad experience was connected to a similar van or something?? Just a thought!
EDIT: or the drone?

Oh thank god you found her, I was getting worried myself and she isn't my dog, I don't think its that she don't trust you , its because she has lived all her life in the wild and had to fend for herself and it will be her instinct to do that for a long time yet, yes you are going to need to keep her on a lead for a long time yet as she will have a tendency to take flight when she feels like it , but she will eventually get a rapport with you .

What a lovely spot to wild camp. Presumably someone had kindly fly tipped the pallets there for you to have a camp fire. Looks like you needed the fire, you're all rugged up.
Incidentally, what make is Dave and Marsha's motorhome?

I don't think so as she's been around them all day and theyve been on a doggy walk with us etc . And they were inside the van when i was flying the drone. I think its purely down to giving her tok much freedom and she thinks shes still wild .

Yeah the pallets were dumped by the bin , we've litter picked all around us too and gathered lots of debri off the beach ...fire kept us warm for a bit while we were all outside waiting for ela to return.

Their van is a 1986 vw karmann gypsy .

She's lay in the cab on the floor in a bed since i got her in .... kept herself to herself since ...she ate her dinner in there and hasn't socialised with us all night. Now made bed up and went to bed and she's still in there ☹️ i don't know whats up with her .....maybe she preferred being wild

you could be right , she Was well fed & maybe happy ! , BUT. I’m sure she will be happier with you & the boys , just need to give it time , all will end well 👍

Be patient with her, it will take time, if you where to go back from 18 months living on the beach in Greece and turkey and where to be put in an office job in a high rise building you would like to escape too from time to time🤷🏻‍♂️😇👍

I'm glad you got her safely back in Tam, remember she's not the only one with a lot to learn - there are two of you.
As others have said she's been a wild dog fending for herself for a lot longer than she has known you. Too much freedom too soon was an easy mistake to make, I would also be paranoid about the close proximity of the road- you would never forgive yourself.....
In my world regardless of how good and settled she appeared to be, she would be dragging the rope for weeks.and having multiple recall lessons a day where she was called ONCE-ie. Ela come! Given moments to respond and then reeled in, being encouraged with "good girl" or "good come" in an excited and happy tone of voice and rewarded with fuss and treats once she reached you and allowed you to take a firm hold of her collar.
Only giving the command once stops her learning tbat you can be ignored until she is ready to comply, never give tbe command unless you are sure that you can enforce her compliance.
Once again I am so pleased that you ultimately got her in, I bet you were very relieved too.
That campfire looks so great and relaxing, i hope you were able to unwind and enjoy the good company.

I'd love a gypsy were they ever RHD?

Probably a bit slow for my needs!

Cheers James

There are some RHD's but more Lefties.

A lot have golf tdi motors in now, so a bit more civilised in the performance stakes

Totally agree, it is soooooooo tempting to think you can trust them but it will take a long time, we've had many rescue dogs, some were great others would be off at the slightest chance, one was like flipping Houdini no matter what we did she always managed to get out, she must've had some 'monkey' breeding in her as she could scale anything! :giggle:

Even our Minky at 8 months is still on a long lead most of the time when out with hubby on his own, it doesn't bother her but it means he can grab it when he needs to so she gets freedom but it can be curtailed as she does push her luck. I don't think you're close to that point with Ela though no matter how far you think you have got with her as she hasn't had the chance to properly bond with you yet and until she does she won't regard you as her 'family' and want to stay with you all when the 'grass' in the outside world, which she is more used to, is still looking much 'greener'. You'll get there in the end but it's not going to happen in a few weeks I'm afraid.

Yes Dave's runs a golf tdi ...but hes been having problems with loss of power ...they spent the last 3 nights in a garage before joining us ...but the guys couldn't find the problem

Yes i agree with alot of what you both say . Of course the one other problem i have at the minute is the too many chiefs problem. Whilst i do appreciate jackies help at times with the dogs and i appreciate that she played a big part in me finally getting ela ...theres times when im calling her back etc and jackie is also calling her and saying her name , giving her food etc and i think that is distracting for the dog ....we had quite a disagreement last night when ela did her disappearance as i was trying to jist ignore her for a while to see if she came back but Jackie was repeatedly going round calling on her and saying daft things like " you just have to make her " etc . It does get frustrating as does sometimes advice on here when the dog is showing zero interest in treats of any description , food , toys whatever you can think of but refuses to come back or follow the command 🤷🏻‍♂️ .

It is very hard to keep her on a lead all the time when she does want to run and play with the others and the strength of her she nearly pulls your arm out when she tries to chase the other 2 .....hence me letting her off earlier than i had planned and she is generally very good when off the lead its just getting her back on it or getting a hold of her that is difficult. .....very difficult.

My other problem of course is while jade and milo are mostly well behaved there is aspects of their behaviour i should have sorted before and didnt ...and i now need to bring them in to line too...... Milo's barking being one of them.

I don't expect it will be easy but im going to try as it will make life easier all round .

😁 The sand is too soft in front of us to drive them further on the beach ... I dont mind being parked close when its friends and people i want to socialize with ....its when its a perfect stranger that parks a foot away and you can hear them eating a packet of crisps lol

I think you better get those hot pant things or it might be Tam and the ten dogs 😮
I'm pleased to hear she's back with you
No chance of that ...none of them have the necessary equipment 😁 i think its milo attempting to be the alpha. Hes not even at the right end most of the time but it is quite funny to watch given the difference in height 🤣🤣

Boy and girl ... remember jade is a girl too.

But yes i think she does enjoy being with us its just she also enjoyed being her own boss too. We will get there im sure.

I am being patient .....or at least im doing a lot better at it than i did 4 years ago when i first got jade. When i lose patience i tend to just walk away and blow steam out my ears . The frustrating part is feeling completely helpless and unable to do anything. And when i can see potential dangers around thats when i then start to panic. I know she can pick up on that so that only adds to the frustration then .

I know the feeling, I had 2 German pointers, 2 sisters, the most lovely dogs you can imagine, had them from pups through to end of life, they where very good until they spotted deer or anything else that took their fancy, calling them back at those instances was most of the time impossible , it’s a terrible feeling, I had to reside to training them with a electric collar and a whistle in the end, which actually worked really well, but these days illegal. Once I lost them for 45 minutes, we met where I parked the car , miles down the road after me looking for them all that time.

We've just had a dog wandering around here. It was a stray that was brought into the Perrera (dog pound) and then went to a foster home. She escaped from the fosterers on a walk 18 months ago and disappeared. A few weeks ago she reappeared, still wearing her, now disintegrating harness. Just where she'd been is a mystery. She had to be caught in a cage trap and taken to the vet. She has a nasty leg injury, caused by the harness. She wouldn't come near anyone whilst free, but once caught isn't at all frightened of people.

There are just some things that can't be explained with animal behaviour.

Poor thing ... that sounds horrible

She was rescued by Friends of Mazarron Animals who, incidentally, benefited by €50 for your old dog trailer that you left with Richard gus-lopez who repaired it and asked where he could donate it to and we gave it to them. It was auctioned and they got that good amount for it.

So, thanks to you also 💕
