Tam & co the great winter escape

Yes jade and milo take their time ...they were often more grazers . I could leave food in the bowl all day and they would go back and forth when they felt like it. Problem is now if i left the food down all day ela would scoff it. She may change but if not ill have to just stick with feeding them all separately then lifting the bowls when they've all done. None of them are going to go hungry as they all get treats and titbits through the day anyway. Treats after walks for instance and bits of whatever I'm having for lunch. We will all just adapt accordingly .
My dad (who was a lifetime down show'er and breeder said never let dogs graze. It's not natural. He always lifted the bowls, eater or not. It seems to stimulate their appetite. In a pack you eat or die.

We do the same now. We had a jack Russell who was used to grazing but when it met honey it always polished off the bowl just to stop her getting it.

Jade and Milo will soon learn.

On a separate note has anyone driven from turkey to greece with dogs at any point?

It was just something the vet said yesterday when she was asking how long i was staying in greece before taking ela home and id said probably till February unless i go to turkey for a few weeks then back to Greece etc and she said that maybe i would need a titre test done because turkey not in the EU......i said to her that id entered greece from Albania that was also not in the EU but that no one at any of the border crossings had paid the slightest interest in the dogs at any time. ...she then said yes they might not . But now the seed has been planted I'm wondering if I'd have any problems as i am considering maybe going in to turkey after new year.
Could it be that she just wanted to earn a few more Euro's???

The Titre test is a little complicated if you are not aware Tam. The Vet takes a sample of the Blood but cannot do the Test is has to be done by a Lab with the correct Certification and can take a month to get the results as there are so few Labs with Certification, this couldn’t happen immediately for you as Ela has only just received her Rabies jab and will have to wait a period before they would do it.
It need not upset your immediate travels as you could have the Certificate sent on or schedule in a reroute to ret for it.
We had it done when it was threatened to be needed after Brexit and are still glad we have it for that just in case moment.
Sit down………..the cost……….for us……….nearly €300!

I didn't get that impression she gave me worming treatments free of charge ...i got the impression she did all the work for the rescue woman and she also seemed overjoyed i was taking ela.

Yes i read about it before a while back but hadn't considered it for turkey ..the vet herself said she didn't know if any checks would be made just that it was a thing .

Like i said none of the border guards have taken any interest in the dogs ...only me and covid status so far .

Much better weather today im actually too warm 🤣 Ela been off the lead for a little while ....she did ok she does come back but it needs work .... I was very nervous letting her off but i do think as she followed us on our walks a few days before i took her in ...she does want to be with us. ...so ill let her have a little time off each walk and build it up . I did forget to take treats with me though which i won't do again.

You been shaving your legs Tam? I thought they'd be much 'woollier' what with you being a Scotland dweller! :giggle:

It looks so lovely and peaceful in those pictures, just bliss, for us and tbe dogs I guess, but nothing to generate income for tbe locals.
On the note of border crossings, I remember a true horror story many, many years ago, before the days of tbe EU or whatever it was known as back then in the 'equine press'. I'm pretty sure Greece was the country involved.
A British chap was doing a "round the world" trip, or some such with two horses. In the course of said trip, he entered entered Greece, when he came to leave via a ferry, he was informed that healthy horses, mules etc were not allowed to be exported. Apparently there were gangs of men on the dockside smashing animals legs with sledge hammers to lame them and thereby render tbem eligibke for export!
As I recall, he quickly retraced his steps inland and left his horses to live out their days with friends in Greece.
I am sure such things no longer happen (am I)? but I recall being so angry that such barbaric things happened and even more angry that this stupid man had not done his homework before putting his animals at such risk.
Thankfully I believe they don't eat dogs in Greece!

That's ok. The tide will take it out as she is far enough down the beach. Problem is,, as an ex submariner I know all the Shushonety floats on the surface. :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

No tides around there although waves might help, but also might push the deposit further up the beach. Pick up.

Actually there definitely is a tide here as the water is further out now than it was this morning and was further in last night.

As for the poo there is rather a lot on this beach ....its quite a doggy spot ..milo is doing my head in barking at all the ones that pass with people . All of which have been 3 times his size

Ela been good as gold again today if a little timid at times...its weird shes so relaxed and chilled but still trembles sometimes when you go to attach a lead on her ....she didn't want to come outside for ages today after our walk ...she went inside the van and lay on the cab floor while jade milo and myself were out sunbathing ....i didn't want to force her thinking perhaps she just wanted some space so i left her for an hour or so then went in and carried her out sitting her on my knee for a while till she regained her trust and she was fine after that . Sat down on the beach for a while with her on a long rope so she could have a sniff around etc . Then another long walk just before sunset .... she's lying here snoring now ....they all fast asleep .
Had lots more cuddles from her today she really is a very affectionate dog ....and so so good walking on the extending lead ....i think in the mornings she's full of beans so she pulls a bit but by afternoon shes a lot calmer when walking and just ambles alongside

Thats great news, she seems to be making good progress everyday (y) I think the feeding issue will sort itself out in time because they all seem to get along fine at all other times :giggle:

Yes im working on that but this morning i just hand fed them breakfast ....i will continue doing that for a while as it worked well and it helps ela recognise her name as i say each name when i give them their share.... 1 for jade , 1 for milo , 1 for ela ...it works

dinner time they get fed spread out but at the same time and now after i have eaten ....i keep ela out the way till the other 2 are finished then let ela clean up as she's bigger .....and it saves washing their bowls 🤣🤣

No ,she is quite right & I hadn't remembered that fact either. A titre test is necessary to re enter the EU form a 3rd country. They usually always check dogs returning from morocco, so Turkey & Albania etc should be the same. Before brexit was finalised I got one to re enter the Eu from the Uk just in case the rules changed whilst I was in the UK
I am not absolutely sure Tam but I believe that a titre test is needed to return to the EU from Turkey.
yes,

yes,
Thats the thing though ....no one even batted an eye at the dogs when going through borders at Croatia , Montenegro, albania or entering greece .

But not sure if they would on return from Turkey thats the problem.

She’s doing so well already!

My rescue spaniel still flinches when I touch him even after 5 years. Who knows what happened to them before we met them :(
I just hate seeing a dog scared ....when she cowers away it breaks my heart ... hopefully she will get better

She may not be scared as such but nervous. You know you're giving her a better life but she just knows she's been taken away from everything familiar. It will take time and you're doing all the right things. Although if she wanted to lie in the van, I think I might have just left her.
