Tam & co the great winter escape

How do you know he hasn't just charged you for a worthless piece of paper.?
Is it in English.?
Its all entered on a computer and printed off. But in truth no one does know if it's worthless or not ...but its what it is

€30 for Jackie?....

Great pictures but it makes one wonder why most European towns use cobbles, which allow water to drain away, and Britain uses tarmac that cause flooding? Sorry, off thread wrist slapped .
Great read Tam!

I just got told off in the supermarket as my face covering was not a medical mask 🤷🏻‍♂️ despite half the customers wearing masks meant for sanding etc ...and many of them not covering their nose or pulling them down to wipe their noses then touching trolleys and produce....the world has gone mad.

Cant believe the price of meat in Italy ...€8.95 for 4 small pork chops 😱 ...

Then i also got told off for not having a price ticket on my croissants so i never got my croissants ...
I find shopping in france and italy a traumatic experience.

Anyway i picked up a few essentials and a bit of chicken for a curry tonight and back at van

Bugger to start again this morning and its really weird as it will not start unless you pump the accelerator pedal very strange

Despite being a qualified diesel engineer, I can rarely get my, long owned, 1989 VW T25 Diesel Camper to start first time once warm. Cold it's okay.
After stripping the fuel system several times, renewing heater plugs, relays, fuses and both air and fuel filters AND diesel pump fuel cut-off,
it still would not start well when warm BUT it will start SECOND TIME I operate the starter key. I just turn the engine over a few time, switch off and turn the keys again and it starts!
After some years of this, I was passing 'Brickwerks' near Holmefirth, and spoke to Simon, a genius with T25 VeeDubbs and he said, "Mine does exactly the same and IF you find the cause, let me know" IF a GENIUS says that, what can we mere mortals do? So now, 8yrs later, I STILL have to do the double start and it works EVERY time.

PERHAPS, if you haven't got the starting sorted (I'm only on page 14, bear with me) you might try it. It MIGHT work? Good Luck!

Tam

As I said in PM to you I am trying to catch up, having travelled in the opposite direction fro Greece only a few weeks a couple of weeks ago.

You seem to be moving quite fast but so did we but using the Go Box. That was because of need to get back to Basia's Mother - plus another reason - more news on that tomorrow.- no, Basia is not having a baby!

Re starting problems, does the pre-heat light stay flashing after starting for about 30 secs? It does on my Fiat, which means one or more heaters are not working.

Hope you get it sorted.

Good travels laddie.

Geoff

The yellow glow plug light on dash can run for, up to, 20 seconds on a Fiat in cold weather according to Fiat Professionals?

Its temperamental....if i turn ignition on and off leaving till diesel pump stops and i do that 4 or 5 times then it starts no problem ...most of the time ...some times it doesn't. When warm 9 times out of ten it starts first flick of the key but then on the odd occasion it doesn't and then takes ages to start. It always starts in the end though and when running its fine 🤷🏻‍♂️.ive just got used to it for now ...but when im eventually in greece i will enquire at a couple of small garages and see if i can get someone to have a look at it .

Hi Tam hope all is well fella. just to throw my two penneth in regards your starting issue, i had the same problem with my Renault. It just would not start until you had nearly flattened the battery. Harder to start when cold but still trouble even when it had been running ! I took it to the garage and they found a small air leak in the fuel pipe under the bonnet which was causing air to get in the fuel line. When it was running it was ok but when you stopped the fuel ran back because of the air leak which made it difficult to start again. Hope you get to the bottom of it as I know from experience its not just annoying it can be a bit embarrassing, thats why i used to wait for people to clear off before i attempted a start :giggle:
Take care fella (y)
When I FIRST started as an owner driver/transport operator, I owned a Leyland Buffalo truck while doing European trucking, if the engine was hot OR cold, I had to wind it up on the starter motor while it belched out white smoke from the front mounted exhaust before it would start.
Strangely enough, It was all okay when running, no smoke at all!

Sometime, they loaded me on the Townsend Thoreson 'Freighter' FIRST and I would HAVE to be the first one off at Zeebrugge.
It was SO embarrassing because, It seemed like an age by the time the Buffalo got started and by then the deck would be in a COMPLETE white-out from the smoke and no-one could see more than a few yards in front of them until they opened the rear doors to cause a through draught.

Needless to say, although I could not afford it, within 3months, I bought myself a second-hand DAF 2600. Pure Luxury by comparison (it even had a sleeper cab!)

I have read, that when one turns the key on and off TOO many times to pump up the fuel on some vehicles, the ECU will recognise that this is NOT normal and stop responding. Perhaps, if you have a scanner, it might be worth giving it a look and clearing any faults
(On my Fiat X250, I only switch on and off 3 times to refill my fuel system after changing fuel filter and, so far, have had no problems)
ALSO:
IF the Iveco is the same as the Fiat, the accelerator has a position sensor that, being down in the footwell near ones feet, can get very muddy causing poor connection. It might be worth cleaning and a quick spray with contact cleaner?? Good Luck!

I've never been to Albania but recently I bookmarked a couple of places for future reference that look interesting

The Blue Eye - beautiful lake and waterfall

Berat - historic town

Castle of Gjirokastra

might be worth looking at if passing nearby ?

Got rudely awakened at 6am by the call to prayer from the mosque. Apparently its the oldest mosque in Albania ....

Been a hike up to the castle ....400lek entry fee but we have no lek so paid €3.50 each ... cracking views . Lots of dudes in camoflage , sunglasses and carrying rifles around here ....mostly hunters , but some look right dodgy. It certainly has character though

Have driven over to the coast now...parked up at the beach at a closed beach bar ....mario the owner has told us we can use the tables , chairs , toilets, shower etc if we want. He's also a mechanic and owns a garage in town so he has had a look at the ivevo and thinks it might be the non return valve someone has fitted before ...hes going to see if he can get one and try it ...he will come back later.

I found the spot on park4night and came here because lots of reviews saying how friendly and helpful he is ....i expected someone older but hes only around 30 i think . There's a stray mum and 3 pups here .... she's given milo a right telling off for chasing one of the pups.

What lovely doggies.

I'd want to bring them home with me. How do they survive?
Theres another van here thats been here for a week and they have been feeding them , ive just taken a large tub of doggy biscuits too them aswell ...i think probably a few vans coming and going will feed them. The german people are taking one of the puppies when they leave.
