Tam & co the great winter escape

I suspect, (but don't know the legal situation in Turkey) that they will have no insurance anywhere. Check their reg on the DVLA site;)
Really !... thought only Faceache Police did that sort of thing

I love Renault 4s so youll find lots of pics of them in my travel threads. I'll buy one at some point once the vario is finished .

You get them in great condition throughout europe ...lots of patina but usually solid ..
Remember my dad had one when I was 8. Rikki the Smooth Haired Fox Terrier went in the "boot" of our affectionally named Bread Van. Gear stick was a wierd handle straight out of the dashboard. Rolled like a Premiership striker in the penalty area. Loved it. 😍

One thing jackie and i have agreed on ..the croats or Croatians ... whatever they are called sure arent the friendliest or the happiest ...no one says hello or smiles ...or replies when you say hello or thanks etc . And they all walk around like someone stole their candy floss.
We stopped in Korcula a few years ago and hired mountain bikes with only two paperbacks as a deposit. Remarkably cheap coffee bars and shops full of coral jewellery. 🙄

From what I understand from the links given, you must have insurance, but a green card proof of insurance is not required. I think you would need to talk to your insurer.

“The drivers who enter the territory of Montenegro and use their vehicles normally based abroad, that, the vehicles bearing foreign registration plates, are obliged to possess motor third party liability international insurance policy valid for the territory of Montenegro which displays international letters “MNE” not crossed out.”

It rained all day yesterday unfortunately ...and with the insurance or lack of fiasco we decided to just drive on towards the Albanian border....headed up to virpazar and then along the south bank of lake skadar ,stopped for the night at livari on a clifftop overlooking the lake ... this morning the lake is covered in cloud making it an eery but beautiful view. There was a sign explaining the concept of a dry stane dyke .... nothing new to a scotsman but as this was the only wall near the sign im not sure they quite grasped the concept themselves 😁 . we had a walk up in to the hills , met some donkeys that decided to follow us ... Nice little croft type houses on the walk up. Main Roads in Montenegro are average but the rest are quite challenging and in poor condition

Coffee stop at the place we were aiming for last night but got dark so we stopped. Kind of glad as the road here was even worse and the say nag got me lost and had to do a 13 point turn on a very steep drop. Jackie did a very impressive 3 point turn where i was looking through my fingers 🤣🤣🤣.

Before we left that other spot she got conned by some chancer in a car who tried to claim the parking was private and he was there to collect money ...i told him to sod off but when i was over taking a photo jackie gave him 10 euros ....so we had a bit of an argument about that as i told her theres lots of chancers in these countries and i expect Albania will have a few to ...it was a public road with parking spots here and there .... nothing private about it and he was just taking advantage...he had driven up in a car and once she gave him money he drove of again ...

In 1981 in our little red Fiat Amigo we drove north from Petrovac intending to skirt Albania and join autoput at Nis. At Zubin Potok we were met by a guard with sub machine gun who reached into cab, grabbed map and drew a massive diversion north back towads Belgrade. So even then there was unrest in what we now know as Kosovo!

That top photo from this morning must be Svetti Stefan.
The tiny island which was originally a fishing village was converted years ago to a very luxurious 5* hotel. All the rooms were in the converted cottages.
Hollywood stars and royalty stayed there in its heyday.
It must have drifted downmarket a bit because Kate and I went there in about the mid eighties and had a wonderful holiday.
In the summer sun it’s an absolutely gorgeous place…….or was back in the day.
I do hope it’s still running as a hotel.

Richard.

That parking scam is common in all countries, we've come across it many times, the cheeky bugger at the,Marina in Ayamonte wears a high vis jacket and waves/points cars into parking spaces, we know it's free to park there but lots don't. He must make a fortune.

At least then the doggies can stretch out on the sofa lol

I'm a bit (BIT!!!) late on this thread but IF by now you haven't got your bed sorted, a Hammock is the obvious answer, all you need is two secure points to attach it??
I will read further, the tension is palpable.....

We had an old woman in a car parking area in Greece, she looked all official we gave 3 euros 😉 she then gave us some 🍇 🙄 bless her. Bob.
That time we met at Nazare, there was a couple of wide boys over the other side of the road charging €4 to park on the waste ground. 😡

Arrived in Albania after the most intimidating border crossing ive encountered. Managed to buy insurance this time ....49 euro for 15 days ... although he initially tried to charge me 89 as he said my van was bigger ...to which i replied no ....no more money.

I paid 49 in the end ......weird country lol ...lots of dogs everywhere , lots of rubbish ..lots of mercs ,lots of scarey looking guys...i got offered €30 from one of them for jackie ....think he was a sex trafficker .

Parked up beside an old mosque at shroder for the night.
