Tam & co the great winter escape

Fresh sweetcorn is OK, tinned yuck.
Tinned sweetcorn is great in a salad.
Love a Spanish salad with white asparagus and quality tinned tuna. (Used to hate tinned tuna until I realised there are varying degrees of quality) in Spain whole Isles are dedicated to the tinned tuna.

I like all sweetcorn tinned or not. In fact I've been known to eat a tin of sweetcorn or peas just as a snack on its own .
That's just reminded me! When I was 17 and on holiday on a campsite for a week with my 'soon to be hubby' he got quite poorly and ended up staying in the tent most of the time and didn't want much to eat, usually just soup or a sarni, as I wasn't overly bothered a combination of eating tinned peas and walking up/down the hill to/from the facilities meant in that short time I lost over a stone so much so that the vast majority of the clothes I had didn't fit anymore! When I got back I only had one pair of jeans that fitted.

Freestyle mainly but starts with a cheep packet of wings and thighs, stock and anything I can Chuck in form the fridge that’s not getting used….

I hate food waste and anything that’s out of date gets chucked in together and fried/roasted or boiled then eaten….😎
I had some smoked salmon the other day which was 4 days out of date I just couldn't bear to chuck it out. I pan fried it though, so it wasn't raw, and I am still here :giggle:

Me too I put it in salads as well as just eating it from a tin.

You get a better view of the fleet with mums puddle jumper gone. On my way back from Tayport the other day Iust have been behind some motor with an oil leak or dodgy engine rings as the front of the euramobil is covered in little black dots of oil😡😡😡 and its not just washing off. I'm gonna have to polish again. It's not coming off mine as I have no leaks at all these days . Engine is bone dry

Ooh I luv a bit of sweetcorn me

I had some for dinner yesterday as it happens View attachment 656748
Sweetcorn season just now so it's delicious. Been getting it in my veg box each week. Homegrown cider glazed turnips, foraged figs and hazelnuts and sausage meat stuffed pork loin wrapped in bacon was pretty tasty too!

which van do you intend to use for this winters trip?
The euramobil. Never intended to do anything with the merc till I get back next spring . I'll have decided by then whether to build it and keep or just tidy it a bit and flip it

Urgent update for those about to rush out and buy chicken noodle soup.....stop press.

I have found a better one ....asda own make chicken noodle with sweetcorn and red pepper. Its thicker, less salty , has more chicken , and sweetcorn ref peppers. Its the same price as the granny's version at £0.50 p per can but it does have a ring pull.

I bought 10 tins 😁

That'll go nicely with the crouton cubes I've just made out of the thick crusts from a bread loaf (hubby would've thrown the crusts if he'd been here at the time) ... Gotta think of more ways to reduce waste, increase usage of left over food bits and save money. 😄

I always thought all the supermarkets branded stuff was pretty much the same as each others.

In other words, ther horrible super market branded soup is available.😁

They are ....for one reason

The asda home brand chicken soup will be made by the same company that makes tesco, m&s , spar etc own brand soup. I know this because when working as a courier we got freebies from buttons biscuits , miller's sweets and a few others. We got the freebies because they didn't pass the strict rules of packaging, if the best before date got stamped anywhere outside the small white box on the packer it failed quality control and got rejected. It was cheaper just to dump it than to repackage. So we got the stuff in the packets ....and they would often have several different brand wrappings but be the same items of the same production line.

Supermarkets rarely make their own brands they are made by big name brands and just packaged with the shop selling its packaging.

Obviously not everything is the same there are different quality grades

I can understand having a small emergency supply but fresh soup is so easy to make - out of nothing really! My favourite “go to” is French Onion with the cheesy crouton floater.

Aye but at 50p a can it's easier and cheaper just to buy it 😁

Some of the fresh soups are ok, never have I seen any tinned soup that was worth eating, hate to think what they add to it anyway, best way is batch cook and make your own
