Tam & co the great winter escape

Has the miserable auld git stopped parking opposite your drive then?

Have fixed the earthing issue . Ive ran a new earth to the chassis and thats solved the problem. Back bumper is back on. Not painted as i think id prefer to get both bumpers and wheel arches done properly and i think it might actually be easier to do them on the van. Besides i want away for a few nights next week. So ive still a few bits to tidy up before i refitt my scooter rack but at least the lights now work. Replacing all the bulbs with led ones too so hopefully they wont need changing again for a while. Also fitting a couple of additional reverse lights for the scooter rack .. just incase

Replacing all the bulbs with led ones
I will be interested in how that goes with the tail/stop bulbs.
The Tail/Stop on my Hymer are very poor, cleaned all terminals and tried new bulbs but still dim.

What are your reflectors like inside the lights? Mine are a bit discoulered so im going to line them with tinfoil . Makes a big difference.

Everything reassembled. New reverse lights fitted on the scooter rack too.

I might get the bumpers resprayed in Portugal when im there. But if not ill do them next year as id like them done right and not ideal spraying them here. .. rear one is hidden with the scooter most of the time anyway.

What about chrome spray you can get it in rattle cans, doesn't come out glossy that they would have you believe but it's not bad.

When I replaced the hab lamps with led's, I lined the outside lamp holder with shiny, sticky backed silver tape (think it might be for joining ac ducting ?) It made a big difference.

Sorry was meaning the ground clearance for the rev lights going up a ramp etc eg like onto ferry :)
Ah got you ...well theres a bit 70x 40 box section thats lower than the lights so that would likely hit the ground before the lights. But hopefully it wont. This isnt too bad for ground clearance compared to the frankia which was really low

I thought you meant to use it on the bumper to 'pimp' his MH. 😆

Note to self, do nots scan read threads! 😊

Been having a poke around in the merc today and i believe I could possibly make an interior work. I even have space for a woodburner 😁 . It makes a difference not having a side door.

Of course that would mean using the passenger door for main access in and out ....at least when there was a motorbike on the back unless i pulled a trailer instead of a rack. But i dunno

Everything is a compromise....its just figuring out what i can live with.

Plenty time to decide.

I love this, I was in the Dutch army in late 80’s but got to drive this king of the road too, petrol engine, no power steering, double clutch gearbox with the gear lever diagonally behind your seat, suspension was out of this world, did glide over bad forestry tracks like a hovercraft, awesome, made in the early 1950’s mostly

The off road ability was unbeatable, if you managed to get this stuck well no hope for you🤷🏻‍♂️, it was so much better as it’s successor off road, the successor was the daf 4440 built in the 80’s

So this is the interior of the vario at present. The bed and rear sofas that are there at present i would keep the same design ... Storage underneath and the centre of the bed flips up to utilise the rear doors. Obviously id make it a little nicer. And id have rear and side access to those storage areas. ...id most likely have to build the electrics in to the lower half of one of them.

The bathroom again is a decent size and after a thorough clean i would re use the existing toilet ,sink and shower tray . Id have to re line the interior walls with plastic and fit a proper shower . And a sliding door instead of the current one to save space. Kitchen again i would salvage the unit and reface it and with the doors sanded and repainted it would look okay ..new worktop and sink .

The sofa opposite the kitchen iwould remove...and my cooker and fridge would go in this area instead. And the woodburner would go in the current vacant space between the rear sofa and the new kitchen area. Top lockers would be added above both kitchen areas aswell as above rear doors . I think it would work.

Maxxair fan above kitchen area and a second one or a boat hatch above the bed. The boat hatch option would allow access to the roof deck .

Looks a good layout, is there any insulation behind those door inserts?
Probably not ...but id be taking all that fake panelling off the walls anyway and doing it with wood instead of plastic.. id insulate the full van while doing it anyway. But i want to get it re mot'd while it has this interior in so its done as class 4 before i rip it to bits. Makes it road legal then for using it while i build it.

What are the bars for on the ceiling?

I believe Morocco is the place for bodywork, cheap and good.
