Tam & co the great winter escape

Just literally pulled up at work , mum phoned . Apparently doctor phoned says infection markers in blood now over 200 so ive to take her to a&e and she's to go in to theatre
That sounds like progress she actually phoned you to tell you what the doctor said.
This system is stupid.

And there are people sitting here with light grazes on knees etc ...have they not heard of bleeding plasters
About time they put heafty charges on time wasters in A&E and 999 calls.

Just waiting for her to be moved to a ward now . And theyve filled her in on the plan . So unfortunately she will be in for quite a while , at least 2 weeks on IV antibiotics , probably a few months of tablet antibiotics. Most likely 2 or 3 operations as they will remove the old knee clean it and refitt while shes here on the antibiotics....but may have to remove again and fit a new one. Will know more about that after surgery but shes going to be in a few weeks regardless so ive now told my sister and brother etc because i cannae do all this myself

She's in the best place Tam, you and siblings aware of the situation. Hope it all goes well for everyone

Hope it all goes well Tam, a nightmare but a bit of a relief rolled in to one as she wasn't really helping herself at home.
I'm just back from my mum's, she behaves well if I take fish and chips round on a Friday!
She's also a good patient to be fare, had a new hip and 2 hernia ops in the last few years but she does follow the doctors advice.

Morning Tam, pleased the doctors are now sorting your Mum out and I hope she gets well soon. Also pleased you have told your sister and brother, you can breath a sigh of relief now. Well done you! Is the hospital far away from you?

I'll tell you a little story just for amusement, as in these situations it can be laugh or scream!

My mother-in-law was going downhill with vascular dementia, symptoms would come and go depending on her circulation - we were in a cycle, go into hospital for a few weeks and get better, come home and over a few weeks get worse, so back into hospital. But her short term memory was constantly bad.

The NHS wouldn't send her letters to either of the "kids" - they all went to her house. So a letter would turn up, Mary would open it, "There's nothing wrong with my heart, what are they on about?" - She'd got a pacemaker by this point but she'd forgotten that - so she'd ring up and cancel the appointment, then leave the letter on top of the fridge and forget about it. Unless it was a long term ailment that she could remember about then this would happen.

One of us would visit - take a sneaky look through the pile of letters - then come back on the day to take her to the appointment, which of course she'd forgotten by then that she'd cancelled! So she'd be all surprised that she had an appointment but would willingly go with us. After a couple of wasted trips we got wise to what was happening and would ring up in advance to check, but NHS systems being what they are they can't reinstate a cancelled appointment - so a new one is generated, which automatically generates a letter, which means she'd phone up and cancel it.............

Tam, one thought with falls, we were getting concerned about mother-in-law - but knew full well that if we suggested extra hand rails etc she "wouldn't want to be any bother". So, deciding that seeking forgiveness was easier than permission, with both the "kids" consent I went round and installed some next to the loo and the bath and put handrails on both sides of the stairs, whilst she was in hospital.

She came home and was a bit miffed but within a couple of days that passed, within a week she was singing the praises of feeling more secure coming down the stairs and getting up in the bathroom. "The hospital advised it" - a white lie but it worked!

One final thought - we had to break into the house one day, as she wasn't responding and she'd left her keys on the inside of the door, so we couldn't get in using our key. It's as well we did, she was in bed and not well, it was an ambulance job. Anyway - to stop her leaving the keys on the inside of the door again, I changed the barrel to one with a thumb turn only on the inside, "for fire safety" - as that was a message we knew she'd accept. I'd just advise to make sure that you've always got a way to get in! We thought we had.......

Your mum is in the best place now and you know for sure she is getting her meds. Hope she recovers soon. I hope your Sis gets to continue with the last few days of her hols. Take care.

Ok well that one is rated f so it should be good then ?

I like the fact it has a lock so it shouldn't swing open.
I used an identical one on the boat in the med over winter and 250 watts of panel kept it going fine. Good little freezer actually.

She seems cheery enough , i was in for a bit today. Still waiting for them to decide on theatre whether they are going to open her knee up clean it and close it or whether they are going to remove it and replace it. Shes on antibiotics meantime

My thoughts are with you Tam. I found out on Friday that my Step dad has to start Chemo again after he was given the all clear. He came over today for his usual Sunday morning bacon sarnie and was having his Chemo on my patio by a drip bandaged to his arm. It was sad to see him become so tired after 2 hours and he had to leave when he normally stays all day.

Boom!!

Another 1/2 stone gone

2 lost in total now 🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳
Well done. If you listen to one podcast about diet and nutrition/weight loss make it this. It's a real eye opener and takes the emphasis off it being your fault that we over eat and goes into the science behind why and which foods cause this. It's basically about ultra processed food and you'll never eat another seafood stick once you've listened to the series.

2 stone ….unbelievable…bloody well done.
