Tam & co the great winter escape

That looks like a good result
That hourly rate is very fair Tam.
Aye its less than i expected. Thing is when he phoned me back he said "are you sitting down " lol ...so i expected way more .

When he said £850 i was like ok what brand clutch and timing belt are you fitting.

When he said Luk and gates i was like yep that will do . As that's what I'd have bought myself.

So he said he would confirm it by email which he has done so thats all good.

Ill get the auxillary belts changed too and ill give it an oil filter and diesel filter change myself aswell as a sump gasket and that should be that.

Might as well let them do everything, so much easier for them🤷🏻‍♂️

Wise move to do all the auxiliary belts, but I'd change the water pump too, for what it costs. Bit of a sod to get in there to change it later.

Im reluctant to pay for things to be done that i can easily do myself. So ill do the basic service things myself as i have other stuff to clean up underneath anyway

Saw this conversion a few days ago

That is a heart not a head project Tam.
Lovely vehicle nice to have but a time and money pit.
Mot and tax excempt 12000 miles and no complicated electrics etc. The way things are going that makes it a vehicle for the future

Speaking of Wiesel, any news/update on the Vario ?
Don't think so still on with that boring old sprinter with grooved boarding!

Driving it would likely be quite a culture shock ! to most people :)
Yeah but having had loads of older motors in the past i know what to expect. Sure it would not be as comfortable as modern day vehicles , but there are ways to make that slightly better , but far simpler to repair and maintain I'd imagine. Anyway buying it at present is unrealistic but still one can dream . I love these old trucks and saw many of them in greece over the last 2 years. Id love one but i think mum would have kittens.

The motorhome is now booked in to have clutch and cambelt done on 8th june .

They were going to do it this Wednesday the 1st but couldn't guarantee theyd finish it in one day and they are closed Thurs Friday Saturday and Sunday for jubilee. So next week is better as they can do one job first and if they dont have time to do second i can stay in it overnight there and they will finish it on the Thursday.

So ill drop my car off up there next Tuesday and take the camper up tuesday night so they have it for first thing wednesday morning. And ill have the car then to bugger off out and leave them to it

This is just up the road from me, I’ve seen it advertised several times locally, looks like he’s had trouble selling it…
Presumably it would need a fuel tanker to follow it around, and maybe in the current climate that is a deterrent to the sale? ;)

But agree, it looks cool! (y)

Quite possibly ..but then the vario was a 4 .25 litre and thats a 5 litre so not a big difference. I never drove the vario any distance so not sure what it was like on fuel. But the euramobil isn't that great probably 22.mpg at best
