Tam & co the great winter escape

Tam a tracker sounds a brilliant idea for both you and Ela. It will definitely give you (and us) peace of mind. Having a dog go missing and not knowing what has become of them is horrendous and soul destroying.
Ela has had such an insecure start to her life there is no telling what miniscule scent, sight or sound could suddenly trigger what appears to us to be totally irrational behaviour.
All you can do is be even more patient, a dog that has grown up in a happy stable home can take months to settle if it has the misfortune of needing rehomed through no fault of it's own. Who amongst us can begin to understand what goes on in Ela's mind?
I lost my female dog years ago. She ran off and I never found her. Even now I cry for her, as I never knew what happened to her, was she run over, was she found and loved by another family (I wish) I will never know. Not worth the risk :heartbreak:

Tam, have you got a long line for Ela? I bought a 20m lunge line for Yoshi for peace of mind. I do t always hold on to it but it gives me something to grab if his recall fail. That's what I did with my boy Stanley (y)

I had one but we lost it ...i have a long rope though that i normally let her run with . But now and then i think she might get better and everytime she proves me wrong. Dont think she will be off the lead again for a while

Dogs can be so unpredictable! Yoshi’s recall is usually great but sometimes out of the blue it’s not! Same with walking to heel on a loose lead he’s great but then all of a sudden he will lunge and pull!

... is it with your charger by any chance?

Did the other dog walker phone you? Does she have a tag on with your mobile number? If not then that would be good too👍
No but i had met them on the way back to the van and had told them id lost her , they then found her and she followed them back .

All the dogs have tags with my number on them 👍

In other news im impressed how good a signal i get on this tv ariel i bought on eBay. I was sceptical but its picked up 107 tv channels and 25 radio channeks

£8 on eBay View attachment 622561
Yes Tam, we have one also, off Ebay about four years ago. Not bad, its only increased in price by £1. A great bit of kit.

Weird isn’t it, when I reached68 I suddenly liked Marmite 😂😂
Now that's impossible, disgusting stuff why would anyone want to eat something that makes your lips swell & gives you a sore tounge.

I've always liked marmite but it used to be very salty and one had to be careful to spread thinly.
Now it can be slaumed on really thickly, I think they have modified the recipe. My late Mum said the same thing......and she was always right, particularly in culinery matters!

Just got back home and i think my clutch has now gone ....so i need to get quotes for that. Mobile place that comes to you has quoted £722 but that seems pricey.

Its finding garages big enough that's the problem.

Clutch replacement on your year of 2.8 is not an easy job, I'd say that was a fair price.
Ensure whoever does it uses a quality clutch assembly and changes all of it.

I thought the ducato 244 models were supposed to be fairly easy to do compared to the 250's

But yeah id prefer a good heavy duty clutch as it is a heavy van . Ive phoned around a few places enquiring but will have to see what they say.

Im also needing the cambelt done but im going to have similar issues i think .

So if anyone on here around can recommend any garages theyve had work done on a bigger vehicle that would be handy as i might not get any of the ones ive tried so far. Some are really busy.

The price of £722 is done here on the drive but not sure what brand of clutch it is

I'm sat at home waiting for the mechanic I use to come round and see if he can bleed my clutch so it can be driven to the garage for repairs. Slave cylinder needed doing when I bought it 8 years ago, Master cylinder went last year and he said that quite often caused the Slave to fail. Not me I thought, it's not as old as the rest of the van ........

Seems he knew what he was talking about :(

Tam, from my own experience of getting an X244 clutch changed - be wary of corrosion on the driveshafts.

Why? When mine was done, I had an oil leak afterwards from one of the driveshaft seals. Took it apart again, seal replaced, damn thing still leaked. The cause was the pitting from what was only normal surface corrosion on the driveshaft - plus perhaps whatever bit of wear on the shaft the old seal had caused - with everything being disturbed, the seal will never sit back in *exactly* the same place. Changed the driveshaft (which was surprisingly cheap though I can't remember how much!) and all was well and has been since - but it was a major PITA to strip it all down 3 times!

Ill bare it in mind . This one is quite clean underneath as very low miles but not looked at the driveshafts so ill have a gander and if rusty ill mention it to whoever is doing the job

Went up on roof today to start lowering the solar panels ....billy bodjit has used rivnuts to fix them and of course hes not done it right 🤦‍♂️ so i cant get the bolts out as the rivnuts are just turning.

So i will have to buy washers and lock nuts and re do the lot. Really not comfortable how they are fitted and paranoid incase they catch the wind.

Its just going to take longer to do them than i had hoped.

Also its looking like the mobile clutch fitting option is going to be my only one as most of the garages have come back saying they can't do it

You should try picked eggs then Lenny....
