Tam & co the great winter escape

My advice is a good protein breakfast, like eggs will set you up for the day, keep carbs low, NO biscuits!! and cut out all sugar, (not easy I know). Not eating after 6pm will really help. Drink plenty of water too!

Believe me, I have tried so many diets, now I am using Purition shakes, with an added banana usually, or something eggy, for breakfast, salad or something with lots of veg (not spuds!) for lunch and a small sandwich at teatime. I keep fruit down to just the one banana and one apple a day, there's lots of sugar in fruit :cautious: I can't exercise at the moment, but at least with this 'diet' I am not putting weight on.

Hopefully you will soon be looking as fit💪 as you did in 2017. good luck!
Yes i think i need an alternative from cereal or toast. I had either eggs or banana last time i think.

Lunch i will change from sandwiches etc to either salad type thing or just some cooked chicken.
I’ve lost two stones in a year of only eating in the afternoon. I eat what I like, so don’t have to do without stuff I like, but lose quicker if I stay of cake! 😃 The trick to not being hungry when you are fasting is to have absolutely nothing that has a taste - so water or black coffee, but no flavoured water or milk, or herb teas etc. As soon as I have a taste my body thinks it’s dinner time, so I’m hungry! No taste, no hunger (after the first day or two). Used to get hungry for about twenty minutes at breakfast time, but that was habit. I love not having to think of diet food, & what’s fattening or not!
Im not sure if i can skip breakfast altogether as i get very light headed in mornings if my blood sugar drops. I passed out at work once and that was there finding. Blood sugar was critically low.

I only drink black coffee these days in fact the only reason i buy milk is for my cereal . Stopped taking sugar years ago but i use sweetener in my coffee.
I was always taught breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, dine like a pauper.
I was always told breakfast is the most important meal of the day but i never ate it for years. Then i collapsed at work one morning and was taken to hospital , blood sugar was critical and after lots of tests and blood tests etc doctor just came to conclusion i was getting older and needed to eat something first thing.

But i managed ok when i dieted last time by just having a boiled egg or banana in morning. So probably try that again

Good luck with healthy eating and exercise regime Tam. It is a hard thing to do but with determination you will get there. I noticed when you and Hazel were visiting Loch Leven you rightly said the Mary Queen of Scots was imprisoned there in 1567 but by the Scottish nobility and not by Queen Elizabeth of England. She was imprisoned for marrying Lord Bothwell who the Scottish nobles thought had murdered Darnley her husband. Elizabeth of England imprisoned Mary at Fotheringhay Castle where she was executed in 1587.

Still gonna give it a coat of hammerite over the top i think just for added protection but turned out alright

Just caught up

Nice job on the bike rack (y)

Regarding weight loss - hit the gym dude.

I'll bet you used to enjoy it? You will again after a few sessions.

PS - About to join one myself again. Another week or so and I should be able to squeeze an hour a day in. Quite looking forward to it (y)

Hmmm im not sure i ever enjoyed it but i did enjoy seeing the difference and felt better. Im going to give it a week or two just cutting down on the food and increasing our walks first then ill go back and hopefully do an hour a day at gym. As i need to tone up stomach muscles etc so i don't end up with baggy skin

You got a good excuse to get out there and exercise Tam with three dogs to walk. Don’t set your weight loss to high. It’s easy to loss a few pounds in a short time but then becomes harder as time goes on.
And comparing your self with what you used to look like is no good, times change and the years go by. As long as your healthy and happy that’s all that matters. Good luck (y)

I think you should cut out sugar in all it’s forms. It’s surprising where it is. Also eat only whole foods pasta rice bread even though that they do contain sugars, a fact that your gut needs to work harder and longer to break them down, leaves you feeling fuller for longer.
If you look back in history, rich folk had all the more expensive refined foods, they got fat and unhealthy. The poor folk had all the whole foods , they remained thin and healthy. ( to a certain degree)
Roll on to 2022 and we all have access to the most delicious light refined sweet food we could ever desire, result we are all getting fat.
Shakes and smoothies are the worst, liquid food that requires the gut to do NO work, spikes your insulin.
If you spike your insulin level your body goes flight or flight, if you do neither it will go to store ( fat laid down) as a younger person you can eat and drink all that excessive sugar as you work/excercise F !!k it away, but as an older person it goes to store.

If you want to look around the subject of sugar, search ‘the truth about sugar"
one example I remember reading was about native Americans ( Indians) who had never been accustomed to sugar, until introduced.
Another search!

Good luck. You can do it though it will be incredibly hard and take a lot of willpower as the human body hates to lose weight and trys to trick you into keeping it by making you think you're starving hungry. My fitness pal is a useful free app that will open your eyes to calorie content in things. A friend of mine has lost about 20kg over the last year or so he's down to 70kg now. Mainly by reducing portion size and avoiding refined carbs like bread, pasta and rice. Protein and fat keep you full longer. Try and get into beans, lentils and chickpeas instead of rice etc.

Walks??

I can't even get her to walk round the garden with it yet lol.

But she's gonna have to get used to it lol... that cost me £60

I think as Carol says start with tbe bags empty. Have Ela on a lead, take a step away, call her to you (with excited, happy voice). Treat for a forward thought! Continue in tiny, incremental steps until she is moving confidently and freely.
I have never used tbese dog packs, I would be concerned about uneven weight distribution, pressure on tbe spine, weight too far back over the loins and the pack slipping but tben where my dogs are concerned I am just a 'worry gut'. Take care Ela, Tam is bigger and stronger than you, it would do him good to carry tbem 😂🤣
