Tam & co the great winter escape

Hi Tam, great following your adventures. Just wondered how you find your spots to stop for a night our two. Is it all on SFS and C4N or google maps.
Trying to get the confidence to find and convince Kim that we will be safe.
Thanks
Don
I tend to mostly use park4night. Sometimes if the spot on there isnt that great ill explore around it on google earth and see if anything nearby. Dont use any other apps.

Ive never had any trouble with places ive parked other than the occasional noisy teenagers or boy racers but thats been rare to be honest. Never felt unsafe and no one has ever approached the van etc....things like the odd barking dog or church bells etc tend not to bother me too much. Not every stop is picturesque but if inside at night it don't matter too much. In 4 years ive only been asked to move less than a half dozen times too. And if asked then i don't argue i just go.

I personally think you are safer in the middle of nowhere , in a forest or a deserted beach than you are in a campsite or Aire etc....so she has nothing to be worried about. I see lots of solo females these days wildcamping in places too. I think the horror stories are few and far between

I've got so used to them , 2cv's, citroen c15's, fiat & seat 5 & 600's , meharis, etc;etc, that I forget that they are collectors cars in the UK
Yes the shitty weather , salt on the roads and the uk approach to pushing new cars instead of keeping old ones has made many a car rare and a classic in the uk. I noticed that in spain , Portugal and in Greece last year that there are literally hundreds of old motors kept going as daily drivers ...they aren't looked upon as classics etc ...just a reliable old car

Lunch stop ... possibly overnight ive not decided yet . It was fun getting to this one lol ...non existent road just a dirt path ....drove through 2 holes in big fences and then you arrive at what looks like an abandoned settlement...not big enough to call a village as only 4 or 5 houses from what i can see and don't look that old either to be honest. But nice secluded bay well out the way . Definitely wouldn't bring a motorhome here but the van made it .

For 12 years we have wildcamped, plus Aires/Stellplatz from the Scottish Highland down through England, all over France Germany, including remote spots in Pyrenees and Alps, Poland. Slowakia and this year down through Austria, Italy to Greece, Peloponnese and Patmos island.

In all that time we only had one incident, by a lake in Slowakia, we had banging in the night, nothing seen - turned out is was the Truma boiler trying to start up!

Tell Kim that low-life are not likely to be driving miles around the countryside in search of the odd MH which has valuables, no Growler alarm and no dogs, when they can find a group of them at campsites and take their pick of the least protected.

As far as apps are concerned we have CC, SFS and P4N, but like Tam we tend to find P4N does us for most purposes, although we have resorted to others occasionally. We just use the free on-line versions, but our data download covers that.

Just get out there and enjoy the wonderful scenic spots that we have enjoyed - - from views over the Cuillins of Skye to beaches in Greece with wonderful fish tavernas. No campsites on most islands, nor most of Greece - just park up, swim and enjoy freedom.

Bon Voyage.

Geoff and Basia(who has never worried)

Now thats adventurous tam ha good one
Is it tidal

Tidal? He is in the Med - nothing tidal East of Straits of Gibraltar- we blocked them with British Gunboats

Only difference in sea levels there is due to atmospheric pressure and is probably +/- 10-20cm all year.

Northernraider Your photos brought back happy memories of our tour of Croatia 11 years ago.
Croatia was made for FLTs. One bit of advice: don’t do as I did and wake up to find that you were camped in a minefield.
Also, watch out for snakes. I would hate for your doggies to get bitten.

Tam does not look like Omar Sharif. Does Jackie look like Julie Christie?

Taking it further does Tam look like Alan Bates - there is a link, so name it.
The only link is a perceived one, he does seem to come across as a bit of a "Babe Magnet";)

Maybe Tam's gone quiet because of some of the comments on what is supposed to be a thread about his travels. I for one enjoy hearing about his journey and seeing the photographs he takes, come back soon.
Not gone quiet just poor internet connection here ...still in same place having a lazy day ...heading to pula tomorrow . Been exploring the few abandoned forts around here but not really photogenic. Its a nice quiet spot though and the sea is like a millpond ...lots of mossies though
