Tam & co the great winter escape

Spent the last hour restoring my headlights. Not overly impressed as the stuff claims to make them like new which it doesn't. But they are better than they were by far.

Tam you have to be cruel to be kind on the headlights mate. It’s looks drastic but works. I used a drill with a adapter on it to hold the sandpaper I use a hose as well wile doing it keeps the sandpaper working better. Be cruel to be kind.

I think once ive polished all the grp at the front ill give it another go. Ive a machine polisher ordered to try and the restore the front and back of the van as its a bit oxidised. Then ill try the headlights again

I used Mothers Mag and Aluminum Polish on my old car, it really made a good job on the cloudy/yellowed headlights.

When I got my Hymer it’s faded all over I got this from a boat friend who said it was great. It really is. Brings back all the luster. And shine.

I used the Holts stuff Tam and was very pleased with the result. It said to use a drill but I was worried about burning the plastic and making a mess so just did it by hand. First pic shows one done and other how they were, second pic is both done

I bought replacement lens as my led lights failed. The replacement was cheap as it was badly scratched. I used wet and dry to polish the scratch out. I used fairly corse and then finer, i finished with 2000 grit and now its impossible to see the scratches. Good luck.

I started with 2000, then 3000 then 5000 then the plastic polish. They are a lot better but not perfect.. the LHS is better than the right.

He will ta

He will take my advice and fit decent ones.
They work fine 😉 batteries are fully charged each day. Ive been running drills, jigsaw ,hoover and sander off the van today lol aswell as the fridge 24/7

Yer but doesn't give full info on ah used state of charge can't set the Peukert exponent or charge efficency to get accurate results.

So what should he fit?
I tend not to bother to much with battery condition, in 15 years in the same van, we are on our second set and it just works
Victron BMV712 or Smart Shunt not cheap but do the job properly.

If id been doing the vario it would have all been Victron . But everything in this seems to work so far so as long as it continues I'm just leaving it as is. I use about 50ah from one bank each day and 10 or 15 from the other but both are back up to full capacity each day so it all seems to be working fine as it is.

Im just tidying up all the other bits snd pieces now. Biggest challenge is getting the rear end looking good after bodjit bills bolts and light bars

Looks like you got some laquer peel on the rear bumper ?
Are you getting the rattle cans out ?
Yeah theres laquer peel on both bumpers and the front wheel arches. Might get them painted again like i had done on the hymer

Just had the mother of all time wasters look at the caravan. Older couple 90 minutes they spent . Said they loved it , negotiated a price , gave me their life story. Then said they hadn't any cash to leave a deposit. Took my bank details to transfer a deposit when home.

20 minutes later the wife text saying husband changed his mind 🙄

Replied telling them i knew they were wasters when they claimed not to have a deposit with them.

Must lead very sad boring lifes if looking at caravans is how they pass the time

I don't suppose anyone has a set of fridge vent covers lying around gathering dust that they never use? The previous owner of my fine chariot ..we will call him bodjit bill for now has changed the 3 way fridge to a 240v only fridge....which in itself is good BUT he has left the 2 gaping vents in the side of the van which are not blanked off and they don't half let a draught in. I never used the winter covers on any of my vans as i felt they reduced fridge performance so they just lived under a bench somewhere but theres none with this van.
And I always prided myself on being a tight Yorkshire wad, but Tam, you take the biscuit!

I am at bergues at the moment no lights on but the vodkas is flowing so I think my lights will go out first

Give our love to Bergues in the morning on your quick dash past the geese, through the arch for morning croissant.
