Tam & co the great winter escape

Arrived in theiu around 2.30. Filled up with diesel before stopping. Its €1.82 here so around £1.50 . €90 to fill compared to €110 in Germany. 350 -360 miles to a tank I've averaged on this trip.

Its 19° here ...there are dutch sunbathing topless by the canal . Several vans here and a few with dogs so im actually going to move round the corner to a carpark with no other vans.

According to google its 2 hours 6 minutes from here to calais so that means its really at least 3.5 hours so i should do that in plenty time tomorrow.

It’s been good following your trip despite the weather this year. You will be arriving back to glorious sunshine in Scotland though. A friend is on holiday in Edinburgh and has just sent some photos, wall to wall sunshine.

I’m not surprised that German vet made you cringe, he’s definitely not “woke”.

I had a patient from Glasgow, it was years before I could understand him. His wife, who was from the borders had to translate. Fortunately we could laugh about it and he’d laugh at my West Country accent. The sicker he was the harder it was so that in itself was handy.

Yeah the weather was nothing like last year sadly. It wasn't all bad thankfully and over the worst months i still think it was Better than it was at home. The last month to 6 weeks has been cold but pretty dry. Ive not had much rain. But roughing it in this van has been hard, im used to better so whilst its done well i won't miss it when its sold.

Hopefully the vario or caravan have not developed any issues while ive been gone. The first challenge will be getting myself a diesel estate car or small van to use for work when i go back. The prices have gone silly for 10-15 year old cars.

The German vet was definitely strange, but that's the cheapest ive ever paid for the dogs worm tablets . Last year i got charged €76 in france for 2 dogs . Its normally €40 -50 , but €24 for all 3 dogs considering ela needs 2 tablets is very cheap. So i will use him again even if he does have some strange ideas.

Oh and a wee favour, can someone please remind me on Wednesday to pay that dartford toll. It goes straight out my mind as soon as I've passed thr bloody thing
I've set it up to automatically be paid from one of my credit cards - we used to have a 'credit' account where you paid a minimum of £10 in and it just deducted the cost of the crossing each time you went through with a discount for doing so, but with us not going for so long I closed that account and got the remaining funds returned then just opened a new account only paying after we've used it, it costs a bit more but at least we don't get the nagging emails when it goes below £10 wanting us to top up again!

Why not pay now, you can pay up to 12 months in advance.

Unless you’ve somehow removed yourself, you are still on my account.

I wouldn't know how to ...but that's handy. I'll pm you and arrange to reimburse you.
Nah, absolutely no need. Once again, I’ve very much enjoyed the thread, and the dogs, (on the VERY RARE occasions we are allowed to see pictures of them…) are a source of joy.
Mind you, many more Renaults and I would have changed my mind!

Safe travels

Make sure you have the right registration number for Northernraider and it's not his last motorhome, we do the same using our lovely friends account, after they shut ours for lack of use, even though even when we lived in the UK we never used the crossing more than twice a year. 🙄 Bob.

Well im at calais and im going on the 13.15 boat ... Totally different from the tunnel , they never checked dogs passports or chips ,just gave me a pet sticker to stick on windscreen and that was that , straight through both passport controls and right in to the lane. About to board now. So i will get a fair bit towards home today.

Thanks Bob, I’ve double checked.
