Tam & co the great winter escape

We finally did manage to find somewhere to park although i might well get a ticket as i couldn't understand the signs ...but a 10 minute walk to the old town through another park. Bucharest seems a lovely city if you like city breaks but its very very big and its very busy ...the lanes on the roads are scary some are 5 and 6 lanes wide in both directions and the locals are not forgiving. There are some very large beautiful parks all around the city . A lot of very impressive buildings too ...we only spent an hour or so walking about ss dogs don't really like the noise and bustle
Everything is well spread out , its around 4 miles between the palace parliament and the arch de triump which i never did find ...this is why i want to carry a motorbike on the vario .

We are on the outskirts now at another large park having lunch ..View attachment 588521View attachment 588522View attachment 588523View attachment 588524View attachment 588525View attachment 588526View attachment 588527View attachment 588528View attachment 588529View attachment 588530View attachment 588531View attachment 588532View attachment 588533View attachment 588534View attachment 588535View attachment 588536View attachment 588537

Thanks for the photos Tam.

Having seen those it will save me from having to go into Bucharest, if I ever stray into Romania.

But I am looking forward to your getting into the mountains.

To be fair the pics don't do it justice. For a city its quite nice. I think for a weekend city break or something in spring summer it would be quite pretty especially the parks.but not that camper friendly and not fun to drive in

I wouldn't have bothered taking a pic of it if there wasn't lol
We often take pics of info signs in foreign language so we can translate them later. Only problem is we never get around to doing it.

Stopped in this wee town campina ...there was supposed to be an interesting building here but it must be a secret as theyve hidden it behind a huge big fence. The 10 minute walk to it from the carpark was another guantlet of aggressive barking dogs ...to the point every local on the street was staring at us there and back ... every house has a dog in the garden that barks and bounces off the fence when you go past ...its a bloody joke .

Planning to visit castle peles tomorrow, hopefully the free parking spot ive found near it is suitable because so far the park4night locations in Romania have been shit.

You also look for places just to stop at, not on any radar.
Has that been a problem also?

Tam do you ever sit down have a coffee or a beer and watch the world go by. You always appear to move at speed, Bucharest looks a beautiful city. Truth be told I used to do the same until I realised to slow down and enjoy my surroundings. Not a criticism just an observation

Transfagarasan Pass is an amazing drive. Jeremy Clarkson rated it the best drive of his life.
I also recommend the eight UNESCO-listed painted churches and monasteries in Bukovina, in northeastern Romania.
And, The Merry Cemetery (Cimitirul Vesel) in Săpânța village, Maramureș county.

I do when its warm sunny and theres places outside to sit ...with 3 dogs it isn't always a relaxing experience.

Big cities tend to be noisy and busy so i don't hang around them much . I get bored when i run out of things to see. I think its different if theres 2 of you

I will look them up

It depends how far east they are though

Well what a difference as soon as you pass the town of breaza ....then Romania becomes much more beautiful , the houses change , the scenery changes ...it becomes more like the alpine areas and north italy etc . Im now in sinaia ...going to hike through the forest to see castle peles , theres snow on the ground but thankfully not too much ...this place im parked theres a couple sleeping in a small tent 😱

Yeah thats why im not going too far east 🤣
Not sure how close you are following the news, and many on here will probably agree with me. Time to head west young man. Crossing borders may become a laborious process. Better to be safe than sorry.

Im not leaving Romania till 8th march unless the government advise to do so.

I've just had my mum on the phone saying the same but really it isn't anywhere near me and i don't see how it should affect me . For now i will just play it by ear.

It might affect you as was shown on the News this morning, that thousands are fleeing the Capital and also heading West so you might have a lot of company crossing any Western borders? Give yourself plenty of time!

Live pictures showed that the roads out were absolutely gridlocked and nothing was moving.

Also reports of a Ukrainian jet getting downed over Romania..

Didn't someone say a few days ago that you would only encounter snow in the high mountain passes
What can i say i seem to have a gift for finding it ...-9 overnight here it seems ...but its on my way to castle bran which is one of my highlights of romania. There's no more snow forecast at least so thats not too bad

The van's camouflage is coming into its own now. If you can find a small river about a metre deep that is surrounded by snow on both banks. Then park in it. Even Putins finest wont find you
