Tam and Toby ~~ Hunting Zorba .....Take two.

Tam, if you need a bit more kip when you get off the boat go to the parking at the booking office, you should be ok there at that time of day. If not then out of the entrance, turn left into the town and there are a couple of parking places there, should be quiet on Sunday morning.

Wasn't enough well frozen stuff in the freezer then. You properly freeze things rock solid at home, preferably in oblong containers to fit the fridge (2-L ice cream plastic tubs are about the right size even if it's only an inch deep on the bottom of it), then tip em out and double wrap in a mile of clingfilm, so you stack everything up neatly in the freezer; failing which you stock up at a handy supermarket with eg pre-frozen veg, eg peas are good cos you can mould them around odd shaped stuff. Our Dometic f/f goes onto 12v as we come from home down to departure point and even if we have a night on the aire at Canterbury, or parked at a mway services for loo and coffee, or whilst actually on the dock, prior to loading, engine off and straight onto gas.

That all makes sense but apart from the cling film we do most of that anyway. All the food is frozen rock hard in the home freezer. The Dometic is put on a couple of days before we leave so its nice and cold before we load up. We keep it on gas all of the time because that keeps it colder and as our mains electric side has failed, again! Most commercial wrapping is removed and put in bags with all the air excluded so everything is tightly packed in with as little space as possible. Next time we travel we will leave the gas on whilst on the ferry as that seems to be what most do but which we didn't on our first Santander trip.

You can only do that if on an open deck and they allow you to otherwise is is against maritime law. You wouldn't want to be responsible for blowing up a ferry, lots of nasty fumes on a car deck.

Feeling sorry for all you poor sods back in blighty ....looks like another full lockdown coming ..

God knows what state the country and indeed the world is going to be in at the end of this ......if it ever ends

im feeling sorry for me too 🤕 , I broke down before you , you’ve managed back home , repair MH & about to cross to Greece, my MH is still in France , 8 weeks later now allegedly fixed , I’m waiting for flights to go get it , CV is going to making it more difficult , your thread is keeping me sane , thank you as I know it takes a bit of work , safe crossing 👍

I was just wondering what had happened to it. Is Fiat Camper Assist paying for your flight?

THIS is more like it .....i know ive never been on mainland greece before and only a couple of the islands ...but to me anyway theres something about it that just lets you know you've arrived ....like Spain i think its the terrain ....or the atmosphere or just something i can't quite put my finger on ...but they are different ...they stand out
I find most of Europe to be a bit sameish ...like if you didnt hear the language or see the signs around you could in most places think you were in the same country. But ive never found that with spain or the greek isles .....its my thought anyway , others may not agree.

Anyway i couldn't get a kip in the carpark at igoumenitsa either so gave up and drove down the coast a bit and found this little cove ..... there's about 5 or 6 small german homebuilds parked up here ..has a bit of a hippy feel to it but its stunningly beautiful.

The water is warm , the Germans are friendly ..... perfect

Oh my so envious . Absolutely love Greece but not been since 2008 with the van . Am afraid to go back after several trips before 2008 as it might have changed because it seems more people going in their vans . Was so quiet and peaceful without an influx of vans . Will be interesting to see how it goes with you now :-) Enjoy

Nope, I find directly I cross a boarder I know I'm in a different country, architecture, landscape, etc.

I know what country I’m in just by looking at the majority of trucks,
Holland DAFs
Germany Mercs
Austria MANs
Italy IVECOs
France Renaults and Volvos
Belgium usually a mixture but mainly DAFs And Scanias
And most countries have a peppering of Volvos and Scanias but they are not the main truck.

I have to rely on the nav on sundays! Just as I’m passing every services and truckstop rammed to the rafters full of trucks with their sat dishes hanging on the mirrors and all their washing drying out and all usually in groups having the craic and summat cooking👍👍 what a life, not a vast difference in driving a Moho about only we choose the destinations👍

Welcome Tam.

Well it did not take you long to find your feet, and your cove - told you it would be easy.

Water is usually warm now at end of long summer (I recorded 21C in water on 31st Oct). Are you going to display your Adonis figure on the way for a swim?

Have good lunch and a kip.

From a 'more then jealous' Geoff

Tam

Was looking at your map and spotted Patras. Do not leave the MH unattended anywhere in Patras, even for shopping, as there have been lots of incidents with immigrants - frequently reported in the Greek press.

If you want to keep up with Greek news, e.g. for checking lockdown areas, there is an English daily newspaper online at

ekathimerini.com

You may know this already.
