Hi Tam, just a bit of ferry info for you, we have used the Superfast Ferry from Bari to Igoumenitsa and can recommend it for the dogs. Camping on board finishes 31st October and there is a sailing on that date if you get down there in time but after that you have the option of leaving the dogs in the van but you have to go up on deck, it is a night sailing ( about 9hrs ) arriving around 6.30am, good vessel and friendly crew so if you are confident for the dogs to spend that time alone it could be an option for you. They do have kennels on board if leaving them in the van is not acceptable. Have a look at the SuperFast Ferry site for current details but you can also book thru Viamare ( maybe discount thru them ) Good luck.

Thanks for that ...looking on their website i get €291 for travelling on 31st october camping on deck. ...which is about £265 which isnt bad. From my last ferry experience i think id prefer 9 hour crossing than 25 hour thats for sure .
But it is 800 and odd km to get there in 11 days ...which i suppose really is only 50-60 miles travelling per day ...but id try and visit a few places of interest en route

Ive saved the quote at the minute as the guy from viamare is meant to call me back

Stopped here for tonight

Fuel prices differ as to whether you pay by cash or card and attendant or self service.

Just to upset some of you, diesel is 0.83p per ltr here in Poland at Shell across the road.

Unfortunately I filled up a few weeks ago at 0.86p, but I wanted to get the tank full for winter to avoid condensation.

I did the Bari to Igamounitsa and it was great...so great in fact that I wouldnt worry about doing Ancona to Petras Even though a lot longer as crossing was so smooth....different with dogs I suppose but you could always lob them overboard if they become too troublesome...😊

Why packed in so tight on an empty boat? And how come not out on deck ?

They load up Motorhomes first, on the outside, sea view, lanes, and according to your departure destination
Then pack the centre with lorries, really tight, only inches between them, lots of shouting , STOP.
Often have to reverse out if your going to first stop, Igoumenitsa
Very envious, didn’t get to Greece this year.

I think that pic was taken early in the loading or late in unloading Tam, that route is always busy with HGV's all year round. On the Superfast 1 you will be loaded to the upper deck and the rear portion is covered, there is a dog walking area and dog toilet at the rear, if you are " camping on deck " you will get an electronic key for lift access to the upper decks ( bar, cafe etc ) When you go up the ramp from dockside you will be directed to a rather steep ramp on board to take you to the upper vehicle deck, just watch out for your overhang at this point although the loadmaster is very good, they will put boards under your rear wheels if necessary.

I forgot to say, you can plug in to the leccie too, just ask one of the deckies to show you where. When you disembark at Igoumenitsa you can get a couple of hours kip in the car park outside the main booking office, no one will bother you there.

Think its a Greek thing.Did Corfu Igomista a few years ago in a car. They insisted i parked not 3 inches away from next car,,Ferry was half empty. When we docked you had to wait for the lane next to yours to drive off before you could get into your car,,BUSBY.

So what is the current situation regarding covid ?

Im trying to find info online but its a pain finding up to date stuff

And do i have to do anything with dogs?!

Great thread. Thanks for sharing it. Giving us lots of ideas for next Spring

Currently the Greece situation is that all arrivals by sea are subject to random PCR test on arrival, positive result will require quarantine and second test after 5 days. All the covid regs are scheduled for revision 25th October. I think they are using the new test with results given in about 20mins ( bit faster than the Germans eh ! )

So i dont need any tests before boarding? And wont be refused entry?
Dont want to book and pay for ferry to get turned away

Currently that is the situation Tam, you might be subject to random test once you have disembarked but that is the chance you take, but you will not be refused entry. Probable temperature check at Bari check in.
