Tam and Toby ~~ Hunting Zorba .....Take two.

Looking forward to your remaining tour of Italy definitely on the cards for next year (y)
This north east part id definitely recommend , i wasnt so keen on the north west i did last year ....will see what the rest further south is like although ill be moving quicker than i normally like due to the ferry booking

Managed to fill up with diesel today at €,1.22 L. Which is very good for italy ....its varied from that to €1.56 in some stations within a 10 mile stretch.

Now at lidl for some supplies.
And i could do with finding a launderette today ...im in Udine now ... probably stay here tonight and head for venice tomorrow.

Granted i was in a resort at the end of October so we didn't see all of it ...i hired a jeep and drove up to the hills etc but i didnt think it was as nice as zante ....

Will see how i get on with mainland

Which end of Crete? West is lush and fertile, East is quite barren and if the resort was Aghios Nickolaos I am not surprised.

I am glad you have a ferry to Greece sorted. We must have a photo of your arrival please, since it has been a year and a half in the making.

I cant remember which part we were at .....it was an odd holiday as i was there with my ex partner ....it was a sort of make or break holiday and it ended up with the break .
We split up 2 days after getting home

Tam just looking at the other site, do you really do all the various routes it shows, or does it guess and add the lines.
Such as this today

It's the sleep walking, nice to have a record though :roflmto: :roflmto:
It goes a bit mental ...i was parked by the river then i crossed the river stopped at a parking place to speak with the guy from viamare...then drove south stopped at a petrol station then continued to Udine ...thats it

So ive no idea what all those lines are about there should only be 3 really

The circle showing photos is where i patked last night , the dot at gemona eas the carpark i stopped to speak to viamare. Then ossopa was the petrol station ...the other lines ive no idea what those are

I believe that the app only uses basic positioning software [from the mobile masts] in order to save the battery power used by gps - hence your location pings about a bit, then the app joins up all the dots.

I used Polarsteps in Iceland and changed to high accuracy location... you could see it following the road... but it chewed up the battery.

I followed that link thinking it would be an easy system direct to camping all inclusive but again its a webpage with so many choices i haven't a clue what you tick

I absolutely hate these online booking systems far too confusing

And this guy from viamare does not seem very keen for business

I left 2 messages yesterday none were returned
I finally got him on the phone and was told he was just popping out the office coukd he call me back in 30 minutes ....never called

And again this morning its just answering service again

Its a joke
If the Anek website doesn’t play ball I often end up ringing the office and making the booking over the phone.
Looks like you’re sorted now though.

With Anek and Minoan all the camping decks are enclosed. Superfast have a few ships with an open camping deck at the rear but you can also get shoved under cover too if you're unlucky.
Its also worth pointing out that you're not guaranteed a spot at the side overlooking the sea, especially if the boat is busy, you can end up in the middle of the boat.

Pete
We have only once been on the outside, usually we get stuck in the middle

Maybe that’s why you don’t have fond memories of Crete?

I always presumed it was dog walking when you parked up.

Well that might have prejudiced your view.

We parked by a cemetery in Sintra last night. Very quiet apart from the rain which was heavy enough to wake the dead!

That brings back memories Tam ... when I was at Uni I picked up Italian as my 3rd language and au paired for 3 months ... 1 month at the Granny’s flat in San Remo, 2nd month at the family ancestral home in Pavia di Udine (yes, he was a Duce, though they were a normal family with a wood business) and final month in Borgosesia. My memories of Udine are all the local ancestral homes of friends of the family and a resident bee keeper!
