I see you caught the Italians off guard... they thought you'd be in Austria for a while and didn't get time to hide .We had a wee walk around town before having some lunch ....i have to say its so much more pleasant walking around in the sun ...its a beautiful day today ...snow on the hills in the distance but blue skies and warm sunshine ...
Italy seems very mask conscious with most people wearing them while walking in town ....nice little market with lots of interesting stuff ...i nearly bought an old spinning wheel for mum as she loves things like that but thought i better ask her first and she decided she had nowhere to put it ....im kinda of glad as im not sure i did either View attachment 434268View attachment 434269View attachment 434270View attachment 434271View attachment 434272View attachment 434273View attachment 434274View attachment 434275View attachment 434276View attachment 434277View attachment 434278View attachment 434279View attachment 434280View attachment 434281View attachment 434282View attachment 434283View attachment 434284View attachment 434286
Yes because of issues with Slovenia i didnt see the point in going further east in Austria so i just went the quickest route..I see you caught the Italians off guard... they thought you'd be in Austria for a while and didn't get time to hide .
did you miss out Salzburg and surrounding areas completely?
Deep fried I hope? We Scots have a reputation to maintain !View attachment 434375View attachment 434374

I am catching up on the thread and enjoying it and hope to be helpful but you may have already committed to your plans. We have spent quite some time in Austria in a van weighing 4500Kgs when we had our Savannah. We loosely followed the Danube from source to Vienna then went south and circled back around through Carinthia. We had no trouble with the authorities but travel was from time to time very worrying as out of nowhere with no warning the Sat Nav would be alerting weight limits of 3500 Kgs and then there would be signs to that effect as well with no way to avoid them. We ploughed on on most occasions without any issues and many of these supposedly weight limited roads had HGV's on them. We never had a Go Box and never went on any Motorways and did love Austria. The scenery and towns and villages are fabulous as was the lake swimming but it was summer when we were there. I would avoid Vienna as the traffic was horrendous but the architecture was very impressive.Although im at least a week ( possibly 10 days ) away from entering Austria I'm getting increasingly nervous about it.
I've been googling regarding the till system and the go box for vehicles over 3.5tonne. it seems an absolute headache ...I've seen umpteen posts online from people having difficulty getting the boxes and then others saying the minimum payment on it is €100 even if you don't intend to use toll roads ...and then a hassle finding somewhere when exiting Austria to get a refund on the box etc ....can folk that have done Austria and Slovenia ( similar system and aggro apparently ) shed light on this please.
I'd like to see a bit of Austria maybe spend a week there but I don't want to use motorways I want to see the mountains and the villages etc ...but reluctant to throw €100 down the toilet.
OK...i got an email and it looks like a scam to me but I'd like second opinions
Given the fact I was here in Germany on the date given and that I was parked up in trier from the 3rd to the 7th without moving I couldn't have been in a restricted area.
But very weird View attachment 433082
Told you it was easy to get though Austria without using the Autobhans.
The Italian alps are loverly.
enjoying your thread as always.Yes because of issues with Slovenia i didnt see the point in going further east in Austria so i just went the quickest route..
Our first dog found a rotten fish in a carrier bag in some bushes and promptly rolled in it - it was the worst smell ever and I had to drive home with all the car windows open and my head half out of the window...It was aye until jade decided to roll in a dead thing .....she is absolutely stinking
Took 3 buckets of water to get her washed and rinsed
enjoying your thread as always.
Just reading on a German forum where a poster has said his site on the Adriatic has closed today and owner said government instructions to close sites and parking spaces from today because of worsening figures. Not sure what parking spaces means as was in translation.News tonight said more restrictions been imposed in Italy so watch for updates maybe before moving south or dash to Greek ferry might be on cards.
It's not necessary to put the dogs in kennels if you do camping on board with ANEK. You and the dogs overnight in your own van on the open deck part of the ship. Camping on board with Minoan is different and they insist you stay in a cabin. If in any doubt or having problems booking on line call Viamare http://www.viamare.com/ - they're very good.I
Yeah im trying to find that at the minute ...im having difficulty with the dog part though as for some reason i can camp in motorhome on deck but its putting dogs in kenel ....cant find a way to change it
“We are now breaking off our trip to Italy and heading home”. So I presume he is there but it could have been his next destination but I think not. He says there is more than 10,000 cases a day so seems it’s Italy. Site comes through chrome so translations not always accurate so government could mean local authority , or central .Which country on the Adriatic? About six to choose from.
I havent ruled out croatia ...i may yet just drive through the wee bit of Slovenia between italy and croatia .I still think you should have gone down through Slovenia and Croatia, less cases there and no problems about ferries..
Where is the info that you can’t get through..? I haven’t seen anything..I havent ruled out croatia ...i may yet just drive through the wee bit of Slovenia between italy and croatia .
Ive not decided what to do yet ....i cant get through Bosnia Montenegro and albania in to greece apparently so i may just visit a bit of croatia then come back in to Italy....
I dont know yet
Slovenia states that they will allow transit only through country unless providing a neg test done within 72 hours .Where is the info that you can’t get through..? I haven’t seen anything..
Possibly but its a long detour and no guarantee things wont change there too so im not sure i want to get stuck in one of those unable to get out again. Is it possible to go through Hungary, Romania and Bulgaria to get to Greece?
I wouldn't be worried about rising levels in any country as it's personal behaviour that will keep you safe but in terms of a successful trip and avoiding having to come home early or having limiting restrictions placed on you I think it's worth looking at what the governments are saying in those countries so France, Spain and Portugal have all said they will not do another national lockdown only local restrictions and those are mainly in large cities so won't affect a motorhomer. Also the risk with going further afield by ferry is that if things do get shut down you have potentially wasted the cost of the ferry if you have to return straight away.Problem is covid is once again on the rise everywhere so it doesn't matter which country you are in ...you just have to do your best to social distance and take every possible prevention .
Latest figures its still higher in the uk than here and while the FCO are advising against all but essential travel they do also state if you are already here they aren't advising to leave ..
Definitely from when i entered italy yesterday the mask wearing is much more apparent. View attachment 434493View attachment 434494
So i can only carry on doing what im doing and while keeping aware of the situation im trying not to dwell on it as im not letting fear take hold ....im still not in bars, restaurants etc and i avoid big crowded cities preferring smaller places ...im now also wearing my face covering when walking about places if theres a lot of people about.
It does feel a little different to other trips as there are not as many motorhomes about but there are still quite a few ...just not many brits.
Yep i will do at some point .As The Dudess says Viamare are the absolute best when it comes to booking Greek ferries. They deal with all the Greek ferry lines and they will always get you the best deal & advise things like joining the shipping lines club to get another 10% off etc.
Best to phone them first (they have a London office) then they will send you loads of options & prices via email.
Yes thats one of my hesitations at present regarding greece ....im still deciding whether its wise to push ahead with that or postpone greece till another time.I wouldn't be worried about rising levels in any country as it's personal behaviour that will keep you safe but in terms of a successful trip and avoiding having to come home early or having limiting restrictions placed on you I think it's worth looking at what the governments are saying in those countries so France, Spain and Portugal have all said they will not do another national lockdown only local restrictions and those are mainly in large cities so won't affect a motorhomer. We were meant to be going to Morocco but won't risk that now.
