How about a few paving slabs just don't tell your mum

Boy this gets expensive .

So the fee to dvsa was £91 the lane fee to the testing station £42 ...once i find heavy stuff to put in the van i can get a voluntary brake test ...thats £10 plus vat per axle

Then it needs a retest within 14 days ....thats £59.60 😱

I pay £40 for a normal class 4 mot with a free retest within 14 days.

Its bloody ridiculous
I just love it when you rant about spending money! Any body would think you were from Yorkshire :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO::giggler:

Any crane companies near you, they have concrete blocks of various weights, just a thought.

Actually thats what im doing lol ...the guy who works in the shop i deliver for has 40 2x3 slabs in his garden not laid ... according to this chart they are between 50 and 70kg each

so 15 or 20 of those should do the trick i think

Well that will :swear2: your back.

So did it fail because the brakes were too efficient?
Any mention of the wipers?

I guess they would say they need more space, bigger equipment, maybe more things to check, maybe different tools, more highly trained operatives, more costly insurance, blah, blah. But yes,a lot of dosh, good job you’re loaded ;)

Aye im not looking forward to lugging them in there but needs must.

No it failed because the rear brakes wouldn't lock up ....load sensing valve wont activate if not enough weight so not enough pressure goes to the rear brakes. Does make me wonder how they class this ss dangerous but any unladen panel van is the same as this🤷🏻‍♂️

He never mentioned the wipers even though he had to put them on 3 times to get them parked at bottom lol.

Fortunately the retest only checks what it failed on so as long as the brakes work we are good to go .

Once ive loaded the slabs in it tomorrow i can just drive up there and pay for the voluntary brake test at £10 +vat and ill know then if its enough to get it passed ...if its still not enough then ill have to take wheels off and make sure all the discs are clean , pads ok , calipers sliding etc ...but he does reckon its just because theres no weight on it.
No back doors so the can't use a load simulator
Yeah thats the issue or i could have got a few truck wheels lifted in the back with forklift . Just wish id known before and it would have saved me a bit of cash.
But at least when its done i wont have to worry about that again as next test will be class 4

For those of a technical disposition ...heres the in depth brake test and figures .

I should also give credit where due both the ladies i dealt with today in dvsa Swansea were great ... couldn't be more helpful and had a bit banter etc ...also great proper welsh accents.

And the woman at aj Nelson that sorted mot test etc also very friendly, supportive and helpful .. all very pleasant to deal with which is always nice

We deal with DVLA quite a bit, trying to get numbers for old tractors and that, and it can take ages to get anything by post but if you ring in they always seem to be doing the best they can, and if you persavere and get the actual person dealing with it you soon get it sorted.

...load sensing valve wont activate if not enough weight so not enough pressure goes to the rear brakes.
Or you could adjust the load sensor if at all possible to allow more pressure to the rear.
Or if not possible use a small clamp to keep the load sensing valve fully open
or , as I did when i had moisture in the brake fluid & it tends to rust up the load sensing valve . Whilst awaiting new one & fitting it I ust dismantled the LS valve & took the guts out. Then when the new valve arrived I fitted it 3 years later:giggle:(y)

Yeah i have to say the HGV tech guys and the technical advisors all seem on the ball ...quick responses to emails etc and the woman from dvsa Andrea i spoke to at 5.25 last night who told me she would get back to me today phoned at 08.10 this morning 😁 hopefully they are as helpful when i get to the next stage of sending in the v5 ...because its now no longer a 28 seat minibus so im curious what they will put as body type . Its now effectively a van with side windows which is what they now register most self build campers as 😁

I still have the full v5 here as the previous keeper just left the whole document with the paperwork. I was waiting till mot was done before i registered it in my name

I don't want to mess around with that as once its got an interior in it i reckon it will be fine anyway ...but i do wonder if they are still testing it on the bus weights and not the van weights as theres no way this thing weighs 4950kg at the minute which is what it says on that brake test sheet.

Its about a tonne lighter than that

Ok dokey well i loaded 14 qty 3x2 slabs in to the boot of the bus and took it back up to aj nelson in kelty this morning to do a brake test. This is a service they provide outside an mot so you can check brakes etc ... So we ran it on the rollers and it failed the first time 3% under the requirement ...the auld mechanic went under to check the discs and pads etc but said everything looked fine. But also said the load sensor valve didnt look that old and said he could adjust that up a bit for me if i wanted. So we did that ... back on rollers ...failed 1% under ....back under adjusted valve some more ...back on rollers 1% over ....back under adjusted valve some more and back on rollers again and now 8% over requirement so its all good to go ....retest tomorrow at 11.45 and should pass now .

Very helpful mechanic went the extra mile to get it sorted for me so im gonna take them in some sweets or biscuits tomorrow when i go back for its retest.

The dvsa tester guy is only there monday Wednesday and friday

The more i drive it though the more i like it ....it really is a big tank of a van.

Bloody tight-arsed Scot - £10 test and the extra mile? If it passes, Give them a bottle of single malt!:giggle: With my compliments, for bullying you.

I thought some biscuits was rather generous for an FLT, so I don’t know why Lenny is laughing :)
It is considering the mot has cost a total of £230 lol with not a single part fitted. Thank god its a one of ...next year it will be £40

The guy i borrowed the slabs from didn't want them back so i stuck them on gumtree available from 1pm tomorrow free to collect lol ...ive had about 15 people saying they want them ...must be a shortage out there lol.
So hopefully gone tomorrow and that bodykit will be off by sunday 😁

Go for it mate I know what you mean. Free is like a 🐝 to a 🌸 but they have to turn up 👀

You could have placed them like ramps so you could get the bus/van up higher to work underneath.
