DVLA were useless before covid and are even worse now they have this as an excuse ....25 minutes on hold for tax enquiry...then some richard answers and as soon as i said the word minibus he rabbled something about not dealing with minibus and transfering me and talked right over me trying to tell him the point of my call was because its no longer a bloody minibus ...ive now been on hold another 32 minutes waiting to find whatever wrong department he's transferred me to

Basically i have to sorn or tax this but its down as a 30 seat bus on v5 and an HGV van on mot .... therefore i cant tax it without something being changed mainly the taxation class which you cant do online only at a DVLA local office which no longer exsists but website says postal applications can take 6 -8 weeks ...and they tax it from the start date you put on application ...so for example if i put april 1st for tax start date and it doesn't get processed for 6 weeks theyve had 6 weeks tax for nowt.

They haven't a clue .

Dvsa ....totally different ...they couldn't be more helpful.

Changed the class on mine this year and yes postal application only by postal order or cheque - you will know if it's taxed by doing a Vehicle Check on the DVLA website - mine took a couple of weeks to show

So after 45 minutes of being on hold i got an advisor....explained the situation to her ..she told me taxation class can be changed at the post office ...i said are you sure as i was told this once before ...yes she insisted it can be done at post office ...i asked again for confirmation at which point she got very irtitated and insisted it could be .

So off i trot to the post office ....and guess what.

Yes that's right it CAN'T be done at the post office ...they can change disabled to plg or vice versa ....but they can't change bus to HGV ....bus tax is £220 hgv is £175 you can't have bus tax on a 2 seater van ...

I really want to phone back dvla and tell them how utterly soul destroyingly incompetent and useless they are but you're not allowed to tell people they are shit these days .....its no wonder i get called crabbit.

Hours of my time wasted and no further forward ..so its not registered in my name .its down as a bus when its not and its not taxed....lots of threatening DVLA adverts about untaxed vehicles etc and when you try to do the right thing you can't.

Blooming farce

We had trouble changing the weight on our Hymer, that was when local dvla still existed, they said needed test at somewhere ( can remember where) but we needed to tax so taxed at 3500kg but had changed weight on log book. Then a few weeks later had a call from dvla to say we had over payed and did refund.
they haven’t a clue.

Why haven’t you done the official thing and complained to your MP?

Yep i had hassle when i bought Toby too a few years back which is why i doubted the girl on the phone. The woman in the post office even remembered me.

Had to send a cheque ( who uses cheques these days ) mum was in hospital at the time and the only person i knew with a cheque book. The hassle and hoops we have to jump through to obey their ridiculous rules for our vehicles makes me so annoyed ..

Im just going to continue using it as im doing while they sort it out ...its their incompetence creating the problem and i can't wait weeks on them sorting it out.

Even though the class had not been changed on their records I was told (on the phone) that as soon as the application to change (and 6 months tax paid) was received I could drive the van without a C1. It took a few phone calls to sort (and lots of waiting on hold)

Hilarious story, but I've got to say that when we visited Bletchley Park last year, the most fascinating part of it was the pigeon exhibition!! Did you know that some pigeons even received medals and Royal commendations for their efforts during WW2 and were credited with all sorts of amazing feats of heroism!!

Don't send them anything you cant afford to lose, could be lost for ever.
We have always found emails to a named person is the best way.

Tam try this, copied from the other dvla thread,

You can open an email conversation with the DVLA by using the Complaints/Compliments procedure within their online system. A few weeks ago I got an email apology and a new V5C within a few days of raising a problem through this system.

The DVLA is the same as many other organisations where communications work much better using their established routes of contact rather than an ordinary email. First contact emails are too easy to lose/forward/ignore or get lost amid the piles of junk. Using the official complaints procedure probably means it gets logged in as outstanding with an official number and seems to get dealt with promptly.

I found out about the benefits of this DVLA procedure from other Funsters who have said that it is the best way to get results.

Tam

I think you should apply your photo/video skills and make something like this for your project.

(Not sure if you need facebook to watch it though 🤔). Edit - seems like you do

Don't knock the pigeons, 20 years ago, the most unlikely person you could image I knew kept racing pigeons. He had a real star in the racing world, decided to cash in. Advertised it, someone came from Japan to see/purchase it, let it out for a a trial run, never saw it again.

Going price all those years ago for a top racing pigeon ............?........... £20,000

My Dad kept pigeons, he was breeding his own strain based on Belgian stock, but didn't pay those sort of prices. When my son went to meet his new girlfriend's parents for the first time, he said a little about his background, Jenny's Dad said "Did your Grandad win the Scottish National with his own breed pigeon a few years back ?" , he was welcomed into the fold !

I used to keep pigeons when I was a boy.

Not a lot of people know that. :ROFLMAO:

🤦‍♂️ gawd what have i started..

All the twitchers now coming out the woodwork .

I had pigeon pie once ..... Wasn't great
Smoked pigeon breast with a gooseberry coulis served over rocket now that’s tasty. Sorry my chefiness coming out.

So finally edited the video trying to remove most of the jerky bits and large greek ladies from it 😁
Short but sweet

Good taste in music tam, London Grammar!
