Tam and Toby ~~ Hunting Zorba .....Take two.

This is what you call oversharing 🤦‍♂️

How to let lowlifes know where you keep anything of value

I run 2-3 merc vans in my plumbing business, Vito’s but mostly sprinters , 8 bought from new then kept for up to 10 years , usual broken springs / injection pumps & handbrake sticking but not much else , always sold due to surface rust not mechanics , the paint was so bad it could be rusting at 1 year old at the spot welds on roof , my last van which I still have (9 year old 30k ) is a Renault master extra high roof ( merc got to expensive )
The sprinters and Vito's are terrible for rust. The vario is a different ball game.
All vans are prone to rust due to the amount of steel but some are worse than others.

I had a Vito and it dissolved before my eyes. The floor rotted out of it. O couldn't believe that a late 90s van could be so bad

Yes I certainly am, thanks.😊
I am a great believer in "keep your mind on what you do want and off what you don't".
Val, forgive me, but I have MS and I think you do. Have you considered optic neuritis with your eye? A course of steroids may help if it is. Just thought I’d mention it in case it’s been overlooked.
I hope it improves for you soon.

Tam we’ve parked where you are now, lovely spot. Water available by the tennis court and there were public toilets on the road too, probably closed now though. we fed some beautiful puppies and dogs in the little woods there and left water out each night for them, they used to wake me up with their slurping until one night they ran off with the dog bowl!

Decided to stay here another night as its a lovely spot and the weather is fantastic im getting burnt in the sun ....will phone viamare tomorrow and book my ferry for the 14th from patras then im gonna head further west to pylos and voidokilia again and spend a few days there again ...i might see if i can find these waterfalls i missed last time while on route.

It’s a great spot Tam, we stayed there when we visited in 2019. Ian even tried a bit of fishing! Enjoy the sunshine ☀️

Hi Tam

How are you finding getting water and emptying waste and cassette?
Water is very easy to get in greece there are rosdside fountains all over , fresh water taps in most villages , outside churches , cemeteries etc most beaches have showers also.

Grey water i just empty in to bucket each day and water a tree with it .

Haven't used the cassette since i arrived in greece as nowhere to empty it so ive gone back to basics on that front and i use a bottle for pee which again goes round a tree etc and i bag and bin the solids same as i do with the dogs.

My next van won't have a cassette im fitting a seperation toilet.

Hi Tam. I am sure there are. There are some great features on YouTube as well as Instagram.

Take a look as these clowns.

What I was meaning was that they have a heavy chassis rather then the flimsy semi monocoque subframe assemblies on modern vans.

You are right though, rust is still always going to be an issue. But if you are a good welder and have understanding neighbors and of course plenty of time, a more simple and sturdy construction is easier to deal with.

Fingers crossed it will be not too challenging.

Yeah i follow them on YouTube and instagram .... they've done pretty well with that van overall but too many glass windows for me.

Doesn't matter where you go you get neighbours with untidy gardens 😉

Yes thats one of the things i like with these vans is the body is completely independent from the front to rear chassis. You could if you wished unbolt and lift the whole van body off the chassis and engine etc.
And the main chassis is usually in top condition.

I was reading about this on another site. Apparently the pee bottle should be emptied on rocks not around plants as it interferes with the existing soil make up as pee is very high in nitrogen 😁
I think the system you are currently using makes far more sense than a cassette, particularly for solo travellers.

To be honest its how i did it for years when i had smaller campers etc. Its a lot less stressful than having to find places to empty a cassette i must say.

Looks neat. Do you think there would be much smell in the van, or do you bag it straight away? (If you don’t mind me asking!) 😀

Its down to personal choice...some just cover with sawdust and do that till its full. Others including myself will be bagging and binning each time.

Looks like it's been well loved.
Im absolutely itching to get the seats out and the floor lifted till i see what its like underneath.
