Tam and Toby ~~ Hunting Zorba .....Take two.

Yes i said before that lithium was my first choice ....but Lenny HB has been giving me the pros and cons.

Victron lithium is very expensive ....other brands are available but are they as good and reliable that is the question.

I doubt i will fit victron panels as my prefered choice is just 2 panels at 250watt each ... something like this

https://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/710-...0001&campid=5338547443&icep_item=203237451969
which i can then fit side by side on the front of my roofrack and make them tiltable like this

But the rest of the system i plan to fit victron blue with Bluetooth technology.
Undecided on batteries yet but my initial thought was 2 x 100ah lithium.

My power useage will be

A compressor fridge
A shurflo pump
Tv
Power for diesel heater
Ignitor for oven and hob

Various led lights Inside and outside.

Usb charging sockets
Inverter occasionally

And possibly a second small pump for hot water system.

And thats about it

Fridge and heating being the biggest drains.

Ill have a b2b charger as well as the solar
That’s about 70ah @ 12v per day, 840wh. Times 3 that makes a 210ah @12v battery bank, or 2,5kwh reserve. If you go for 24v, you will need 100ah @ 24v or 200@12v. You can pick 200ah lfp or even better 150ah @24v. The later would be my choice, and will give you a 3,8kwh total reserve.
I currently have 5,1kwh lfp.

What happened to the woman on here a month or two ago, that was mad keen on a composting toilet, she was going to build a whole van around one?
That was about 18 months ago I think.
She took the hump when the dubious ideas she had on van build were pointed out and she couldn`t see it.
Probably just a reincarnation of 596 and wildbrambles ?

Certainly done mine!!!!!!

I think we need a battery thread.........bit like having an ongoing toilet thread...but for people with brains!! :rofl:
I see no mention of Banner batteries...are we all missing something here !

Ive returned this morning to one of my favourite places on this trip .... gialova
Got my old spot back right on the beach with my own shower and bin ....managed to connect my hose uo to the shower so ive given toby a well needed wash to get all that road salt off him ... he'll need another good polish and waxing when i get home.

So, because I looked at one Renogy video yesterday, Youtube thinks I'm addicted, but this one it suggested is quite interesting, bloke rips apart a brand new battery for our entertainment.

He has lots of videos about Lithium testing & comparing different makes, quite interesting.

That was the one i found yesterday googling, 760 quid didn't seem too bad and this vid seems to give it a glowing review. Wasn't long ago good ones were 1000 quid per 100ah.

Ive been finding myself some thick wall bamboo. Not sure what yet but i plan to incorporate some of this in the new van build ...even if only to make a fly net for the side door or the odd drawer handle ....ill find a use 😁 one of the things im looking forward to is adding homely touches

So i booked my ferry yesterday with viamare for sunday 14th of march ...got all the email confirmation etc yesterday and then realised today that id be arriving in italy on the monday which means id be right on the limit for having a test result within 72 hours as its unlikely to get a test done at weekend....it also meant id be pushed for getting up through italy dogs wormed in france and then another test done for the tunnel before hitting another weekend.

So ive just phoned to see if i can have the ferry changed to the friday 12th instead that way ive the sunday possibly monday to drive up through italy in to france get a vet just over border get dogs done then covid test next day and chunnel the day after that ....i cant see me getting through italy and france in only 1 day each its almost impossible.

So viamare has to email minoan to see if thats doable and get back to me tomorrow.... Im glad i realised now and not in a week or two as i still havent found a place to get tested in patra

Ill need suggestions of vets in france for doggy worming and covid test places

I'm sure you'll make it all work but must be just a bix anxious making until you've got it sorted.
Good luck.

Im about losing the plot with it because despite all these rules about requiring tests no one seems to be able to tell yoi where to get the test done ...which test you actually require etc ....and ive now discovered italy says within 48 hours not 72 ...which is great on a 24 hour ferry crossing

That's looks like 24v bamboo. Good job you are converting.

As long as you cross the channel back to England in 5 days you could have the dogs done in Italy, it's only worming and the passport.

Tam, Does this help?
Yes i found that before and at the moment it states a test isn't necessary to enter italy from greece and i then have 36 hours to transit italy
Although it does state somewhere that this rule is up for review on 5th march so ill have to keep an eye on that.

My problem is planning the rest of the journey as at present you're only allowed to transit france in 24 hours ....but i need a negative pcr test done in france as according to gov website only Spanish french or english is accepted so one in greece or italy won't do ....and the timing for greece is impossible anyway as im on ferry for 24 hours
I also need the dogs wormed somewhere and greece would again be tight on timing with no room for delays and not sure on italy ..

So i can probably get from Greece to italy no probs but i need a neg test to enter France unless im in and out in 24 hours ....but i need a vet and a pcr test with results in those 24 hours which to me seems almost impossible.

Im stressed to the max trying to work it all out

I also have to submit a plf before entering uk , order 2 tests before entering uk etc all within a certain timescale while driving 3500km in 2 days
Thats before i factor in eating sleeping letting dogs get a pee etc

Obviously when they worked these things out no one got together to think of folk crossing more than one country with dogs.

And to think if they had only extended the transition period till covid was dealt with all of this would be easy.

I dont think i can physically do what is legally required to be honest

It might be worth contacting Armytwowheels , they have just negotiated crossing from Spain into France and will have the latest info.
