Tam and Toby ~~ Hunting Zorba .....Take two.

Have you told Toby that you’re going to divorce him? I do hope he doesn’t go into a sulk and fall apart! Best treat him with kid gloves from now on. :roflmto:🥊
I always treat him with kid gloves 😁

Thats whyi want to build my own ... motorhomes are so fragile lol.

Ill be having a stainless steel shower tray and everything in my van lol
Off road tyres , better ground clearance and no fibreglass to worry about being damaged

Directly behind the cab im going to have a width ways L shaped sofa facing to the rear of the van and side door . I rarely sit in my cab chairs when im not driving ...i tend to sit in the back more ...so for a few reasons really
1) privacy ....stops people seeing in the back
2) warmth ...the cab having single glazed windows , vents etc holes behind dash to engine bay ....its one of the hardest parts to heat and also where condensation gathers on windows etc .

3) security ....with only one rear door to access the living area theres less chance of a break in

When you enter the side door the sofa will be on right side and the woodburner on the left .

The bed will be width ways along very rear of van , approximately 1200mm from floor . Shoilet in front of bed on lhs , then sink unit between that and start of sofa

Rhs will be wardrobe then fridge then cooker and woodburner.

Thats the rough idea i have at present.
Don't forget your rooftop patio area and solar farm.

Why are you putting a wood burner in when you plan to spend most of the time in the sun.

Yes thats one of the first jobs after the windows removed etc ...roofrack built and all cables from roof routed inside .
Solar panels and lights etc

Great stuff Tam and a new van to convert too.
A great way of life you have says jealous Paul.
I know I’m a cheeky bleeder but regarding funding your lifestyle, do you have to get a job every so often for a few months?

Yeah ill be doing delivery driving again when i come back

I agree with having the cab separated but would it not be better (safer) to have a bulkhead with a door in it
That would retain heat in the main body of the vehicle /avoid condensation issue's and give you privacy but provide you with a second (emergency) exit or direct access to the cab if needed in a hurry.

I had thought about that and still haven't ruled out a hatch of some description but can't put a door as it would ruin my sofa idea
Besides i want a double passenger seat so both dogs can sit up front

Wouldn't those two littie'uns share the same seat.
You could then have a "roller shutter" do they call them " tambour" doors that went from the lrvel of the sofa seat up the way..😤

Nah they can't fit on one seat milo currently sits in the back

Re Val 3 dogs escape hatch... doesn't have to be a full sized door, just a hatch you can get through, not necessarily in a emergency but if a French van snuggles up too close.
Actually, if one of the skylights could double as an emergency exit.
Always have 2 ways out.

No alternative escape route?

Wouldn't be for me.
The more mature hymers only had the hab door. Not good when the handle busts and the only way in is the skylight.

I suppose they will class windows as escape routes
Im still at planning stage ... nothing completely set in stone yet but there will be a skylight above bed

But

The more ways out means the more ways in and for security im looking to keep that to a minimum.

Current Hymers drivers door is an option, it's not standard.
Concorde, Morelo & most N&B don't have cab doors.

We only have the hab door, but I reckon that in an emergency, even if there was not time to open an acrylic window I could kick it out in short order and be through it just as quickly.

If one had a fire amidships when one was in a rear bed that would be the only way out even if there were cab doors.

Tam, I've just had another thought - does Milo take himself through to the back of Toby?
Before leaving Scotland I had my little Beardie collie Nell, who was later joined by my current Border Collie Lass.
I regularly drove a pick-up truck in which Nell chose to travel in the open back both on and off road (like many farm collies).
Several times I insisted she come into the cab, when made to do so sh would jump down in the passenger foot well and travel there. If parked and stationary she would get up on the seat and watch tge world go by.
She happily chose to ride on the back of my 800cc road quad in an open box on the vack seat, although I insisted she was securely harnessed to rwo anchor points.
Once I bought tge moho I did a couple of exploratory local runs before leaving for Spain.

On the whole of that journey Lass chose to sit on a window seat immeadiately behind my drivers seat, where she would excitedly look at passing traffic (in the Uk) or the view once on the continent.(I believe, here in Spain and maybe in France too, it is illegal to allow dogs to travel in the front of vehicles.
Meanwhile Nell took herself off to the back where she lay on the floor or in her bed fot the entire journey.
Neither dog was travel sick or afraid when traveling, they did not throw up, pant or slobber, and both would rush to get in if a door was the least bit ajar, one just liked to look out of the window and one very definitely did not.
Sorry it was a bit long winded but perhaps Milo prefers not to see the moving horizon
