Thinking about having a punt on this

Again its higher miles but getting a low mileage one of these isnt easy .

This one has full merc history at least , body looks not bad and it has the no back doors id like and the front side barn door.
Windows would be removed and holes welded up or 4mm aluminium plates fitted in place of them

Depends of course how much dearer it gets before auction ends

But the guy with the panel van needing a fair bit welding etc wants 7k for it

Tam, one thing to consider if you go for a coach is where and how you'll get rid of the old seats.
I know someone had a hell of a job getting rid of a couple of old car ones let alone a coach load, the local recycling centre (tip) wouldn't take them as they said it was commercial waste!!

Looking forward to following your build, good luck on your search for a van.

Weigh them in at the local scrapie, scrap steel is on a high at the moment.

I think it varies from place to place but id try advertising them first and see if any local bus place wanted them

If not then as lenny says id weigh them in for scrap.
Usually a steel sub floor in the buses too which is attached to the exsisting chassis rails ...fair bit of scrap

Just on the offchance i wondered if there was anyone who lived in the mexborough south yorkshire area .....and if anyone had a big driveway lol

Just covering bases as this vario im interested in biding on ....id asked the fella last week how soon he'd need it shifted and he said around end of February but i wont be back that quick.

If i did buy it then id probably just head home for the end of march so i could get on with building it ...but can't see me being back much earlier than that.

I have emailed him again to see if theres a chance he could store it a bit longer as im assuming he has a yard he keeps his busses in .....but you never know eh lol

yes scrap if no one wants to buy them
The tips will try this on but they have no right to refuse waste. If you own a coach but use it as a motorhome it's not commercial anymore. They have tried a similar thing with me but I just held firm and eventually they buckled and took the waste.

Man that looks a complete headache ....why is nothing simple in these countries
As an aside ive met that couple ....thatd thr german/ Aussie combination i was parked near at elea ....theyve a self built container box on a vario pickup
Thats the ones i said were meant to be back in Australia in august but can't get home. The container has been on a few motors all around the world they just ship the container and sell the truck each place.

Hi Tam, I've got to strongly advise you against that idea for a few reasons, the few " unmanned " crossings that do still exist are remote and fairly inaccessible in winter conditions ( our mild conditions here are due to end in the next few days and heavy snowfall predicted ) these crossings are all monitored by CCTV and the Bulgarian Border Police mobile units patrol these areas and up to 60 kilometers inland from all borders. You are required to purchase a vignette on entering Bulgaria and this is for all roads with the exception of very minor roads linking villages to the local municipality, the vignette is cheap enough for under 3500kg, the fines for non-compliance are not ! ( details on BGTOLL site ) you can now purchase and pay online, saves time and hassle at the border crossing. Vignette enforcement is strictly monitored by ANPR, Police and BGTOLL mobile units. PCR negative test result required at the border for entry as you thought, no news on that being lifted in the near future. There are no facilities for testing at the border so a bit of forward planning needed. Good luck with it and just shout if you need any help/info while you are here.
Can you offer any assistance on the toll setup for over 3.5tonne as the above looks a complete nightmare and enough to put me right off bulgaria

Wondering if you risked getting a vignette for under 3.5t then your reg would be logged for the ANPR cameras.

Sh*t! Sounds like it's not meant to be.
Don't fret, something else will come up. "Each failure is a stepping stone to a far greater success"
Mayb you are just teasing yourself looking too soon.

The problem is they are getting rarer and more popular. Im following at least 8 uk builds on these at the minute that have bought their vans in the last 2 or 3 months and about 20 others that have been building or have built them in the last year or so.

Still not ruled out germany for one if the right van right price comes up ...but with import costs i started to think a uk one might make more sense.

But not easy to organise while you are away touring.
You need to trust that your "higher power" will come up with the right vehicle when you are in a position to deal with it, otherwise you could ruin the rest of this trip by being pre-occupied with something you are not in a position to deal just yet.
Be patie 😏

Aye perhaps

Might just be that once we're let off the leash and can book our two weeks in the Costas again, the current enthusiasm for converting vans might wane a bit.
You might discover more come back onto the market in a few months time?
