Can't see it to be honest but time will tell. But then will it get too hot?
Backpack deployed. Shower proof would be all that's required.A device which is designed to be pointing to the sky outside that is not going to be waterproof seems a bit pointless, cannot see how that will sell lol, could be use once and throw away i suppose
Where are you lot getting this idea that it won't be weather proof?Backpack deployed. Shower proof would be all that's required.
Hopefully it'll be fully weatherproof. We'll have to wait and see.
PS: My only concern about the small one is that it won't have the power to bust through heavy cloud cover or rain.
TouchéAre you nuts!
Why would Elon design something that doesn’t work in all conditions? If it doesn’t work all the time, the returns would be off the chart!
It might only be water resistant like a phone. So you'd be fine leaving it out in the rain for occasional use. But it wouldn't survive being out all year and blasted by salty spray at motorway speeds when bolted to the roof of the van. Just speculation...Where are you lot getting this idea that it won't be weather proof?
It would be nuts for something that is absolutely required to be outside to work should not be weather proof. Do you think SpaceX and Musk are morons or something and wouldn't do this?
Even from a basic business point of view it makes sense for it to be weatherproof otherwise the returns level will be off the charts.
Or do you guys know something I don't?
PS: This is not aimed at you Guigsy you were just the last one to mention it
Ahh that makes more sense. I can't see them making it any less rugged to be honest. It might only be water resistant like a phone. So you'd be fine leaving it out in the rain for occasional use. Exactly my pointIt would be nuts for something that is absolutely required to be outside to work should not be weather proof. Do you think SpaceX and Musk are morons or something and wouldn't do this?

Just cannot see them not making it waterproof, i really can't no matter how long it's left out for so i am in agreementI can't see them making it any less rugged to be honest.
I'm just concerned that they're trying to make it light weight and very compact. And the router is integrated. They'll probably drop things like the heater. Hopefully it'll be fine.Ahh that makes more sense. I can't see them making it any less rugged to be honest.
All these YouTubers are just scratching around and collating the information which at the moment has not officially been released, nothing new in the above really ie only size and what Mr Elon said on Twitter, the rest is assumption.
Still worth a watch if you have not seen anything previous though
Do you have a link as i am unable to locate an official release on their site, only from what's been mentioned on Twitter? As this guy says, the newly released specs are from Starlink's own website.

That's useful, as i could not see that

Not going to be 12v then according to that specs, looks as though its similar power to the full-blown one making it not so portable
I changed that once i re-read it see aboveYou have not watched the video I posted then, as the guy states that it can also be powered by 12 to 48 volts DC and the consumption is 24 watts so 2 amps at 12v unless you use "snow melt" which draws 60 watts.
Thanks Paul… So IP67 then…
According to the screen shot its IP67 Type 4 for the dish and IP66 type 4 for the plugNope, specs state IP66 Type 4 but still a good level of water tightness, Harvey.

Time to get your money out I think it’s going to be a game changer for portable internet. 12v and 25w. 100 mb downloading.Shame it’s not a better spec router. I’m guessing 50-75 Mb down speed, so okay for what we use it for! Power consumption of up to 50w doesn’t really improve on where I am with my 12v conversion on the v2 dishy! Edit - if it’s only 20-25w I’m all over this!
I think I will invert my previous strategy and be a later adopter on this one… see how the Septics get on with it all first!
