Starlink ordered… I feel it’s the only sensible option now..

Just looking at that & it occurred to me that the new Gen 3 that has no motors & doesn't move would be ideal for roof mounting without any need for mods,or very few, as the angled base bolts on & can be changed for different types of roof fixings.

Wow, they go for £80 on Etsie?
Yes, more and more printers are coming on line. I've had mine for a while and at the time it was the cheapest I could find that looked decent quality.

It also came fully assembled whereas others need 6 pieces jointed.

Printed mine only cost a fiver or so. 6 pieces glued and bolted together.
Only cost you a Fiver in materials. But what about your time and the cost of the printer and all the time that went into learning how to do it. don't undervalue yourself :)

It takes just under 1kg of filament for the everlanders one which at £6 would be very cheap. And nearly a weeks worth of printing.

That's extremely cheap for what they are doing if it's the everlanders one. Too much hassle for that price.
Lots of listings. I went looking to see if it was worth me making them out of sheet plastic (HDPE).

From the States £107 with carriage and potentially an import tax?

HDPE is a great material to work with and form, but VERY difficult to bond to, so I would think a poor choice for a mount!
thats right, extremely difficult.

but if before bonding you run a flame over it for a literally a second, the surface can be bonded to, this is how hdpe safety helmets (as opposed to ABS) are custom-printed with inks.."flamed" first. But I understand an electric heat gun works just as well.

Ahh I didn't notice that. I don't use Etsy and thought it was a UK listing. My apologies.

I’ll print one first before I pay over £100 quid for one.

There are ways, such as brass inserts etc. As for bonding the dishy to a hypothetical HDPE mount I would probably consider some kind of clamped surface. Or possibly make it so you push the dishy in from underneath then have brass insert clamps to hold it in place.

As for mounting to the roof. There are multiple options on that front.

That is interesting. I will have to look into that a bit more. I am just working on the welding methods at the moment.

I don't want one. But if I did I would rather pay £100 for one that is already made rather than buying a 3D printer, learning how to use it then waiting for each part to be made.

But each to their own. If you already have a 3D printer and are prepared to use it then that is a different matter than for most of us.

OK, for anyone close to me (clacton on sea) who wants to try their hand, i am happy to loan my 3d printer to anyone wanting to print their own, its a creality ender 5 pro - just provide your own filament and time (plus a couple of nozzles just in case) and print me one while youre doing it !!

SWMS wont let me play with my printer or starlink for a couple of months as she has other things for me to do apparently ......LOL

happy to show anyone how to set it up etc

Has anyone had any contact with Starlink through the app?.
Do they actually reply to emails/ enquires / complaints.
I’ve sent 2 now and just get automated messages saying they have received it.
No actual response just wondering what the response time might be

Didn't need much brain power grom, download the STL file from thingverse stick it through the slicer, then on to the ender 3, then wait about 6 days as the old ender prints each bit.

I used PETG filament which is a little harder to print than PLA but has much better UV resistance.
There are better filaments but most are much harder to print especially without an enclosure.
It's all to do with shrinkage, as the higher layers shrink they lift the model off the plate at one or both ends.
PLA and PETG generally stick to the plate pretty well, others not so much or not at all, so end up bowed.

Totally agree - no guarantee if I bought the printer that I could achieve the desired result.

And.... You lost me :)

It sounds more difficult than it actually is. All you do is download a file of your choice, then you open a programme of your choice and open the file in that programme, then save the file in a different format on a micro card which you then take out of if your computer and insert into your 3D printer. Turn your 3D printer on and tell it to print the file.

I'm sure most people have downloaded a document, opened up a programme to read the document, then saved the document onto a memory card or for us older folk, a floppy drive ..... It's basically the same thing. You don't need to design anything or learn anything, it's all done for you by little people inside the magic boxes ...

Watched the ppv boxing last night ie day of reckoning with the starlink. No vpn needed and no issues using IPTV. In fact it performed better than my home broadband as that needs a vpn to do the same thing.
Mr Musk must not come under the same rules as the other UK isps.
Been using it now nearly 3 weeks in Spain with zero issues. Wouldn't be without it now, I haven't even used my 5tb harddrive that I loaded with tv shows and films as it's been easier just to stream what I want when required.

Been doing the very same since Starlink came out and via IPTV for over 5 years.

IPTV not missed a beat and great price at £60 a year.

About the same price I pay, I only ever use the iptv for the boxing but it certainly works better than expected. I used to also use it for the VOD but they are not very reliable for that and I have better methods for that now which always work (syncler+ with realdebrid and premiumize subs) never had anything that I wanted to watch that was not available using these.

The starlink just makes it so much easier, just a shame it's so expensive but good that I only pay for the months I use. If it weren't for the fact that I can stop and start on demand I would not have it based on the monthly cost.

Hope they do another deal where they drop the hardware to £99. Would buy a few and do some package deals with it flat mounted. 👍

The quality of the pictures looks really good, glad you are pleased. Have you had any experience of using your mobile phone through the internet connection? Wifi calling? does it work with starlink? Any info appreciated please.

Yes I do everything… it’s an internet connection. The bearer service, in this case Starlink doesn’t care what data it’s carrying. VoIP (WiFi calling) works perfectly… just anything you would do on a standard broadband connection you can do with Starlink, just you can be anywhere in Europe and do it… bloody marvellous it is!

Starting to be a planned rolled out on airlines too now,
