Starlink ordered… I feel it’s the only sensible option now..

I deleted my post because I realised you said 0.5kwh as opposed to what I read as 0.5kw, so you did mean 0.5kw.

40 -50 Amps out of the batteries is about what I see per day, but note this is based on my usage pattern, so real world scenario for me, may be different for others… 👍🏻

Starlink delivered to site within 3 days so impressed with that in France! Been up and running fine 24h, varying speeds at moment but quite a few obstructions (trees) around. TV on firestick great. It's expensive per month if used for 12 months continuously but with breaks of a month or two its worth it for uncapped data.

Could not agree more. We will keep ours running, but accept a few breaks does save a few spondoolies!

We are well underway with our usage now (eleven weeks plus) and find it a pretty solid service. It’s not perfect all the time, but solid.

Been running it for 8 months now and for some reason all my devices can't see it and the network needed re configuring? First time that happened.?

Ok, finally got round to adding an external socket. I took note of the many comments and decided to install it like this.

I'm happy with it but it not quite how I envisaged it would look. If I was to do it again I think I would bring the connection our of the back and use some sort of right angled connection on the fly lead. But hey, it does what I wanted, 12v with no extra leads/wires permanently fixed outside of the case. I can cover it over when not in use.

Is that an XLR socket? Hope no one tries to plug a mic in :p :D

Starlink arrived pre house move and has sat patiently in its box for nearly a month! Move to Devon has now happened and the dish has been been flung on the grass where it has performed faultlessly for the past 5 days (seems to hover around 120mb/11mb which is absolutely fine for us).

Wi-Fi seems pretty good in covering the house but doesn’t reach the garage (about 20m away).

I’m tempted to buy the Starlink mesh extender as it will just work I guess, but they’re a punchy £150!

Is it worth me ditching the Starlink router (well, disabling it at least) and buying something else? If so, any recommendations for a router/mesh extender.

Thanks

PS - it really messes with location/time! Might just see if I can get a static IP address!

does it have to be a starlink specific 'wifi booster' or even something like a cheapo tp link? it might need a network change when accessing from the garage, but how often do you need to access from the garage?

It will do the job! 👍🏻

How smart does the front case look after you ‘cracked’ it open?

A new(ish) video on making it flat mount and 12v. I haven't watched it yet so can't comment on how good it is. But the first few seconds makes the flat mount look good?

Did see it. It's pretty much the same at the others. The issue for me is that to buy the flat mount is very expensive at over £300 last time I looked. This is why I printed the everlanders one which is now finished. Just waiting on the boondocker so that I can fit and test.

Sorry for the delay, photo below. You can just make out a couple of small black lines. I might try a bit of tipex or touch up paint on the reverse side of the glass

Edit

On closer inspection, it's the black foam that is scraped away and I assume I just need to cover the areas with anything?

The best thing about the mounts for me is the protection from hail ( I assume?) It wouldn't be 'helpful' if heavy hail damaged Dishy Mc Flatface when he was lay down staring at the stars ....

This looks like a great mounting solution….

Motorised mount
its nearly there ..... eventually someone will develop something that will lay flat - i think theres just too much drag on that mounting solution for a motorhome roof, but its a great find!

Probably no more drag than a normal sat dish?

Hi
I just plugged in starlink after a month or so of being in the box
I am on the roam plan and as yet I have not turned the plan back on
I thought the dish still connected up and updated itself even with plan not running
At the moment all I get a connected / disconnected cycle via the app
Anyone else seen this
I have disconnected / reconnected all the cables etc
Last resort is to factory reset
Any thought before I do a reset

Son has a starlink and was going to suspend it for a few months but got a warning , basically saying they can’t guarantee a reconnection if the local area gets oversubscribed . Anyone else seen that please ??

Pretty sure you need to pay subscription before any updating or service?
I thought that may be the case. I also thought I read somewhere that dish still connected and updated but no browsing etc possible
I don’t want to activate subscription - just testing it before going away - will be on the move for a week before needing it. Just concerned that kit has an issue

Came back to France after a couple of weeks away in UK. I didn't cancel subscription but put dish in 'stowed' position. Switched back on and all well! Dish was put in a different position so had to search again. If its a fault with your system? The help section is good and wouldn't think you would lose your subscription fee...(y)

Did you not try it in the 14 days you get at delivery?

Pretty sure it needs an active subscription to work. Will try mine later as both of mine are stopped currently.

Searching for the magic flat roof mount doesn't make sense to me.
I've done the two bars on the roof with bolts sticking upwards, the standard Starlink mount goes on these with wingnuts and stays there unless I want to take it off and sit it on the grass or somewhere different.
I don't see the point of having it permanently mounted, when somewhere hot (and lets face it, there are times in this country it gets pretty hot these days) I want my van in the shade if possible, so putting dishy away from the van makes sense, in the same way I have 300w of solar on my roof and 400w of foldable solar I can deploy in the sun while I chill in the shade.
It would have to be a very clever motorised mount to suit my requirements and most of these are going to cost more than the kit did which is madness!
I get that some people want to be able to use it on the go, but given that this breaches terms and makes you liable to being booted out the dishy club I'll use 4g while moving.

I am a bit bothered about using it on the go. Don’t like the idea of leaving it on the ground where it can easily be stolen or just run over.

If zi really needed the internet for work I would forego some shade I guess. Ultimately zi want it to be easy to deploy. One click to get it upright and a second to turn on the power to the router and dish with a nest installation inside the motorhome.

One of the great things about Starlink is the instant plug and go. No setting up other than plugging it in
