That’s what I reckon - sticking it on the roof on a pole, not an option. It seems flat Mount works, just need someone to jump on the idea - preferably sooner rather than laterS&G of Luton were talking about this at the Peterborough Show. Will not be long before someone fabricates a mounting system.
Here is the video where he details the project;
I suppose the question is (as previously asked) has anyone done this yet, changed from residential to roam and then paused it?Customer Support - Starlink
How does pause service work?
Option to pause service is available only to Mobile (Regional/Global) and Mobile Priority service plans.
Your service can be paused or un-paused at any time on your account page.
If you pause your service before the end of your current billing period, you will still receive service for the remainder of your billing period. When you un-pause your service, the monthly subscription fee will be charged immediately, on a pro-rated basis dependent on the plan monthly cost and time remaining on your pre-determined account billing cycle.
If you wish to not be billed for the first months service you will have 14 days from your Starlink's ship date to initiate a pause. If a pause is initiated after the billing statement has generated in your account, your Starlink service will be scheduled to pause the following month.
Yes an easy kit to convert everything inc 12v supply would be greatThat’s what I reckon - sticking it on the roof on a pole, not an option. It seems flat Mount works, just need someone to jump on the idea - preferably sooner rather than later
Oh well I ordered anyway. 30 day return. I will get it - set it up and see if I can change to roamI suppose the question is (as previously asked) has anyone done this yet, changed from residential to roam and then paused it?
Mine should arrive this week so I will post how I go on! If not it's back in the box or as I actually own it I might well even just keep it at the price I bought it at until 'things are sortedOh well I ordered anyway. 30 day return. I will get it - set it up and see if I can change to roam
Going away in a week and then at a festival the week after
Festivals struggle to even get a phone signal so should be a good test
Maybe rent internet to my neighbours and be in profit
It’s normally around 2 days for delivery but I guess the new offer will have increased orders significantly.Have you been emailed a shipping delivery date? I ordered a few days ago, but not received any update yet, not that I’m in a rush, I’m away until beginning August. So will be looking at pausing.
my brother in law ordered last Tuesday 16th, and had an email yesterday saying delivery to Manchester will be by DHL next Thursday 25thIt’s normally around 2 days for delivery but I guess the new offer will have increased orders significantly.
My online portal says standard service plan no option to change. Unti kit arrives and activated don’t know what other option appear.
FIXED SERVICE PLANS
- Standard Service Plan. The Standard Service Plan (available on “Residential”) is designed for personal, family, or household use at a fixed land-based location. See the Starlink Specifications for details on the typical performance. Service activation and associated billing cannot be paused under the Standard Plan. The Standard Service Plan includes an unlimited amount of “Standard” data. In times of network congestion and during peak usage hours, users may experience slower speeds and reduced performance which may result in degradation or unavailability of certain third-party services or applications, as described in the Fair Use Policy. Bandwidth intensive applications, such as streaming videos, gaming, or downloading large files are most likely to be impacted during peak usage hours. Customers with high bandwidth needs that experience Service degradation resulting from Starlink’s network management practices are able to upgrade to a Priority Service Plan. Supplemental customer support for business or government specific requests (e.g., modified invoicing or tax-exempt certifications) are only available under Starlink’s Priority Service Plan and may not be supported under Standard Service Plan subscriptions.
- Priority Service Plan. The Priority Service Plans (available on “Business”) are designed for high demand users, as well as businesses, governments and institutions at fixed land-based locations. See the Starlink Specifications for details on the typical performance. Service use and associated billing cannot be paused under the Priority Service Plans. The Priority Service Plans assign a set amount of “Priority” data to customers each month, as described in the Fair Use Policy. Priority data is given network precedence over Standard and Mobile data, meaning users will experience faster and more consistent download and upload speeds. Unused Priority data does not rollover to the next month. If you have exhausted your Priority data in a given month, you are able to purchase additional Priority data or upgrade your Service Plan (see Section 2.4(b)). Customers who exhaust and have not purchased additional Priority data will be allocated an unlimited amount of Standard data for the remainder of the month, which may result in slower speeds and reduced performance compared to customers with Priority data.
MOBILITY SERVICE PLANS
- Mobile Service Plans.
a) Regional or Global Coverage. Starlink Mobile Service Plans (available on “Roam”) allow you to access Services at any destination where Starlink provides active coverage and is designed for low demand, portable, land-based use, such as camping or nomadic living. The “Regional” Plan allows you to access Mobile Services at any land-based destination within the continent that you place your Order. The “Global” Plan allows you to access Mobile Services at any land-based destination where Starlink provides active coverage around the world. Mobile Service cannot be used on the ocean or in-motion without purchasing additional Mobile Priority Service data. Mobile Service can be paused and un-paused at any time. When un-paused, the monthly Mobile subscription fee will be charged immediately, on a pro-rated basis. If you use Mobile Services for more than two months in a country that is different than your shipping address, Starlink may require you to move your registered address to your new location. Starlink Mobile Service charges will be ongoing until you pause the Service via your Starlink account.
b) Mobile Data. The Mobile Service Plan includes an unlimited amount of “Mobile” data. Mobile data that is assigned to users is always deprioritized as compared to other Starlink Service Plans, resulting in degraded Service and slower speeds in congested areas and during peak hours, as described in the Fair Use Policy. See Starlink Specifications for details on the expected performance. Stated speeds and uninterrupted use of the Service are not guaranteed and are highly dependent on geographical areas. Mobile Service users with high bandwidth, in-motion or ocean needs are able to upgrade to a Mobile Priority Service Plan or opt into paying for Mobile Priority data per GB under their Mobile Service Plan (see Section 2.4(b)).- Mobile Priority Service Plans.
a) Global Land, Ocean, In-Motion Coverage. Starlink Mobile Priority Service Plans (available on “Maritime”, “Mobility”, and “Roam”) allow you to access Services at any destination around the world where Starlink provides active coverage. It is designed for high bandwidth or in-motion users who want global land plus ocean access, such as shippers and sailors. The Service can be paused and un-paused at any time. When un-paused, the monthly Mobile Priority subscription fee will be charged immediately, on a pro-rated basis. If you use Mobile Priority Services for more than two months in a country that is different than your shipping address, Starlink may require you to move your registered address to your new location. Mobile Priority Service charges will be ongoing until you pause the Service via your Starlink account.
b) Mobile Priority Data. The Mobile Priority Service Plans assign a set amount of “Mobile Priority” data to customers each month. Mobile Priority data is given network precedence over Standard and Mobile data, meaning users will experience faster and more consistent download and upload speeds, as described in the Fair Use Policy. See Starlink Specifications for details on the expected performance. Stated speeds and uninterrupted use of the Service are not guaranteed and are highly dependent on geographical areas. Unused Mobile Priority data does not rollover to the next month. After a user’s Mobile Priority data is exhausted each month, behavior of the Service will depend on where Starlink is being used:
- For inland coverage (including lakes and rivers), after Mobile Priority data is exhausted, users will receive unlimited Mobile data, which will result in slower speeds and degradation of bandwidth intensive applications during times of network congestion. Additional Mobile Priority data is available by opting into paying for additional data per GB via your Starlink app or account.
- For ocean coverage, after Mobile Priority data is exhausted, users will be unable to connect to the internet except to access their Starlink account on -Broken Link Removed-, where additional Mobile Priority data can be purchased, so that a user may reconnect to the internet.
See Section 2.4(b) and the Fair Use Policy for payment details on opting in and out of additional Mobile Priority data.

I will wait till the kit arrives and get it linked with my account. It shows no device yet. Maybe that appears on shipping and then account opens up. Checked online and in appare you checking on the app or online...only allows change online via pc from memory
When it starts here in spain it i is 499€ for the kit. 60€ for delivery & management (whatever that is?) 99€/month cost plus an additional 9€/month which the spanish government will charge starlink for each registered customer as each customer needs a satellite licence? For French residents they are offering the mobile Roam version for €100 a month with a one-time hardware cost of €300 or the residential one for the same hardware price but €50 a month
Both the same. exactly the same equipment.Or are the both the same apart from the option to move?
Duh!Both the same. exactly the same equipment.
The only difference will be if you park under trees or other obstruction at a destination
Here is the video where he details the project;
Lots of tubers modding the kit to suit their rigs. Do not fancy cutting into the aerial etcBrilliant. Nice beard as well!
Somebody I saw used one of these boxes and attached a mount to it for when it's on the back of their van otherwise stores the dish, router, cables etc when not it use.Lots of tubers modding the kit to suit their rigs. Do not fancy cutting into the aerial etc
The mount on a flat surface seems to work though - may not get the fastest speed but probably a lot more than a dongle
I was considering just dropping the aerial into a large rectangle storage box with the pole just left to dangle
Put all the wiring in the box with the cable coming out a hole to the router and add a bit of weight to hold al in place if need be
Arrive on site, move the box to the roof via my big air vent with cable running to router
Power and let it do its stuff - the pole will move all over the place and eventually settle ?? and pick up whatever signal it can
No idea wether it will work but may give it a go
Need a box depth of circa 350mm and the box 500 x 300 ish
In reality I will probably just put on roof with the 4 legged mount included in kit and leave the 75ft of wiring up there too. Maybe find a neat box for the wiring - I wonder how secure it is in the wind - lots of options to play with
I had it cable tied to the roof rack on my van, and it was rock solid in a decent wind (too windy to use awning or put flags up). Just took the dish cable in through the drivers door and closed it on it (which worked fine) rather than mess about trying to get it inside somehow more complicated. How stable would that be if it got a bit windy?

Nice solution. Were you tempted to mod the cable to shielded RJ45 connections to allow Dishy Mcflatface to be used elsewhere, or even buy an additional cable?I’ve sikafled two 25mm2 aluminium profiles to the MH roof. Through these I’ve fixed four stainless studs M5 which the base of the Starlink mounts to with four wing nuts to secure.
The cable is now permanently installed through the roof with the majority of the cable stored in a mounted box on the roof View attachment 756232
When I arrive anywhere I simply climb ladder up side, clip cable into the dish, secure with four wingnuts and Robert’s your mothers brother, all sorted.
Ten days into using it like this and all is good!
