I believe it is larger and has better bandwidth capabilities.I Know, Im wondering why so expensive if the signal is transmitted down to most of earth anyway whats the issue ??
I went ahead and ordered one, and paid upfrontIt's a matter of working out how many months you'll rent it. £300 up front to own it, after 15 months you are paying again. I think I got a good deal.
Rental option is only for residential not roamHow long has the rental in the UK been an option ?
£15. per month then usage fees?
Id have probably gone for that back in the day to test the water.
good for those that want too now I suppose.
still have the 30 day return period too remember, if you do go "all in"
so the signal that is transmitted is a different signal?I believe it is larger and has better bandwidth capabilities.
If you don't like you don't have to buy it
Would have been OK with paying £2400 for the kit - only like buying a satellite system, but £247 a month is just too much so back to the drawing board and use the roam option. Going to give it some thought. Don't need it imminently as not going to Europe till later in the year and have unlimited Vodafone data in the UK
You could always go to the website which tells you the differenceso the signal that is transmitted is a different signal?
they transmit one for us cheapos, and one for when Im on my 500ft yacht ?
Not sure how I choose the price plan I want to use? It’s the roam one I will need . Presumably once the equipment arrives you select the price plan and activate it ?
There are few parts to all this starlink stuff, the first is if you really have no other way of getting a broadband connection I can see why it’s attractive
The notion of a two tier connection is no different to that of land bassed broadband providers, if your a business the contention ratio is far less than a domestic user but even that is fast disappearing, in part to advances in technology.
By using the service money is being sucked out of countries and little to no tax being paid in that county but also yet another American ‘let’s control the world’ product.
The part about supporting emergency responders is a little weak and suggest marketing hype, there maybe some parts of the world that may need this in extreme circumstances but in the main probably not needed for most emergency service providers.
There may be a few MoHo owners who benefit from starlink but actually it’s great not to be tethered to the internet 24/7 and mobile signal is probably suffice t for most.
With the shear volume of satellites it’s going to degrade our night sky view
It also makes me smile that people want the cheapest SIM moan about the cost of domestic broadband where the router is often supplied by the service provider the next I see starlink with all its costs.
If you can afford it and ‘need it’ good for you but and not knocking that. But it’s not for many and certainly not at the price asked.
think I will stick with my Sim a few cd’s along with scrabble, chess set and card games
My home broadband was 58 per.month. then add my roaming hardware and costs. Starlink works out cheaper now.It also makes me smile that people want the cheapest SIM moan about the cost of domestic broadband where the router is often supplied by the service provider the next I see starlink with all its costs.
Isn't that true about everything. Nothing always suits everyone. But choice is a wonderful thing. If you can afford it and ‘need it’ good for you but and not knocking that. But it’s not for many and certainly not at the price asked
The world is becoming a smaller place . It's no different really than the cars or motorhomes being imported here from other countries.By using the service money is being sucked out of countries and little to no tax being paid in that county but also yet another American ‘let’s control the world’ product.
Is that why the M5 went Harvey? to reduce your carbon footprintI get all the points you make Coolcats. Have you tried to roam in Europe recently and remain connected easily? This is the primary motivation for me using Starlink…
It’s also been very beneficial in terms of weight, roof real estate and the opposite of your point, being easily connected all of the time.
I’ve removed a lumpy Oyster sat dish from the roof (as we now have ubiquitous always on internet so stream everything) proper heavy bit of kit that was and this has freed up enough roof space to install another 200w solar panel. This again in turn has allowed me to reduce my carbon footprint by using less gas, with more use of the electric kettle, solar powered hot water, using induction hob more etc etc, so we are reducing our reliance on LPG and fossil fuel in general and becoming more renewable orientated. This has to be a good thing IMHO!
So with my use case, there is lots of upside to Starlink. I accept not for everyone, but aside from a slight premium at the moment for being a mid adopter, seems like a phenomenal service to me!
Too big for a TOAD.Is that why the M5 went Harvey? to reduce your carbon footprint
Does any current user use the system for WIFI calling in UK or EU...........?
Cheers
Many thanks for info....Yes - works for me on EE, also WhatsApp/Facetime, no problems. (in the UK, not taken it abroad).
I believe it works with O2/Voda also for Wifi calling, but it's more down to the handset than the Starlink router.
I can foresee a future where MHF starlink owners share for free, their internet connection with others at rallies etc ....
... bit like the rush to Lithium batteriesIf you can afford it and ‘need it’ good for you but and not knocking that. But it’s not for many and certainly not at the price asked.
if buying just on price Plus Net is £26 for 900mbMy home broadband was 58 per.month. then add my roaming hardware and costs. Starlink works out cheaper now.
Indeed it is people buy Rolex watches I could have but like many others choose not too I recall asking the guys I work with what does it do when they flash them about, they look surprised by the question but of course they tell the time here is a watch that does exactly the same thing and is accurate @ £60 tend to lsat years and do not need servicing, rather than £10K but as you say choice is a good thingIsn't that true about everything. Nothing always suits everyone. But choice is a wonderful thing.
How sad is it that we have lost our manufacturing industry as its cheaper to manufacture elsewhere or that 'management' sold out the brand such as MG Mini etc somehow we cant seem to do what other countries management have both the vision and investment capital but that is another story. The world is becoming a smaller place . It's no different really than the cars or motorhomes being imported here from other countries.
Nice to have but currently not a need to have not even when we change of 5 year old still good leisure ones... bit like the rush to Lithium batteries
Jim have you seen this. Rural discount?Just saw this on f/b don’t if it been mentioned
