Last time in Spain toll booths were being removed.
Now I hear, because of a EU directive, Tolls are being reintroduced on motorways.
What is the truth?
Anyone been driving there most recently who can say what is actually happening??
Thanks in anticipation.

However I tried the test payment would not go through using the bank’s IBAN number so I paid that invoice with another card. The app says my badge is Active so I only hope it works when I try it in Spain in a couple of weeks.
I had the same trouble the first time I tried and did the same as you and thought it was fine but it didn't work. Have you added another payment bank now? It may have been nothing to do with that and it may have just been our tag was just faulty, so hopefully yours will be fine. I returned ours when we got home and when we decided to give it another go starting from scratch.

It won’t let me add another bank but my other bank is Santander and if I read the above posts correctly they don’t allow foreign DDs.
If it doesn’t work at the first toll I’ll just use credit cards at the tolls.

Yes it is quite easy to just tap your card to pay. I wasnt going to bother in end but decided to give it another go. I opened a euro account with our bank HSBC in the end and just transfer the money over to pay invoice when need to.

Maybe that is it. Our HSBC account is Sterling.

La Jonquera to Beziers, is the A9 a toll road and if so is it worth paying the toll.

It certainly is toll Andy, ie, Peage, and one I chose not to use. I did use it last year coming down, but only the section which by-passed Perpignan.

Are you heading back now, and did you both enjoy your holiday?

Cheers,

Jock. :)

Hi Jock
We are heading back Friday afternoon. Hoping to stop at La Jonquera.
We've had a great time, but found Bonterra/ Benicassim a bit quite over Christmas, and new year.
We arrived on the 18th December and don't think we come next year until early January.
Thanks for your reply..

Yes, we did Benicassim once over Christmas and New Year, but personally prefer to stay at home , then come down in January.
Even at other times, we found Benicassim to be quiet after 16.00hrs, hence coming to Benidorm where you can dine out then go on to a late show if you wish. 👍

Glad to see that you enjoyed your first winter jolly to Spain. 👍

Cheers,

Jock. :)

Have now spoken with Halifax and they agree with everyone else, they cannot set up a dd for a foreign company
Revolut can, and does for me with my Bip&Go account.

The N11/D900 between La Jonquera and Perpignan is a bit slow and tedious and probably worth the toll to avoid the "shoppers"
I've used it several times, and never struggled to keep to the 80Kph speed limit, out of the built up areas.

Cheers,

Jock. :)

Hi Jock

Thanks for your knowledgeable input. Can you advise of stop overs between Clermont ferrand and Calais. Our last night will be in Montreal sur mer. Need a couple of options in between.

Hi Andy.

Just off the A75 before Clermont Ferrand is an decent overnighter at Issiore, with dump and refresh facilities.

Next up the road, (all non toll/routes) is Pouilly Sur Loire, (overnight parking only along near the Campsite), or Briare Canal with a Borne, or Giene by the Loire (not used ourselves yet as a Fair had occupied it when we passed).
Next up is Nonancourt (N154), through the village and left down to the Fire Station, then right at the hedges. Facilities are usually turned off. Next for us is Auchan Boulogne Saint Martin, ie, safe overnight parking, Autogas, cheaper diesel, and Hypermarket for last minute shopping, and easy access to the A16 for Calais.

All of the above are on S4S, and are free. (y)

P.S. Not done Montreuil sur mer ourselves yet.

HTH. :)

Thanks Jock.
You can't beat recommendations, from a seasond traveler.
This has been our longest away from home.
At times it's seemed to long and we have missed friends and family. But now as we head home, there is a tinge of sadness that it will be almost a year before we are back in the Spanish sun.
Thanks again Jock, your help and reassurance has been most welcome.

We are over nightingale at La Jonquera.
And it's freezing 🥶
It's a pity you didn't arrive earlier Andy, as there is a really nice Italian Restaurant upstairs in the Shopping Mall.

Security will be seen driving round the MHs every half hour or so. 👍 The Local Rozzers also frequent when out cruising. ;)

Cheers,

Jock. :)

Red Roads are toll roads.
Not all of the toll roads have toll booths.

You are expected to pay using one of the electronic tag systems.
After discussion on this forum we bought the Fulli tag.

€10 to buy, in arrives in the post, and then they charge you once a month for the tolls used on your card.
It helps if you have a Euro account (Starling, Revolut, Monzo, Wise etc)

The Fulli Tag works in France, Spain and Portugal, and for an extra fee will work in Italy as well.

Not sure if Anyone has mentioned this, but that map is out of date.

There is no Toll from French Border, through Barcelona along the AP7 to Alicante at the moment. It is TOLL Free

Interested in getting one of these cards but our motorhome is 3 03m tall that's .03 over limit.
Has any experienced this as a problem with over height passing through toll booths please
