Last time in Spain toll booths were being removed.
Now I hear, because of a EU directive, Tolls are being reintroduced on motorways.
What is the truth?
Anyone been driving there most recently who can say what is actually happening??
Thanks in anticipation.

Just filled in the application form. They asked for bank details at the end.

Or was it something else you needed to know?

Same. Used IBAN number for my Natwest Sterling account and as mentioned above it works as a direct debit. However, royandsharont you are clearly hamstrung if your Santander account won't take foreign DD's.

It works that they draw €1 to check that the DD is working, and thereafter the €1 is taken off your first bill.

Not had any problems.

Sterling is currently one of the best,
Unfortunately Starling haven't been offering a Euro Account for about a year now, and my conversations with their customer service operatives, indicate that they are not likely to return anytime either. :(

I have tried a couple of ‘dummy’ purchases for a Fulli Tag and there appears to be two options to pay:
Via a bank account using a direct debit
Or
An AMEX card

Having researched online it looks like Halifax Bank accept dd’s from foreign companies and this would suit me perfectly as I use my Halifax account in conjunction with my Clarity credit card whenever I travel.

I will call them tomorrow to confirm.

Just get a revolut card and use the euro iban number as direct debit payment, just pre load when exchange rate is good
If you order the Christmas offer you get 8 months free fixed rates, mind it’s only €1.90 in France or €2.40 in Spain/italy

Forgot to add its great for passing those people that speed past you only to fumble on with coins or cards at the tolls when you go through at 30 kmh lol

Yes,love it especially when we trundle along on the inside lane after the 30 kph gate whilst the speedsters queue to repass us. Small pleasures 😀

Unless you regularly receive Euros (e.g. you have an EU rental property), using a Starling Sterling account for Euro payments is cheaper.

Thanks Brains there are the monthly charges to add, as above, when actually used. I’ll wait to hear back from them re using a card rather than DD.

Yes my account with Santander is very old and no longer available and I can guarantee I do not pay any currency conversion charges, hidden or otherwise, I pay the international bank rate on the day and have done for donkeys years 😊
I have the same santander card I was advised not cancel it as the account was no longer available.

It's all I use in europe

Quite a bit of confusion between Portugal and Spain here....
Changes in the Spanish toll system will in time happen...but the current motorway network is predominantly free..just a few chargeable routes.
Year 2024 we must have travelled somewhere near 20,000km on Spanish roads both locally and nationally...if I added up the total paid on Toll roads I would expect change from a 10€ note...they are a rarity and can be avoided without too much effort.

Autopistas...AP...Pay motorways.
Autovias A....Free dual carriageway

Some AP are now free but maintain their original numbering to avoid confusion. There are quite often fast free Autovias that run parallel to Autopistas...
The old tourist trap autopistas that starts on the French border can be used all the way to Portugal without incurring a substantial toll free..

We live 15 minutes North of La Zenia boulevard, if we use the AP7, but there are 2 toll booths. Drive North and we can get to Valencia along the A7/AP7 without a toll booth in sight.

Just looking to buy now and Fulli offering free for the standard and just €4.90 for the with Italy version. But like getting the Crit discs, for the low cost it could save load of hassle if needed. We have only touched a couple of toll roads in our fifteen years travelling in Europe but have a much shorter break this winter so we’ll most likely use tolls to get where want quicker. Shawn.

We are going down to Zaragoza and beyond very early February.

1) Get a toll tag? Wonder if it will arrive in time?

2) Hoof it and pay at booths?

We will have a motorcycle trailer on the back. Does that complicate things?

Fulli or emovis?

So many questions🙄
Trailer makes no difference we are still only charged class 2 with a car trailer on the back😊
We pay via our Revolut card in €👍

It might influence peoples decisions to know that France have started rolling-out tollbooth free (flux-libre) autoroutes. There are bits and pieces dotted about already but Sanef have opened the A13 as the first fully automated route from Paris to Caen. Payment is by tag or on their web site; either in advance by registering a vehicle and payment details or within 72hrs afterwards. They also accept payment at Tabacs in the Nirio group apparently. There are several different autoroute operators in France but my Ulys (Vinci) tag works throughout.

Given the minal cost of €10, if you are going to France, Spain or Portugal I'd recommend you get a Fulli tag
Even if you don't intend on using the toll roads.

It's just peace of mind, and if you end up on a toll road, which as they are always the main signed route to anywhere, is very easy to do, it does not matter, you will only be changed a small amount if you come off at the next exit.

As mentioned above, in Portugal we found zero warning that our route was tolled, no booth, no tickets, we were simply charged a few cents every time we passed an exit from the road.
The fully tag in France is for max 3500 kg

This is very true but they don't weigh you. They measure your height automatically and up to 3m is Class 2. The Federation Français de Camping Caristes (FFCC) have negotiated a deal with the autoroutes so that, with a special tag that they issue to their members, bona-fide higher motor homes can also pass as Class 2.

The Fulli tag doesn't cover class 3 though does it?
Most of the usual tags are class two only, you can get class 3 but that’s usually for hgv or whatever abbreviations they use these days

Fulli have issued a tag to my 3,850 kg MoHo.
They have the vehicle details.

My model of MoHo is plated at 3500kg when sold in the EU and 3850kg when sold in the UK

I suspect it's a bit like the Austrian Vignette, my MoHo looks the same as the next one, so unless you are driving a tag axle 8m+ A class MoHo, the authorities are not looking to to have commercial tags on a vehicle that obviously is a not a commercial vehicle.

Have now spoken with Halifax and they agree with everyone else, they cannot set up a dd for a foreign company

.... and yet thousands of UK residents have them .......

Mine is set up using my Starling (a UK bank) Euro account.
I'm sure any other Euro account would allow you to get a Fulli Tag.
Many UK banks offer Euro accounts including Halifax

(Unfortunately new Starling Euro bank accounts are not being opened at the moment, but according to their website will restart 'soon')

We have an Emovis tag that covers France. Emovis sent an email a couple of months ago saying the tag would be updated to cover the new tollbooth free sections and they would send further email to make this change. Having received nothing further, I’ll give them a call on Monday about this, but wonder meanwhile if anyone has had their Emovis tag updated?

I think the best way forward for any toll system would be ANPR with the ability to register one card that covers all motorways throughout EU. Simply and likely to be government system which may be better than lots of different companies with different tags coveting different places.

One day perhaps 😜

Interesting to see Halifax bank will not do EU direct debits either.

When Fulli get back to me re what/if credit cards can be registered for subscriptions I will update this thread too

The bill will include a fine for non-payment within the specified time. It’s cheaper, and easier, just to get a toll tag.
It's cheaper and easier to just not use the toll road lol.

In 7 years and over 60000miles throughout europe I think I've used toll roads less than 10 times in total.

Spain is a country where its particularly easy to avoid them and still enjoy a pleasant drive.

Have you ticked every box that needs ticking. ? That Fulli application site is not easy at all I had to go back up and check the answers a few times before it would let me move on.
