Sell me your PVC...!!!!!!

Not sure how that would help with closing the sliding door
Most people don't know how to shut a sliding door. If correctly set up all it needs is a gentle movement forward and a gently movement inwards. Most people try to achieve the inward movement by slamming the door forwards as hard as they can but it is not necessary.

I was thinking more of the 'weight' as they can be heavy, both opening and closing (I know I just said closing), not everyone is able to do it especially if they have weak arms which is why I used to struggle sometimes with ours which had a soft close on it.

There’s a company in Bristol that can install a mechanism for self opening / closing the sliding door........problem is prices start at about £1800!

I have attached a grab handle to the inside of the door approx 2/3rds from the front edge of door. This makes it easy to pull the door shut from the inside and at a cost of approx £3, quite a saving over the self closing option. :giggle:

Me too, even though we had the soft-close option, it made pulling the door closed easier.

If a sliding door is an issue there are some pvc manufacturers who have the narrow caravan style doors as an option. One of my favourite things of the pvc is the sliding door but it is not to everyone’s taste.

After two years of trying and narrowing down we finally bought a Vantage Neo, pre-owned, 5 years old. It has everything we wanted. Full facilities, 3 burner hob and oven, longitudinal bed, 2 swivel chairs, two table positions so you can leave the bed up. Lots of storage and most of all, it's really light, so you never feel confined. The bed takes about 2 minutes to set up with Vantage's system. There are lots of little things that are good about it, but also the customer service is ace. If you want another shelf here, or a pocket there - just ask.

I love our sliding door, especially when I’ve managed to park really nose up so that the shower drains well. I can then slam it really hard lots of times late at night to really annoy people. I particularly hope it annoys the people who moan about PVCs and their whoosh bangs or whatever derogatory term it is they use! Obviously I do on purpose because PVC owners are all deaf so wouldn’t be disturbed bah humbug....

The Vantage Neo is lovely, we nearly bought one first time round and the deciding factor between our first IH630RD and the Vantage Neo was the fact that in those days Scott Nayler owned it and didn’t do trade ins. It was that close. He’s now gone out on his own again as Consort but they only come in white.

:thanks4:

Thanks for all your reply`s/suggestions and photo`s...

Much appreciated... :drinks::hugs:

I think we have decided which route to go down, and hope there is one out there next month when we will really look into it.. And make our choice..

The ones we like most are the single/double bed down by the rear doors, just decidingAdria which one, what size and what make chassis & engine...

We shall opt for a new/nearly new one year old or ex demo one Would even favour an Auto.. (No sheds.. :giggler:.)

So any dealers out there, give me a shout.. (y)

Sounds great is that all on 3500Kgs and what sort of payload have you ? Please

It weighs 3175kg, with me, 3/4 tank of fuel, bedding, pots pans, 2 bottles gas etc, but no water, chairs tables clothes
I saved 20kgs just swapping the battery to lithium
call it 300kgs of payload would be about right

We’ve just downsized from 7.5 m A class, twin beds over large garage. Front lounge/ dinette/ travel seats our least favourite feature. We were looking specifically for 6.4 m automatic PVC. Not wanting a front dinette ruled out all the continentals. Wasn’t over keen on having the kitchen blocking half of the slide door, but was prepared to compromise on that. We seriously considered an AT Vline 635 for the twin sofas/beds, but small fridge.
Then found the Wildax Consellation 3xl. Front lounge. 1 long settee. 2 cab swivels, and 3rd seat (which is clear of the slide door) which creates the 2nd sofa/bed when required. No fixed table (2 removable) gives a really spacious lounge feeling. The kitchen is huge (6’ worktop) full cooker, microwave, loads of storage. Tall 3 way FF. Floor to ceiling double fronted wardrobe. Easy access through the side or rear. Underfloor gas tank. I won’t have an interior space full of clobber, it all goes away!
Pro’s? All the above. Con’s? The single seat into bed isn’t the simplest, but there is no bedmaking, we use Duvalays.
Also, after the A class, which was magnificent, this is like driving a racing snake!

RP Motorhomes 7M Sprinter.

super high roof means elevated rear loung which turns into large double bed and loads of under bed storage. Likely will leave the bed made up in summer months as we can use the swivel seats at the front if we want to eat/lounge inside.

200 litres water and 140 grey waste (heated)
Grey waste filtered to use for toilet flushing to save water
diesel heating
400ah lithium
automatic....super smooth
reversing camera
water filter for drinking
electric sliding side door
half leather for cab chairs (prefer just fabric for comfort)
gas cooker
external gas abs shower points
plugs in garage to charge ebikes
under slung storage of spare toilet casset
3kw inverter
B2B charger
solar panel
no front dinette

all to our spec means with care we can stay off grid with no services for 4 days...if we can find water then indefinitely.

of this lot the lithium and b2b charger have been a game changer for power.

much prefer this to our previous A class as width means we can get a lot of places we couldn’t before - space is compromised but not to the extent it bothers us. Would be a squeeze if there were 4 of us but perfect for 2 without the dinette.

Mind me asking how? Self tappers? Sounds a good idea, we love our van... ‘whooshbang’

Personally, if I were going for a Fiat or VW Crafter type van then I would go with Celtic Motorhomes and get exactly what I want, fantastic quality and workmanship but pretty full order book I understand. Go to their website and then Facebook page, some fantastic vans and layouts. Much, much better quality that the majority of volume producers IMO.

Colinyellowspan,i see you mention duvalays, which nobody else seems to mention when they talk about making up beds,we bought two when we had motorhomes, and ive saved them for when we buy again, i think they are great,it takes one minute to roll them down a bench seat, and turn it into a comfy bed,(we prefer single beds for night time visits to loo)i would recomend them to anyone who has to make up single beds in a motorhome ...... very comfy and you dont get hot .cheerspampam

I converted the van myself and added a block of wood inside the door panel so that I could then use that as a fixing point. I have heard of others who have just used a self tapper and that seemed to work okay.

forgot to mention a Maxfan....must have a Maxfan. Makes a huge difference as an extractor fan and made a massive difference to us sleeping in hot climes. Silent running, draws air through...great extractor fan when cooking inside. Can be set to automatically go on when the van hits a temperature and ensures you do not come back to an oven!

of all the kit....a must have for us!

If you are able , could you post a photo of it? It sounds like a a great idea!

Budget is also an important consideration.

We were working to a far smaller budget than the cost of these smaller manufacturers vans. I doubt if this type of van will ever be in our price range. (y)

Just to recap what I think Mo is after PVC-wise (correct me if I'm wrong Mo):

Age: up to a couple of years old max
Timescale: available soon (ie no ordering a new one or waiting for bespoke build so they can use it this summer)
Lounge/sleeping: twin long sofas or ability to make up twin singles (not a transverse/longitudinal double or fixed bed)
Washroom: toilet and shower (assume the latter won't be used daily so no need to be separate/large)
Kitchen: no doubt Judy will want a bit of worktop space to be able to deal with all of Mo's gourmet meal demands plus a mahooooosive fridge for Mo's beer and Judy's wine!

Just what I am after as well. Singles or double will do me.

Options I would like are awning, tow bar (for bikes) and solar panel/s.
