As you know we have bought an Auto Sleeper Warwick xl.
We bought the xl as its got to bench sofas which can be left as 2 singles but more importantly it has a separate shower so no wet toilet roll 👍
3 burner hob
3 way fridge etc etc.

The only downside is passing each other inside is tight.
When will you be travelling down to Dorset as we may meet you on services for a coffee and you could have a nosy.
This would be our go to, if I sold my Rapido.
I love the layout.....very tempting 😊

We downsized last year to an Autocruise Rhythmn. Love it . Much easier getting round country lanes , can now keep her on the drive so save on storage. Under 3500 so no more medicals . Will be cheaper on the ferry when we eventually get to go. Ok, there is a compromise on storage but then you just take less rubbish. We had a Van star swing away bike carrier fitted which takes 2 electric bikes and 2 lounger chairs. Videos road pro show how it works. Means back doors can be opened with no restriction. Good luck with your search !

Globecar Globescout 6m, 150hp Ducato base, with pop-top. Fixed transverse bed is big enough for me ( 6'3'') and Russell's mum. Last van was a lwb high top T5. We couldn't be bothered making bed up every night and wanted more space so one of us could lie-in and the other could get up, so we got the Globie. A big part being I fitted in the bed whereas other brands weren't so big for some reason. The pop-top wasn't something we had considered but when we saw the van we knew it was the one for us and we realised the pop-top had it's uses.
The Globescout is perfect for 2 and if it's really warm outside, or we have a guest then we have a king-size bed on the roof. Great storage under the fixed bed.
3 way fridge, decent shower, good insulation, happy with the build quality.
We have fitted a Fiamma awning, 120w solar and extra leisure battery (although with the 3 way fridge the batteries don't get hammered as they did with the compressor in the T5), 2x11kg Gas-it bottles.
Downsides- we had to uprate as 3500kg was really not giving enough payload, what with the weight if the roof and the Maxi chassis, especially as a bike rack and bikes are still to be added. They captains chairs are comfy, the dinette bench seat not so much.
Given the choice we would have gone for diesel Truma.
We had 6 weeks on the trot in the van last year in France, Italy and Germany with temperatures between 35c France and -10c (Alps) and the only thing we could have done with was a bit more floor space when we were getting washed and dressed.
Van is kept on the driveway.
Really happy with it.

Hello old-mo, I strongly recommend to commission one yourself with help from a experienced van builder, or someone capable for the hole project. We have done ours with a bit of research and a fair budged for a balanced return. If you like to see ours, have a look at this thread:

Even with a big van, getting the trots for 6 weeks is not going to be fun

Thanks for all your reply`s/suggestions and photo`s...

Much appreciated... :drinks::hugs:

I think we have decided which route to go down, and hope there is one out there next month when we will really look into it.. And make our choice..

The ones we like most are the single/double bed down by the rear doors, just deciding which one, what size and what make chassis & engine...

We shall opt for a new/nearly new one year old or ex demo one Would even favour an Auto.. (No sheds.. :giggler:.)

So any dealers out there, give me a shout.. (y)

Warwick Duo! I have a nearly new one. It’s a bit nice!!

Can I ask why folks prefer the rear fixed bed over the large bench seats in the rear lounge ? The rear lounge offers flexibility in terms of single/ double bed in minutes or a nice lounging area.

I am open minded but wife is adamant that a rear lounge is a priority.

Rear "U" shaped lounge would do me fine ... As long as there are the equivalent of 2 singles down the side and a bit more seating in the middle would work well.. (y)

My wife was adamant we had a fixed bed with storage underneath. ;)

I‘m happy with that layout, along with two extra travelling seats for Grandkids.(y)

While making up a bed for two of three nights is ok. Two or three weeks it becomes irksome.
It also give you lots of storage and the option to carry bikes etc inside with sime designs
The captains seats are also much more comfortable to us than bench ones.

Hi and welcome to the fun house. 🤪

It really depends on what you want and how you intend to use it. For us not having a fixed rear and drop down bed would be a no-no, we do long term holidaying usually, 60-70 days abroad (well in 'normal' times we do!) and take a fair bit of stuff with us so need the storage that a fixed bed/garage offers us. If you don't mind making up a bed and don't need the large storage then a converting lounge might suit more.

Sorry no. Its the first Carthago on ebay if you select distance. As you enter Esh Winning it's on the forecourt of the old filling station to the right, can't miss it. The owner lives opposite. There's a mercedes van conversion on his drive.

Our Wildax Europa has that configuration. With this layout in a pvc though the singles will be a bit on the narrow side. With ours the seat backrest across the back of the van simply drops into place between the bench seats to make a huge double.
The other consideration is the firmness of the seats, okay for sitting on, but can be a bit hard for sleeping, so a fixed bed with a proper mattress may be preferred, but that comes at a cost of lounge seating by only leaving room for a dinette layout.

We wouldn't consider any van without fixed beds. More storage, one can retire while the other stays up and as said captains seats are the most comfortable in the house.
Having to make beds up would be like going back to our ancient caravan days complete with arguments when one person wants to go to bed eairler, even our final caravan had a fixed bed.

In my working days, many nights were spent in hotel rooms which rarely provided any sort of comfortable chair...

I've perfected the art of "lounging" on my bed... a skill carried forward to my fixed bed motorhome.
Plus I don't use the large table in the dinette, so that is also an effective lounge.

Horses for courses.

Making & unmaking a bed everyday, finding somewhere to stow the bedding, no thank you.

Lounge area beds. Where do you store the loungers, hoses, electric cable, outside table, bucket, small tool box, wind break, etc? Where do you store duvets and or sleeping bags when not in use and of course your litter picker?

Store under the beds, for the first part of your list and hopefully in cab over head locker for duvet etc.. (y)

In ours we store all the bedding in the overcab storage area which in an IH is large and also has a door so looks tidy. We have a U shaped lounge so as you can see from the photos I posted earlier the boot is big, we can fit a Quest pop up, table, 2 lounge chairs, 2 chairs to sit at table to eat, all cables, silver screen, Moroccan mat, ramps, airer, bike stuff, buckets,a big plastic box with lid filled with loo stuff, silicon spray, hose etc, tool box, plus of course plenty of cider for Nick!

Oh yes we have a cadac too and a windbreak.

I know you're keen to get a camper pretty soon Mo but please take your time and think how you will manage in one, it's not the same as a MH, will you be okay with the heavier sliding door and narrower living space, some conversions are better than others on this front depending on layout etc. We've suggested the rear lounge for ease of bed making but would you for example prefer one where the lounge is at the front so you can sit with the sliding door wide open? The downside of this is that the door side bed base etc would need to be made up each night but again some are easier than others. There are lots of variants on the front lounge type, some with full width washroom at the rear, others with larger kitchens etc, so make sure you perfuse the 'whole market' when it comes to finding the one that will best suit you and make living in and with it comfortable.

I know you like to make the decisions on stuff like this but please ensure that Judy is 100% happy as she's the one who's likely to be doing a lot more stuff in it whilst you are slobbing out and dreaming of chasing Daisy around a field! :giggle:

He’ll just sell it Mel and buy another one, you know what he’s like!

True but mattress toppers cut to size then covered with material and placed on the seat bases can be left in situ all the time so it would only be a sheet and duvet that needed to be plonked on for night time, we used to have oversized cushions which we could just put a cover on at night rather than have to tote pillows around too which saves having to find storage space for them.

I know ... 'loads-a-money' Mo!
