Sell me your PVC...!!!!!!

PVC's Way to go Mo (y)

MY RV is sold

I've owned most every type of van there is, from 36ft RVs to sub 6m A class Germans with lots of British vans in between.

Family constraints have dictated I've never owned the van I've always wanted. A small PVC. Much nearer to camping and really suited to our love of touring and exploring in both the city and countryside.

Siân always said as soon as it just 'me and her'. (ie no kids) touring I could have my wish. Hopefully get it in a couple of weeks after I get Eddie to swap out some of the good bits from the RV. :D
You kept that quiet!

So what are you getting?

Hi, Mo,
When you move down to Weymouth you and Judy are welcome to come over the border to Somerset and have a look at our wildax constalation, also we have several dealer within a few miles, (southwest Motorhomes, Somerset Motorhomes, chelston Motorhomes.) that you could look at for the different layouts

I love my PVC (fixed bed) and when it’s just me and the dog it is everything I would wish for. However, when away with friends the lounging/dining area is too small and not particularly comfortable. If I was in the position to be able to afford to change it I would be looking for a bench seat up front rather than a dinette. Autosleeper I think.
Circumstances have changed over the 7 years I have had mine and I no longer need the option of an occasional bed up front or the extra seatbelts.

We had an Autosleeper Duetto for years and loved it but when we retired and went away for longer found it too small, especially in the UK, you only get to find out about a pvc when you have been stuck in it for hours because of rain. Before you pick a van think about how you will use it, I would say the biggest choice is between easy driving and parking and space inside the van.

I’ve just had a thought, you’d probably be happy to leave the U-shaped lounge as 2 singles in the IH630RD. I tend to forget you can do that but we’re still young at heart so always make the double bed up!

I have scoured the usual advertisers.... and must say.... nothing jumps out at me... :frowny:

Must say.......... I think 4 belted seats including driver and front passenger is a waste of space for us..

Would sooner have two long single bench seats that could be used for/as single beds, without all the faffing around making up beds with infills..

Perhaps... what I would like is not out there.... :frowny:

Hi Mo, You've see the Beast a couple of times (Hymercar Grand canyon) beast.jpg and it suits us fine,. If I was ordering again, I wouldn't go for the Pop top option though it is handy if grandson wants to come with us and the 4x4 is a bit of an overkill but it's good to know its there when you need it. We love it but it wouldn't suit everyone, all I need now is a chance to get away in it.

That's what I think would be best for you too Mo, the last thing you want if you have a rest to have to mess about making up a bed of some sorts whereas a couple of long single sofa where you can just flop out on will be much, much easier, there are a lot of campers like this and it also means that if Judy wants to do something else (and get away from your snoring during the day!) she can sit in a swivelled front seat. Consider something like the East Neuk offerings too with the slide out washrooms as they help to keep the length down so that Judy will be happy to drive you around like Lord Muck! :giggle:

Hi John.... Missed you.... :hugs:

Had a solid pop top years ago and found it cold at night...

So would give them a miss...

Hope to catch you some time... :drinks:

Autotrail V-Line 540 SE 130 bhp Comfortmatic. It's not for sale ;) There is a first impressions review somewhere in the Autotrail section of MHF.

For one person great, I think two would definitely prefer a 6m length, which would also allow 2 single end beds rather than the transverse double (which I end up lying diagonal as at 6' side to side is a tight wedge). I have no problem with the rear lounge having to be made up as bed each evening, and often (being lazy) will leave bed made up if I'm staying put for a day or two, although that needs me to be organised and grab stuff from under bench seats. Much prefer the bigger lounge, kitchen and wc space (which is still small - and perhaps the most awkward part of any PVC), than having the forward dinette seat layout I see on some continental type PVCs. Can still swivel the front passenger seat during the day. Towbar allows carrying the bike.

Achilles heel was definitely the electrics. Pants 75AH leisure battery. Vanbitz emptied my wallet sorting that. Storage is also limited with nowhere for your folding type chairs, and even overhead lockers small - would do away with the microwave for an additional cupboard. People often complain of Autotrail build quality but I've had no significant issues, although there is now a safety recall on the 3-way fridge compartmentation. with the base Ducato van being more problematic with a brake and steering recall.

There will be variations on this layout from most of the main and smaller UK converters.

Yes your right Mo, we only have the roof up if its really warm, the van still has a normal inside height with the top down. My main dislike is with the top down there are no skylights plus if you want to lounge its the bed as it is a front dinette layout.

Depends how much you want to spend really Mo, just had a quick shuftie on Autotrader:

These are a few photos from inside ours. The boots big and a Quest 4 awning fits up under the passenger side bed.

The bathroom does have a dropdown sink and a shower curtain with a trigger shower, our only complaint really. We both shower every day but are not large people so manage fine.

Both front seats swivel so that gives a second seating area on a nice day.

Riverbankannie has the same van and they use theirs as two singles.

We bought from new so you normally get a big sink plus drainer instead of the small sink plus worktop.
It’s our second and I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if in a weak moment we get talked into another if Nick fancies a full Automatic!

A story is no good without photo`s... :giggler:

Nice one Jim... (y)

I just cannot see me/us sitting around getting old with not having some form of gettaway transport...

So once bolt hole is sold we will seriously look at getting A PVC..

Hopefully get one with single made up bed`s and room for her ladyship...

If you read this eddievanbitz what you got... Or could recommend...?

Or any other reputable sellers in "Motorhomefun" ...(y)
No you’ve got it wrong Mo, I‘m not selling Jim a PVC, just fitting a A-Frame to one so he can tow his dinky toy behind his RV

You asked for the good and the bad, we've had both and only kept the coachbuilt for 6 months as did not like it, and please accept my bias in my comments.

The bad (say compared to a coachbuilt): - Obviously less internal space, often a smaller fridge (usually the freezer is the part that gets sacrificied), less storage.
The good: - Much easier to drive and park especially to remoter spots (don't underestimate how the width of a coachbuilt hampers access), far less noise and creaking from the body and fittings when driving, less issues over time with potential leaking/damp body work, much more open and airy for summer (although some say they prefer the small doors on coachbuilts to keep heat in), more usable from campsites for day trips due to smaller size, generally cooler looking.

Nick Whale have some second hand IHs , I know we had a nightmare buying from them in 2015 but they may have improved. They were new to motorhome sales then and are massive now. It was when IH very briefly sold through dealers.

I love our Globecar Campscout (same as Lorger’s Pössl Roadcruiser).

Love best: made up beds, as ex-caravanners this was a must have, huge storage under fixed bed, central bathroom effectively creating 2 rooms, easy to drive even when I end up in centre of Paris, unexpectedly, raised fridge so no bending.
What I’d change - well more lounge space would be nice, also 600 length rather than 640cm.

To be honest, motorhoming is s compromise and I’m tempted to go bigger (Cathargo C line) or smaller (VW Transporter conversion). I suspect this is the optimum solution for us.

we only had PVCs for quite a few years, but it was always a compromise on the space/fittings. Our decision to go to larger vans was mainly due to the dogs. 2 or 3 medium size dogs and 2 adults is a very tight squeeze. The size of Daisy would be a similar concern

Had our old Autosleeper Symbol over four years now,,second one we have bought.Suits us down to the ground.5.2 metres long, excellent kitchen, small but adequate toilet/shower,,comfortable single/double bed.We carry everything we need in rear storage boxes with bikes and reclining chairs on top of boxes.Even carry a spare cassette. Lounge comfy on the odd wet days we have to stay inside. Love it.BUSBY.

What was wrong with the one you had?

What was wrong with the one you had?

Unfortunately it was toooo old and more to the point all the months of sitting around because of Covid it developed a nasty leak.. Which I had not noticed and I could do nothing about..

So .... hopefully a panel van will put paid to damp problems... :pray2::happy:

As you know we have bought an Auto Sleeper Warwick xl.
We bought the xl as its got to bench sofas which can be left as 2 singles but more importantly it has a separate shower so no wet toilet roll 👍
3 burner hob
3 way fridge etc etc.

The only downside is passing each other inside is tight.
When will you be travelling down to Dorset as we may meet you on services for a coffee and you could have a nosy.

That`s as may be.... But if you could see what I have crammed in the van.. :Eeek:

Would never of fitted in M-home...
OK in that case you can have my IH 630 RL for £60k. Go on you know you want to. Its a steal at that price....
