Change of plan today, did intend to overnight at Thurso at a site we found in the c&cc book, when we arrived reception was locked up and no one about so went to look at the pitches. Grass pitches with EHU but the ground was rather wet and the site looked a bit run down.:( Quick look at the map and found a pub with small caravan site, the Halladale Inn, Melvich just 14 miles away, rang them up and bagged the last pitch.:) Just had a decent meal in there and a couple of pints and now relaxing in the motorhome with a nice glass of red wine.:wine:

not sure if you have been over the north west Scotland before, but the best part of your trip is about to begin (y)

hot chocolate and truffles at the craft village and Smoo cave are a must at Durness, (lots of steps at Smoo cave) option to park at top on way in to save a walk back from camp site, then same on way out drive to craft village save your legs the other direction (y)

@Carol love your travel and photo thread you have seen some wonderful places and I've noted them for future trips ! Thankyou to you and Eddie! Hope it's warmer in Wales!

Even the trip now back in Wales sounds really eventful.. thinking of you both today and hoping Eddie being spoiled.;)

Absolutely stunning that's the only way to describe the drive along the North Coast from Melvich to Durness today, who wants to go abroad when there is hardly a cloud in the sky and temperature is 24deg.(y)
Will try and post some photos tomorrow when we move on as we have no ehu and my laptop battery is duff.
Lovely site and location only thing against it is that the ehu pitches are to tight, you could pass a glass of wine down a row of motorhomes without getting out of your seat, no 6 metre rule here.
Moving on to Kinlochbervie tomorrow for a couple of days to visit an old work colleague.:)

We've landed in the Orkneys. Bottomed out on the ferry, knackered towing electrics, and water tank not at all well.
It's nice here

A nice wilding spot.

But we decided to give it a miss this year. Looks like the 500 is going to make it quite Buisy.

We had come off the Isle of Skye yesterday. Spent 4 days wilding. No issues and some beautiful places. It's still hot today. Stopped overnight on the side of Loch maree and just stopped in Gairloch harbour for a coffee. Internet has been really poor and it's just seems to be bt up here can't get a 3g signal.we are heading towards daveandsan but not sure if we are filling the same route..below is a picture of the harbour at Gairloch

watch out for ticks up here if you have a dog-had to take ours to the vet yesterday -picked up 2 on her face -cant get them off with a tick puller as they are too close too the dogs eyes so had to have a dose of antitick medication. takes 24 hrs and the ticks are just supposed to die and fall off.

Here's a link to our first outer hebredise trip . The weather was fantastic . No midges and lovely sunshine . Only problem was, we didn't take summer clothes, just fleeces walking trousers and the odd T shirt for layers ! Our second visit last year in our new PVC wasn't as sunny but mostly dry , and totally midge free again. We must be very lucky. Scotland's a favourite of ours. Especially the islands.

If you click on one picture then go through the arrows ( at the top) you get to see the album. Unfortunately it starts at the end of the trip , not the beginning. I didn't realise you had to post pics back to front then, to keep them in order.
